The autumn winds and rain chilled the heart. After blowing out the oil lamp, Ding Ning took off his outer robe and sat down cross-legged on his own bed. he took out the surprise gift from Song Shenshu. He poured out that white little pill which looked like the eye of a dead fish from that copper-colored crude porcelain bottle.
As he looked at this pill in the darkness, Zhangsun Qianxue’s voice sounded from behind the cloth curtain. “This is the energy gathering pill that realm three cultivators will use when trying to reach realm four. Do not tell me you want to absorb this pill right now?”
Because it was a question regarding cultivation, Ding Ning responded seriously, “Other people may not be able, but my method is unlike theirs, I can manage it.”
Zhangsun Qianxue did not say more. She knew that tonight was important to Ding Ning, so she closed her eyes and laid there without cultivating.
Ding Ning did not say anymore. He swallowed the white pill in his hand, crushed the porcelain bottle, and then closed his eyes.
A wave of pungent medicinal power started from his throat and quickly spread through his entire body. That white pill, which looked like an ordinary eye of a dead fish, quickly disappeared in his body. The terrifying medicinal power seemed to turn into an enormous white fish inside of him.
The white fish, much larger than his body, started to move freely through his body.
His meridians quickly swelled and then split. His flesh could not tolerate such a great amount of medicinal energy. His flesh started to split and wither. If he was any other cultivator, he would die in the next moment, exploding into bloody pieces. Yet at this time, the sound of silkworms sounded in the darkness.
The sound increased, but it was not the sound of silkworms chewing on mulberry leaves, but a hissing as though they were spitting silk.
Weak bright lights started to shine off Ding Ning’s body.
Countless unseen silkworms climbed onto his body and seemed to spin silk.
Threads of silk invisible to the naked eye formed on his body. Each thread seemed to be made from the vital energy realm of a cultivator realm three or above. They seemed to be made from liquid and contained great power. Each thread had many colors that mixed together which looked like vital energies of different colors being strung up together. The multicolored silk hung across Ding Ning’s body and gradually formed an enormous cocoon.
The inside of Ding Ning’s body was silent. Even his body seemed to have cooled.
Near dawn, the weak cries of the silkworms came out of the enormous cocoon once again. The strange cocoon threads suddenly snapped into pieces, and disappeared into invisible primal energies in the world.
Ding Ning opened his eyes and woke up.
A deathly presence that even the strongest of cultivators could not detect spilled out of his body and flowed through the air.
The insects deep within the ground who had far stronger perceptions than humans felt the energies. They seemed to fear misfortune would come to them and ran for their lives away from this small courtyard.
Ding Ning slowly sat up. He felt the powerful flow of energy through his body like rain was seeping into his bones. He knew this had been as he had thought. Song Shenshu’s surprise gift caused him to directly rise from realm three third class to second class,
“A pill that can increase the success rate of a realm three first class cultivator having a breakthrough could only heal some of your wounds, and got you from realm two third class to realm two second class. Don’t you feel it is a waste?”
Zhangsun Qianxue had woken up already. At this time, she was brushing her hair at the table beside the bed. She did not look at Ding Ning and spoke with her usual coldness.
She looked stunningly beautiful as she sat there brushing her hair. The faint light of the rising sun penetrated the window and caused Ding Ning to fall into a daze.
Zhangsun Qianxue’s brow raised slightly and her face turned cold.
Ding Ning coughed and said, “It is alright to waste some. The rule in cultivation is, if you can obtain it, do not wait. Also, I know many things. It’s a matter of whether I can obtain it, and use it.”
“If you can obtain it, do not wait …… …… this makes sense.”
Zhangsun Qianxue continued to brush her hair as she said seriously.
Hearing her rare praise, Ding Ning felt that she would be more polite. However, he helplessly heard Zhangsun Qianxue say coldly, “Do not lazy about in bed, open the store.”
While there was an entire wall of matters and people to remember, all Ding Ning could do was cultivate and wait in a place like Changling where several of realm five cultivators or those stronger could die in a night
He had to open the shop when necessary.
The drizzling rain finally stopped after six days. No one important from the Divinity Bureau came into the wine shop and Ding Ning knew that case file on him most likely had been burned in the fire basin. The most dangerous moment should have passed. For a long time into the future, the Divinity Bureau officials, with noses keener than dogs, would not waste any effort on him.
A burst of autumn rain, a burst of cold.
While the weather remained bright for days, the cold increased. White frost finally appeared on the black roofs in the morning.
But the roads were dry. The number of carriages increased, and the wine shop’s business grew even better.
On another morning, Ding Ning, who had changed into a new thin jacket, was holding the porcelain bowl he usually ate from. He drank the remainder of the noodle soup as he looked at a nearby pond.
Some yellowed parasol leaves were floating on the water.
Ding Ning dazedly thought, the water in the water prison must have turned icy as well.
But how could he enter that deepest cell in the water prison?
He had so many thoughts, like the yellow leaves falling off the tree, but he did not have any mature plans.
At this time, a private advisor dressed in yellow robes slowly walked through the alley.
This advisor looked over forty years old. He had a short beard, his face was clear, a rectangular face and a friendly smile. While he held an account ledger, he wore fashionable wide-sleeved brocade robes of yellow embroidered with flying fishes. He gave off an ethereal aura.
This yellow-robed advisor looked at his feet to avoid stepping in filth. He walked until he was in front of Ding Ning, and then smiled at Ding Ning who examined him head to toe. He bowed and said, “Is this young proprietor Ding?”
Ding Ning put down his empty bowl and returned the greeting. He said curiously, “My surname is Ding, Mister is?”
“My surname is Xu, my name is Nian.”
The yellow-robed advisor smiled, and pointed at the wine shop behind Ding Ning. He said harmoniously, “I come today to ask for rent.”
Ding Ning stilled slightly. “Rent?”
“The peace rent to be paid once a month,” the yellow-robed advisor explained with a smile.
Ding Ning frowned and said suspiciously, “Did you remember it wrong? I already paid this month.”
The yellow-robed advisor smiled and said, “No, however, it was Two Level Tower who received the rent before. Starting today, it will be Jinlintang.
Ding Ning’s eyes widened in shock. He examined the yellow-robed advisor closely once again.
The yellow-robed advisor looked patient as he let Ding Ning examine him with a smile.
Ding Ning thought and then asked, “If you are telling the truth, why do you not go to other shops, when you come here, why do you come directly to mine?”
The yellow-robed advisor smiled. “Who doesn’t know that Young Proprietor’s shop has the best business in Falling Parasol. It is early right now, in another hour, the shop should be filled with guests. It is our rule to come to Young Proprietor’s shop first, you will be a good beginning.”
“The logic seems right.” Ding Ning rubbed his face and smiled slightly. “But I think that Mister should come and receive rent in a few more days?”
The yellow-robed advisor looked curiously at him. “Why?”
Ding Ning said seriously, “If a person in business can delay payment, delay as long as possible. Also, Mister may be a fraud who is trying to take advantage of my youth. If Mister’s leg isn’t broken in a few more days and you come again, it will mean Mister isn’t a fraud. Then I should not give the rent to Old Ji of Two Level Tower, but to you.”
The yellow-robed advisor laughed.
While Ding Ning refused him, he was very happy and laughed sincerely.
Looking at Ding Ning, who appeared serious and clear-eyed, he couldn’t help but reach to pat Ding Ning’s shoulder. “Young Proprietor is correct, I will come for rent in a few days. I lack a student right now, how about you follow me?”
Ding Ning raised an eyebrow. “What benefit is there?”
“Even if you cannot become a cultivator, at least you will learn a skill. It will be more interesting than looking after the shop and selling wine,” the yellow-robed advisor said seriously.
“Cultivation” was a matter of the highest importance in the Qin Dynasty.
Ding Ning picked up his bowl and turned to return to the shop, throwing back a, “I’m going to wash the bowl.”
The yellow-robed advisor stilled slightly and then understood. The other felt that he would wait multiple days before paying rent, anything else would be a waste of words at this time.
He felt the youth was even more interesting and had extraordinary scope of knowledge. His eyes became even brighter.
“Even Two Level Tower’s business is being stolen, what happened now …… …… who is behind this Jinlintang, even an advisor out to receive rent is a realm two cultivator. The people who should come haven’t come, the people and mattes that should not come instead.”
But this yellow-robed advisor did not know that Ding Ning, who walked into the wine shop, was unusually angry.
Volume 6 15 - Close the Mountain
“In the past, gentlemen ruled the world with righteousness and benevolence, and their actions were governed by reasons. You Qin people stole the country, Zheng Xiu had two husbands, do you care about your reputations?”
“What are you saying!” Zhao Ce raised his eyebrows, and said coolly.
Furious curses rose from among the Qin army.
Zhao Ce’s lips curled slightly showing mockery, but he did not deign to look at the Qin soldiers.
“I say all this to you, not because of others, but because it concerns the Ba Mountain Sword Field, and the promise between Wang Jingmeng and your master.” The ghostly cultivator who looked like a strategist did not change. He said quietly, “Some things, no matter if you believe or not, exist.”
Zhao Ce looked at him and said, “Who are you?”
This cultivator nodded in greeting and said, “Shi Changluo, but many people are used to calling me the ghost teacher.”
Zhao Ce stilled and solemnly nodded in response. “So you are the Ghost Sword who betrayed the Ba Mountain Sword Field in the past. I never thought that after you left Ba Mountain Sword Field, you really learned the methods of ghosts and darkness.”
Their talk was very flat, but even during this battle, there were sharp inhales and gasps within and without the crowd.
The Ba Mountain Sword Field’s meaning to the Qin people did not have to be described. Even though many records regarding the Ba Mountain Sword Field had been burned after Yuanwu’s ascension, but for the army, especially for the cultivators, many things and people could not be erased.
During the most glorious decades of the Ba Mountain Sword Field, there had only been one traitor, that was Shi Changluo. Supposedly, his sword essence was unpredictable, so he was called the Ghost Sword. Supposedly, he became a traitor of the Ba Mountain Sword Field because he wanted to kill Wang Jingmeng. In the rumors, his talent was very close to Wang Jingmeng’s. Because he was so jealous of Wang Jingmeng’s talent, he feared that Wang Jingmeng would overtake him, so he wanted to assassinate him. After his failure, he threw himself off a cliff, and fortunately survived.
When someone of the legends appeared, they would frequently carry the presence of an era, and even the air seemed to turn heavy. But Shi Changluo had a cool expression as he said, “There is no method that is the strongest in the world, just use the one most useful.”
Such a cool attitude caused Zhao Ce to look very solemn. He felt like he was being stared at by a fierce beast. He looked at Shi Changluo and said seriously, “In the rumors, you were jealous of Wang Jingmeng, failed to assassinate him and so betrayed the Ba Mountain Sword Field. But you are not a narrow minded person.”
“Without life or death, how do you know who is stronger,.” Shi Changluo’s voice suddenly grew dark. “If I lost to him, I naturally have nothing to say. If I had killed him, it would prove that he was not as strong as me.”
Zhao Ce frowned and said, “So you are a fanatic of the sword.”
Shi Changluo looked at this grandmaster of the Zhao Sword Furnace, and suddenly had many complicated emotions. But after an instant, his mind grew unwavering, and undisturbed.
“Why not kill Yuanwu?” Zhao Ce could not help but ask.
Many Qin soldiers changed their expression.
“I did not die at the Ba Mountain Sword Field, but I was very seriously wounded, and my progression was slow. If we were both realm eight, maybe I would have tried,” Shi Changluo calmly responded.
Everybody could hear his meaning. He thought that he could not keep up with Yuanwu. Otherwise, if only he and Yuanwu were equal in the world, then he would go fight Yuanwu and see who was stronger.
Zhao Ce was silent for a while. He took a deep breath and looked into Shi Changluo’s eyes. He asked solemnly, “In the past, Wang Jingmeng and my master really promised a battle?”
Shi Changluo said coldly, “One sword to cut through the Mirror Lake Moon and burn the Sulfur Pool Water. You must know of these two things.”
The Mirror Lake was in the Wuzhou of the Zhao lands. Back then, the Qin had been invading the Zhao, and they were attacking Wuzhou. Wang Jingmeng saw the Mirror Lake, and used one slash. The water did not ripple, but the clear reflection of the moon in the water split in two and did not come back together.
In the Quan City of the Zhao, there was a hot spring called the Sulfur Pool. The water was yellow and hot, dozens of hectares in radius. That grandmaster of the Zhao Sword Furnace had used his sword that day on the Sulfur Pool, drying up the pool, and even causing the spring to stop flowing.
These two incidents had occurred so long ago, but represented the peak of the cultivation world in terms of swordsmanship and cultivation at this time. Just like Yuanwu using one blow to flatten a mountain at the Deer Mountain Conference, this was fated to pass down in the cultivation world.
Especially the Zhao grandmaster drying the Sulfur Pool with one blow. In the many stories that came after, this was said to be him being discontent with the emperor of the Zhao so he had done such a thing. Not long after, the Emperor of the Zhao set up a trap and killed him.
These were all past matters, and it was hard to explain the twists and turnings. But today, Shi Changluo and Zhao Ce met, and there was the chance of sorting this out. Especially to Zhao Ce, these things were more important than his own life and death.
“So you mean, my master burned up the Sulfur Pool in response to Wang Jingmeng’s sword?” he looked at Shi Changluo and slowly asked.
Shi Changluo sneered. “The time between the two incidents is about the time needed for the news to reach your Zhao Sword Furnace. You should understand your master better than me, but with his personality, would he have been so bored that he would use a sword like that to intimidate the Zhao emperor?”
Zhao Ce was silent for a breath and then bowed. He said, “I would like to hear more.”
“It is very simple.”
Shi Changluo said, “In the past, the city that your Zhao Sword Furnace was in was just an ordinary city for the Qin army to destroy along the way. But no one had expected that there was a Zhao Sword Furnace there, such a grand master, and many powerful cultivators like you. Your master killed a Qin troop the first time. For the Ba Mountain Sword Field at that time, even if they sent many cultivators and armies to destroy your city, even if they killed your master, if the experts like you escaped, you would be more trouble. So Wang Jingmeng wanted to use battle as a bet. If he won against your master, the Zhao Sword Furnace would retreat out of the city, and the Qin army would keep the city, but the people of the Zhao Sword Furnace would not be able to interfere in the war between the Qin and Zhao.
After a pause, Shi Changluo said with slight scorn, “That was the best way. If it were me, I would have done what he did.”
Zhao Ce asked, “What does that have to do with these two incidents?”
“Wang Jingmeng and I are different. He might have felt that a battle without life and death was better, so he used his sword first. Had your master learned of this and knew that he was not strong enough, there would have been no need for the battle. But your master used his sword to answer him.” Shi Changluo looked down.
A complicated look appeared in Zhao Ce’s eyes. He started to speak but he was very slow, “So my master felt that he and Wang Jingmeng were well matched. Otherwise, with his personality, if Wang Jingmeng’s sword was much weaker than his, he would not have answered. If Wang Jingmeng was much better than him, he naturally would not have answered.”
Shi Changluo coolly said, “You finally understand.”
Inside and outside the city, many soldiers and cultivators were in great shock.
So the strongest person of the Qin Dynasty and the grand master of the Zhao Dynasty had been well matched. They even agreed to a battle, but before they could fight, the Zhao grandmaster had died in the conspiracy of the Zhao Dynasty.
Translator Ramblings: I don’t see how splitting a reflection is a sign of power but that is still a cool visual.
Also, I mistranslated Zhao Ce as Zhao Cuo previously. Hopefully, they are all fixed now.
Volume 2 15 - Sword Seal Path
This chapter has been brought to you by me, and larkspur.
The sun was as red as blood.
Ding Ning watched as the Xie Family departed.
The figures of the member of the Xie family gradually grew smaller on the distant road, finally becoming black dots like evening twilight.
Ding Ning’s expression grew more grave.
The Chen Family was one of the wealthiest in Guanzhong. Today, they had exposed their status as Chu, and even a rare realm seven grandmaster like Chen Chu had fallen here. Both Chen Tuntian’s death and the fight between Chen Chu and the Xie family cultivator had been extremely dire. But he also knew that this was just a silhouette of the great event that was the Deer Mountain Conference.
At this time, there were many grandmasters like Chen Chu, usually lofty and removed from the world, walking around. They were obstructing cultivators, food and armaments needed by armies in order to exert a minuscule effect on the Deer Mountain Conference.
In a storm like this, each person was as minuscule as the Xie family members that was disappearing into the twilight.
But in each of these silhouettes, many people performed spectacularly and respectably. These countless silhouettes were what created history, and the vast empire where people could live in peace. These people should not be erased from the history books.
Otherwise, this would be like what Zhangsun Qianxue said, .
The Zhou Family carriages had been repaired. Yet, seated in the carriage, Forefather Zhou did not give the order to depart until all the members of the Xie family were completely out of sight.
His expression grew colder as his lower body grew colder and started losing sensation.
Chen Chu wanted to attack his energy sea and kill him in one blow, even at the cost of his own lifebond item being damaged. But the other had not expected that he had left a false opening for Chen Chu.
A battle between two realm sevens had been determined so quickly and in such a peaceful manner. From all viewpoints, Forefather Zhou’s victory today was a textbook example of experience and intelligence.
But, Forefather Zhou had neglected one thing.
While he had perfectly used the defect in his body …… his body was not his original body.
He had accurately calculated Chen Chu’s power, and immediately frozen the energy that had charged into his energy sea. However, he had overlooked the fact that the energies in his body had long been out of balance, and were regulated by medicine over these years.
Ordinary cultivators, even cultivators that were much weaker than him, would have bodies that naturally adjusted themselves when their energies were imbalanced. It was just a matter of time, and there would be no damage.
But he was different. When that wild surge of energy entered his body, threads of energy had permeated his own energies causing uncontrollably changes. The medicines that had been carefully prepared and the medicinal power stored in his body could not regulate this kind of chaos. This was a great poison to his body.
His energy sea froze further. All the meridians below his abdomen were sealed.
At this time, he was unable to walk, or force his vital energy below his abdomen.
Originally, everything today had been within his grasp. Had Xie Lianying been killed, he could have easily controlled Xie Rou, and possibly slowly consumed the Xie Family in the near future.
But all this changed because of Ding Ning.
Thinking of Ding Ning’s performance in today’s battle, Forefather Zhou’s frosty visage turned vicious.
"Come here," he slowly said to Ding Ning and Fu Su.
Ding Ning, who had been watching the distant twilight, raised an eyebrow.
From Forefather Zhou’s slightly different tone, he knew that something was to happen next. Even so, he still calmly turned around and walked towards Forefather Zhou’s carriage.
Originally, Fu Su held no wariness towards Forefather Zhou, but when he walked next to Ding Ning and was about to stop, his pupils contracted upon sensing immense danger.
The kindness in his eyes turned into incomprehension and anxiety. His black hair floated up as though some power was about to surge out.
But he had no time to do anything.
A black flow of energy pushed aside the curtain and reached him.
His body froze. His blood and vital energy immediately froze, unable to flow.
In the next moment, his body was covered in thick black frost.
Next to him, Ding Ning looked the same.
Two other flows of energy shining with white light flowed out of the carriage and landed on Ding Ning and Fu Su.
The white flows of energy were gentle, but sent some exceptionally cold energy deep into Ding Ning and Fu Su.
In the two’s perception, black icy sand filled their energy seas and numerous channels in their bodies.
These black icy sands were like reefs that blocked shipping routes. Blood and energy could flow slowly to maintain vitality, but the flow of vital energy would be immediately shattered into powerless waves and bubbles.
"Why?"
After the black frost cracked and fell off, Fu Su found he could speak so he immediately asked in disbelief.
Forefather Zhou did not immediately answer his question. He only looked coldly through the curtain at Ding Ning.
Ding Ning slowly raised his head.
His body could move at this time, but any movement, and any part of his body was numb and under stabbing pain.
"There is no reason. From the start, I never thought to spare you."
Forefather Zhou let out a violent and vicious laught. Looking at Ding Ning, he started to answer Fu Su’s question.
"From when you helped your sect brothers comprehend cultivation method from the Zhou Family’s Painting Remnant Scroll in Ink Garden, your outcome was set."
Forefather Zhou paused and then said, "The Painting Remnant Scroll is the foundation for the Zhou Family in Changling. Its existence means numerous possibilities to the Zhou Family. How can some of the secrets, especially the way to condense fiendish energy, be allowed to spill out?"
While he was talking, Ding Ning had remained silent. Some invisible little silkworms had silently appeared within his body and started to consume the icy black sand in his body. There were very few little silkworms. Ding Ning was not in a hurry, only sensing the speed that the little silkworms devoured with.
At this time, Forefather Zhou’s face overlapped completely with the Forefather Zhou that he was familiar with. His emotions were not very affected, but the Fu Su next to him was furious.
The feeling of being lied to caused Fu Su’s body to tremble violently.
"Since you had this kind of thought long ago, why do you treat Ding Ning and I so? What do you want to use us to do?" He took a deep breath, gritted his teeth and said angrily, "If you have been pretending all this time, why do you not continue?"
"Because pretending is tiring," Forefather zhou said scornfully, "especially pretending in front of two juniors I can easily kill. The feeling is really uncomfortable."
Before now, Ding Ning had not made a sound. When he was finally certain about that the speed with which his little silkworms were consuming the icy black sand, he deigned to speak a cool voice. "It really is uncomfortable. In order to not arouse Xie Lianying’s suspicious, you even gave two important Chu weapons to us. The mere thought of it is disgusting."
Forefather Zhou’s eyes narrowed slightly. He said coldly, "You do not look very terrified."
Ding Ning stopped concealing the scorn he felt and sneered. "If you intended to kill us, you would have done it a long time ago. Why wait until now? You want to take us hundreds of miles to Deer Mountain, we naturally have value to you. You are unable to bear it now because you must not be as well off as you looked in that battle with Chen Chu. You fear you cannot control us."
Forefather Zhou’s eyes narrowed, his pupils contracting as he emanated unimaginable cold.
"Your judgement is good."
Forefather Zhou did not refute this and coldly said, "Just blame yourself for not listening to my orders and acting on your own. Otherwise, even if you die, you will not be in discomfort for so many days."
"What do you want to use us for?"
Fu Su did not show much fear, just anger.
"You will know when we reach Wu Mountain, I will not make you wait too long."
Forefather Zhou lowered his head, looked at his completely numb legs. His next words were brimming with ruthlessness. "From the start, I did not plan to take you to Deer Mountain, I will let you die in Wu Mountain."
Fu Su stilled, wanting to say something, but Ding Ning went in front of him and stopped him from talking.
"Get onto the carriage," Forefather Zhou said, coldly.
As he spoke, he was unaware a pure white shadow was drifting in the white clouds behind him opposite the twilight.
It was like a big fish with white scales, but it also had a pure white pair of wings. Two long barbels slowly floated through the air.
Perched atop this bizarre bird were two figures.
Translator Ramblings: I just realized Fu Su is acting in the role of the audience all this time.
Volume 5 15 - Looking Around At A Loss
For realm seven cultivators, all the battles happening around the prison were not far away.
All realm seven cultivators sensed Du Hongtan’s death.
Du Qingli’s breathing sped up. He shouted at Bai Shanshui through the layers of water. “Do not think you can all leave here ……”
“I know.”
Bai Shanshui’s calm voice interrupted his shout. “When the starfire seal is destroyed, some machines and seal weapons will replace its functions and many wards will be activated. But we still have half a tea worth of time …… do not forget, someone likely knows this prison better than you.”
Du Qingli stopped speaking. He felt inexplicable terror.
The dark red sword was filled with fiendish energy as it tore at the dark presence of the prison.
“Have you thought about the price you pay?”
Lin Zhujiu stood on the boiling water. The red light gathered on his face like an eerie and beautiful crimson mask.
Shen Xuan did not speak.
The shadow of an enormous sword appeared in the dark water underneath Lin Zhujiu.
A terrifying sword essence broke through the water as Shen Xuan reached out his hand and vented upwards.
Lin Zhujiu attacked.
A dark red and eerie sword light flashed. All the water below him disappeared. Shen Xuan’s body flew backwards along the passageway with a violent wind.
An arm was left in the air in front of Lin Zhujiu. This arm stayed in the air for a breath, then turned into a blood mist, and was inhaled into Lin Zhujiu’s sword.
“Just one arm as a sacrifice to my sword. This price is too little.”
Lin Zhujiu seemed dissatisfied even though he had cut off Shen Xuan’s arm, someone who countless people in Changling feared, with one blow.
He shook his head, and slashed his swords against the wall next to him. The thick iron walls were cut like paper. He passed through.
In the center of the cell next to him was a cultivator who was very young. He was Li Yunrui, who Shen Xuan was also helpless against.
Lin Zhujiu swung his sword and easily stabbed through everything in Li Yunrui’s body. He helped the other up with a hand, and then walked towards the third cell. He opened the wall again. Then the dark red sword dissipated back into his body in many streams.
He then helped Zhang Shiwu up and nodded to him who was so excited he could not speak. “Let’s go.”
When Shen Xuan’s sword energy shattered into a wind and blew through from the depths of the Great Floating Water Prison, it was time.
Bai Shanshui smiled faintly and said seriously to Du Qingli, “Even a student is like this. It is not unjust for the three dynasties to have lost to the Qin.” As she spoke, her body seemed to be blown by the wind like she was weightless and floated out.
Du Qingli did not attack. The resilient water bubbles his sword essence could not break through were still wrapped around Bai Shanshui.
The other key reason was Bai Shanshui’s words terrified him more. He also understood how terrifying that person had been. That person’s plans were always interlocking and never failed.
Bai Shanshui flew backwards out of the prison, the glowing layers of water refracted beautiful rainbows in the sunlight……
The leading Dongling commander had a different kind of emotion in his gaze yet he did not hesitate to shout his orders.
Sharp energies broke through the air. Sword lights and cold metal attacked Bai Shanshui’s water bubble.
Then waves of gasps sounded.
These swords, seal weapons and arrows did not penetrate the water bubbles, but sent it into the sky. Flashing with rainbows, the water bubble became transparent water beads in their sight, it started to rain.
Bai Shanshui’s voice was lost in the dense rain, and only faint rebellious and joyful song reached their ears. “My generation likes learning the sword, reside by the cold pool for a decade ……”
Many of Dongling Army’s swordsmen were cultivators who lost their target. They looked blankly at the splashes dropped on the commander in front of them, the ripples produced by their flying swords in the air, and quickly sank into silence.
While they were enemies, they had to admire Bai Shanshui’s heroism. In their minds, Changling had countless hot-blooded and heroic cultivators before.
Yet as those people disappeared, those heroic and hot-blooded cultivators seemed to have disappeared, or rather, did not stand on their side.
**
Mo Shoucheng’s body moved with the wind. His old body moved directly from one turret to another like a stone thrown from a catapult. He looked up at this time. There was still a distance to the Great Floating Water Prison. At least, he could not pose a threat to Bai Shanshui and the others.
Yet he could sense Bai Shanshui’s departure. He was a step late.
If he had been late last time because he did not know Bai Shanshui’s attack location, how could he have been late this time when the empress knew something like this would occur in the Great Floating Water Prison?
His brow furrowed deeply. He could notunderstand.
Even more confused than Mo Shoucheng was that black cavalry that had charged out from the old tombs in Eastern Changling. Dressed in black, both soldiers and horses, their black armor was covered in starry seal scripts, and even their masks had invisible vents.
The person and the horse were heavy, but the hooves did not touch the ground as they galloped. They were travelling on air. This meant that each soldier on horseback was a cultivator, and of some strength.
This was an army that seemed to have come out of hell. This army was undoubtedly the Qin Dynasty’s strongest army.
Ye this unstoppable army stopped as the leading commander raised his hand.
The commander lifted his head. He wore black armor but his mask was made from platinum so he appeared exceptionally cold and eerie. The criss-crossing double swords on his back gave off a cruel killing intent.
A disbelieving gasp came from the mist ahead on the mountain path. “General Bai?”
“Guo Dongshan?” The general let out an emotionless reply.
The loose-haired cultivator standing on the sword light flew out of the mist. He looked in disbelief at the general and the strongest Qin army able to kill him many times. “What is going on?”
**
An enormous army was moving like one in the wilderness. One half of the army was the Northern Tiger-Wolf Army Liang Lian had led, and the other half the Southern Tiger-Wolf Army General Xie Jiuyan led.
General Liang Lian had been killed in his camp. This was a great humiliation to all of the Qin armies, especially the Northern Tiger-Wolf Army. So the army was in a hurry. They wanted to reach Great Floating Water Prison as fast as possible and complete their ambush mission.
Yet when Guo Dongshan, who was supposed to be at Great Floating Water Prison, stopped the killing army, everyone in the Northern Tiger-Wolf Army showed fury and despair.
They saw a familiar scene, followed by bone-aching cold.
This was the end of summer and autumn was coming. What greeted them now was a snowstorm that once swept the Northern Tiger-Wolf Army.
A metal-like figure screamed. This general was Xie Jiuyan. He wore soft black leather armour and a long black cloak. As he forced his way through the snowstorm, his black armor and his cape were frozen stiff.
The general stomped his feet and the ice cracked and fell to the ground.
But when he looked around, Zhangsun Qianxue was long gone.
Volume 4 15 - Hope
Lin Zhujiu looked at the beef soup that was already very thick in the pot. After not having eaten his favourite food for so long, the pot of beef soul was a great temptation to him. But he knew the beef soup had not reached its most delicious moment, so he waited patiently.
“The Qin destroyed three dynasties. The Ba Mountain Sword Field was recognized as the strongest sect in the world. Everyone in the world thought that I was the advisor to those people of Ba Mountain Sword Field at the time, and that many strategies came from me.”
Lin Zhujiu smiled and said, “But actually, most strategies came from him.”
Zhao Si frowned deeply. She looked at Lin Zhujiu and honestly spoke what she had said, “You know that in the past, among the Qin the Sword Furnace wanted to kill the most, you were third. Everyone in the world knew that many of the Qin military’s tricks came from you. But you say that these tricks have nothing to do with you?”
“Because this itself is a strategy.” Lin Zhujiu looked up at her and said emotionally, “Back then, everyone knew Wang Jingmeng was the strongest sword of the Ba Mountain Sword Field. They all knew that no one was a match for him one on one. If they knew that he was not just the strongest in Changling, and he was the advisor to the entire Ba Mountain Sword Field, then all the enemies would have one thought- kill him at all costs.”
Zhao Si and Bai Shanshui exchanged glances. They could understand the meaning in Lin Zhujiu’s words but they still did not believe it. There were too many stories about Lin Zhujiu, and they had experienced many of those events.
“You mean that this is a scheme to share the danger?” Bai Shanshui could not help but look at Lin Zhujiu and ask.
“In the views of many people back then, an advisor who could expect all was more terrifying for war than a pure swordsman who was invincible.” Lin Zhujiu smiled. “Also, to everybody, I was a much easier kill than him so more people attempted assassinations on me and not him. Those that assassinated him did not know how to set up the situation, but to kill me, they only had to find the opportunity, and find two or three cultivators stronger than me. In a certain way, I was a cover to attract many assassins to die.”
Zhao Si thought of the grandmasters who had died to assassinate Lin Zhujiu and felt increasingly ironic and sad.
“Ba Mountain Sword Field is really terrifying.” Bai Shanshui laughed mockingly and said, “What does the steward mean?”
“It means property.” Lin Zhujiu said without any intention of evading, “I have a good memory. My mind is an account ledger. I know which people are of Ba Mountain Sword Field, I know where some of Ba Mountain Sword Field’s things are.”
Zhao Si and Bai Shanshui now understood completely and said together, “You mean, Ba Mountain Sword Field has many …… many things that Zheng Xiu and Yuanwu have not gotten control of?”
Lin Zhujiu could not help but laugh. “Swords and sword manuals are only things on the surface. Otherwise, why do you think that Zheng Xiu and Yuanwu did not bear to kill me after so many years?”
Zhao Si was even more confused.
Back then, Ba Mountain Sword Field had so many famous swords and sword manuals. In the decade, you created countless Changling experts. If a sect’s swords and sword manuals are not the most important, then what is the most important?
Lin Zhujiu knew she could not understand. He also knew that these people were trustworthy and there were not many like them.
The pot of beef soup had reached its most appropriate time. So he indicated for Zhang Shiwu to put out the fire. Then he filled a bowl of beef soup and slowly sipped.
“For example.” After tasting his long-awaited flavour, he groaned in pleasure. Then he said, “Zheng Xiu thinks the Chu Dynasty is hers now, but for Ba Mountain Sword Field, over a half is ours.”
Zhao Si and Bai Shanshui shook together. A wave immediately was created off the side of the boat, being crushed into fine powder by the pair’s presence, and then sprayed outwards onto the dark water like fine flour.
“After all this conspiring, one cannot win against one of their own.”
Lin Zhujiu looked at the reflection of the moon in the water. His proud expression disappeared without a trace. He sighed softly. “He did not die at the hands of so many strong enemies, but in the hands of his own. If he had not died, perhaps even the two remaining dynasties would be gone now.”
Zhao Si and Bai Shanshui were silent for a long time. They first pondered what Lin Zhujiu said about the Chu Dynasty.
Bai Shanshui took a deep breath and she managed to calm her emotions. She asked tentatively, “Demon Consort Zhao?”
Lin Zhujiu nodded.
Zhao Si said coldly, “How is that possible?”
Lin Zhujiu looked seriously at her and said, “Everyone has their own ways.”
Zhao Si wanted to argue, but when she thought of Zheng Xiu, she could not speak and wore an ugly expression.
Lin Zhujiu looked amusedly at her and said, “You probably would not have thought that Li Lingjun becoming the new Chu emperor, while related to Zheng Xiu’s arrangements, also is related to us because we did many things to smooth the way.”
Zhao Si had an urge to knock away the bowl of beef soup in front of Lin Zhujiu.
Fortunately, Lin Zhujiu spoke quickly after. “I used some of the property of Ba Mountain Sword Hoard so Lin Zhujiu grew quickly …… Anything that was sent maturing too quickly has some shortcomings. So, we successfully caused Li Lingjun to enter her sight and become her pawn. For us, we hoped that the Chu would not have too powerful a ruler.”
“So Zheng Xiu hopes to use Li Lingjun to control the Chu, while you feel that Li Lingjun will easily be controlled by you?” Bai Shanshui laughed with admiration. “This is that person’s strategy?”
“No.” Lin Zhujiu shook his head. “You do not understand Zheng Xiu enough. Zheng Xiu’s conduct will always have her end with cruelty and blood. She has Li Lingjun return because the Chu controlled by Li Lingjun will be easier to deal with in future wars. As to this plan ……”
After a pause, he laughed self-deprecatingly and said, “This is my idea. After he died, we had to do something. I only hope we did nothing wrong.”
Zhao Si could hear some other meaning and frowned deeply. “You do not know his heir, do not know his arrangements?”
“I am not the person closest to him. Even though we are brothers, we were not so close we could sleep under the same blanket, on the same pillow.”
Lin Zhujiu thought of that person’s last time. His smile grew bleaker than the moonlight on the water. “If I knew, then Zheng Xiu knew long ago. Back then, no one in Ba Mountain Sword Field thought he would have an heir. He was so strong yet he had not reached his peak. He was so invincible and young he did not have to rush to find an heir.”
Thinking of the outcome of this enemy once so hard to defeat, Zhao Si felt some dark pleasure. She looked up at the pure moon. She did not disguise her emotions and said, “Maybe none of you understand him well enough?”
Lin Zhujiu looked at her and did not speak. Zhao Si sensed something strange.
“When someone is about to die, they can see themselves and others the most clearly.” Lin Zhujiu finished the bowl of beef soup and said slowly, “He died in battle in Changling. Who did not understand him?”
Bai Shanshui said, “You are all sure he is dead?”
Lin Zhujiu said coolly, “He fought until the last drop of blood, until his body turned to dust. Nothing was left. How can he still be alive?”
Zhao Si thought of how numerous people had seen it and there were no doubts. So she thought and said, “You are all so smart, why did he fight to the death in Changling back then?”
“Because that battle of his really saved many people out of Changling.” Lin Zhujiu sneered and said, “Just like how Ba Mountain Sword Field burned itself up, there are many things you do not know about in the background.”
Volume 3 16 - Realm Seven’s Confidence and Amazement
“Flee!”
Ding Ning shouted one word because he only had time for one word.
As he said this, all the fiendish sword energy he had accumulated in his body shot out from his fingers. The black sword lights turned into a rain and were aimed at a spot next to Xie Lianyin.
His shout and the barrage of black sword lights were filled with decisiveness and irrevocableness. “Go!” Xie Lianying’s gaze flashed. He almost instinctively pulled Xie Rou next to him and darted backwards.
A soft sound.
A light blue light suddenly appeared among the barrage of black sword lights, and a silver flow appeared out of thin air.
Moving backwards, Xie Rou’s heart almost stopped beating. While it was a known fact that the seal weapons of the Chu Dynasty were the best in the world, she had never heard of this grey-robed cultivator’s attack that could come out of thin air.
A flow of silver first appeared clearly in the air, and then the grey shadow.
For this powerful cultivator from the Chu Dynasty, the little fiendish swords that Ding Ning had forced out of his body were almost nothing.
The grey figure turned sideways and his body, half flashing with silver light, stood like a large silver sword.
The black sword lights exploded on the silver light, forming black blossoms in the air.
Countless silver flowers also bloomed on the other side of the Chu Dynasty cultivator, however, he only felt slightly colder on one side of his body.
The disparity between realm three and seven was too great. He also had a seal weapon that was the product of countless Chu cultivators and craftsmen.
This Chu Dynasty cultivator was puzzled as to why Ding Ning could sense his location yet his gaze was still aloof. He only used his normal speed as he channeled his vital energy into the “Worryfree Horn”.
Yet again, murderousness surged in the air.
It was because the primal energies of the universe that the Worryfree Horn was this bright and multicolored. Even the murderousness felt so pleasant and bright that the people could easily forget their worries. It could easily make people slower in their reaction.
The Xie Family was the wealthiest in the Guanzhong, and none of their cultivators was mediocre. When this Chu Dynasty cultivator’s Worryfree Horn passed through the fragments of the fiendish swords and charged towards Xie Lianying who was in retreat, the two flying swords that were floating next to the old woman and the child finally made the correct reaction.
A great boom!
The small red sword was suddenly ablaze with a blinding flame. While the sword was small, the power it emanated felt like an enormous piece of magma erupting from a volcano. It then fell towards the Chu Dynasty cultivator.
The other small blue sword silently flew down and disappeared into the earth below Even its presence became the same as the soil.
This Chu Dynasty cultivator frowned slightly, but he did not change the target of the Worryfree Horn. With a muffled sound, the incoming little red sword was forced to a standstill by a powerful force. Unable to even dodge, the sword was pushed backwards. The flames coming off the sword’s seal scripts scattered and landed on the surrounding shrubs.
In an instant, the grasses dried up and burst into flames.
As to the whereabouts of the devious little blue sword, this Chu Dynasty cultivator was unconcerned. To him, in order to attack him, the blue sword would have to resurface sooner or later.
Once this small sword left the earth, he would be able to feel it, and respond in time. This was the absolute confidence a realm seven expert possessed.
The moment the little red sword was forced back, one of the Xie Family carriages shook violently. A muffled grunt sounded, and the carriage curtains rippled outwards with a burst of bloody foam.
To the Chu Dynasty cultivator’s surprise, the little blue sword that had entered the earth seemed to have vanished.
Because he had absolute confidence, this Chu Dynasty cultivator did not hesitate at all.
Two vast surges of primal energies of the universe came through his feet. Two visible balls of light appeared under his feet. In the next moment, his body flew forward and accelerated.
In less than a breath, the Worryfree Horn gave off sharp murderousness and targeted Xie Lianying and Xie Rou who were trying their best to retreat.
An old voice came from the carriage behind Xie Lianying and Xie Rou.
Seated in this carriage was a white-haired old scholar.
As he shouted lowly, his body seemed to be covered in countless holes that shot out countless blue rays of wind.
The hardwood carriage around him collapsed like a paper lantern and scattered outwards.
The blue wind rays twisted like they were alive, and shot towards this Chu Dynasty cultivator from all directions, as if the tails of a demon.
This Chu Dynasty cultivator showed no disdain and his figure did not change. However, his vital energy output strengthened.
The seven-colored energy from the Worryfree Horn in his hand grew stronger. It did not appear to touch Xie Lianying and Xie Rou’s body but both of them grunted and bled from the corners of their mouth.
The old scholar’s visage did not change. Along with the blue rays of wind he drifted weightlessly upwards, and came before Xie Lianying and Xie Rou.
The Chu cultivator’s gaze suddenly focused. He suddenly sensed an unusual presence in these blue rays of wind.
His body suddenly froze.
From the first time since his initial advance, his body paused.
The pause was only to emit more energy.
A mountain of primal energies once again gathered above his head, and flooded into the Silver Rakshasa Thumb Ring at an unimaginable speed.
The sticky energy flowing out of the Silver Rakshasa Thumb Ring, like mercury, immediately shrouded his body. Even his orifices were filled with silver energy. He became a person of silver.
Almost all the blue rays of wind collapsed when they hit his body, but one blue ray did not shatter, emitting a jewel-like light.
The Chu cultivator sneered in disdain.
This blue ray that had wrapped around his body and contracted violently, was quickly covered in cracks. It was possible to see clear crystal layers within the cracks.
Although the old scholar was still hovering in the air, his internal organs were vibrating violently. Red blood gathered along his chaotic energies and spurted out of his mouth and nose.
The unique and powerful presence of a lifebond item finally came from that crystal-like blue ray.
This had not been a ray condensed from primal energies of the universe, but his lifebond item.
The reason something was lifebond was because it had an inexplicable connection to a cultivator’s life. If a lifebond item was destroyed, the user would be seriously injured at best, and dead otherwise. But as this old scholar’s lifebond item was on the verge of being destroyed, he did not hesitate at all, and squeezed all the power he could contain within his body, out of his body.
The lifebond item in the form of the cracked blue ray persisted.
Determination in his eyes, a blue robed young swordsman in the last carriage, took a deep breath. His blue flying sword, that had hid for so long underground, finally, soundlessly re-emerged from the earth underneath the Chu cultivator’s feet.
The silver light on the Chu cultivator’s face dimmed slightly, and the yellow cloth he wore fell off due to the vibrations of energy.
Behind the yellow cloth was a thin and white, seemingly feminine, face.
A hint of disdain and pity flashed over his face.
“Other than that woman from an important Zhongshan family, the Xie Family is just so?”
Before he spoke, he had pulled back the Worryfree Horn in his hand, and let it slide down along his body.
The rainbow-like light landed on the blue crystal ray restraining his body. The blue ray shattered into countless pieces. The old scholar floating in the air fell to the ground and quietly died.
He took a step. The rainbow-like light continued to drop, sweeping under his feet and accurately hitting the blue flying sword that had just come out of the earth.
The seemingly soft contact was a collision between two mountains.
Boom!
The blue sword, less than a foot in length, ploughed a deep gully in the ground.
In the last carriage, the blue-robed young swordsman’s head fell dispiritedly. Countless blade-like wrinkles appeared on his young face, each wrinkle bleeding threads of bloods.
The Chu cultivator proudly raised his head.
In his view, no one in the Xie Family could stop him from killing Xie Lianying and Xie Rou, even that youth not far from them.
But at this moment, he sensed an impossible surge of primal energies of the universe.
He suddenly turned around, his eyes flashed with amazement and disbelief.
Translator Ramblings: If all these sword energies are lights, does this mean the attacks are the speed of light? So all cultivators move faster than light ……
Volume 4 16 - Assassin
Bai Shanshui and Zhao Si exchanged a look but did not speak. They both knew, just like what Zheng Xiu did tonight, many things would not stop once they started. Since Lin Zhujiu thought they were trustworthy and started to tell them some history, and things to notice when being enemies with Zheng Xiu and Yuanwu, he would not stop and just continue talking.
“Before Yuanwu’s ascension, he killed so many people and burned so many books, but not just to wipe out Wang Jingmeng’s existence. Many people know of Zheng Xiu’s cruelty, but still underestimate it.”
Lin Zhujiu sneered and continued like they imagined.
“One of the reasons he had to go to Changling was because of Yangshan Commandery. He was born in Yangshan Commandery. After the Changling reformation started, Zheng Xiu sent him a letter. The contents said if he did not go to Changling, she would order the army to massacre Yangshan Commandery, the thirteen cities of the commandery without sparing the children and women. In order to make him believe her determination, she massacred one city. The army that did so is the present God Killing Army.”
“That is Jiaowei City?” Zhao Si’s breathing started to stutter. “So it was not the Chu who massacred the city?”
“The God Killing Army killed that Chu Army which was forced to take on the blame.” Lin Zhujiu said disdainfully. “Even though he followed the agreement and went to Changling, dying in battle, she still gave Yangshan Commandery to Chu. Emperor of Chu received this benefit for nothing so he said nothing and let that Chu army take the blame.”
Bai Shanshui’s expression became uglier. “So the destruction of the Ba Mountain Sword Field was due to similar tactics?”
“That is not right.” Lin Zhujiu grew silent and said, “At the time, Ba Mountain had differences. It had nothing to do with the betrayal of a few people.”
“Yan Xinlan thought that his death was to end this matter. She decided to follow his last intentions, and did not want to damage this thing that we used so many times and sacrifices to make. Some of us did not want to fulfill that.”
“This is us making different choices, like some people in Changling now. Some people have decided to sacrifice the individual for the greater whole. They want to see an unprecedented dynasty be created, to conquer the world and stop war from occurring again. That is that person’s dream …… yet many people find it difficult.”
“We were a group of dragons without a head, and not as cruel as Zheng Xiu.” Lin Zhujiu said after a long silence, “He was not just the symbol of Ba Mountain Sword Field’s invincibility, even more importantly, he was the head of the dragon. No one had thought that we would lose him first …… In conclusion, the strongest Ba Mountain Sword Field went into chaos like this.”
“Actually, there was no chance. If there was a chance, I wanted to see him before his death and listen to his last wishes. His wishes towards the entire world and towards Zheng Xiu and Yuanwu. Should we hand over the world to Zheng Xiu and Yuanwu, and have them complete what we wanted to do, build an unprecedented dynasty, or something else?”
No one spoke.
Each person’s thoughts and conduct was different. Some people and matters may look very stupid in the views of others, but were still worthy of admiration. Even more importantly, Lin Zhujiu’s assumption could not hold. They could not go back to the time of that person’s death and appear at his side.
Maybe for that person, he had a difficult choice then, especially when he realized he could not control everything. He could not make choices for other people.
“These years, I have lived well in the Great Floating Water Prison. At least I could hear, but not do many things.” Lin Zhujiu’s voice broke the deathly silence. “So now, I am unable to decide what to do next. Since the Nine Death Silkworm was able to flawlessly plan and rescue me, I want to listen to his opinion and his ideas about the world.”
Lin Zhujiu looked up, his gaze scanning Bai Shanshui and the other. He slowly smiled. “You are all dragons who have crossed the river. To have you all gather here …… he is the head of the dragons.”
The river grew silent again.
Lin Zhujiu’s words contained too much information, too much of the past, the present, and the future matters. But thinking of that youth who had accomplished something incredible, Bai Shanshui and Zhao Si felt that Lin Zhujiu’s words were correct.
“There is something worth being thankful …… some people of the Ba Mountain Sword Field may not agree with my thoughts, just like back then. But they will have positive feelings towards the Nine Death Silkworm. At least, they will not be enemies,” Lin Zhujiu said softly with some emotion and contentment.
“But after today, we will be truly lonely ghosts to Changling.”
At this time, a gentle and quiet voice sounded on the broad water. A black boat, accompanied by black mist, appeared silently on the water not far from their small boat. A hunchbacked old man held a bamboo staff. A woman with a zither sat behind her and in the cabin was a young man.
“Young people recover quickly.” Lin Zhujiu looked at the young man and could not help smiling.
Bai Shanshui looked at him, and her face suddenly had a blush. But she was a great rebel with great spirit. So she smiled proudly and said, “Good you are not dead. My promises always count.”
Zhao Si glanced at her and inexplicably smiled and said, “Such a coincidence, today seems to be Double Sevens, seventh day of seventh month, the day where magpies meet.”
**
“Today is Qixi.”
Ye Celeng stood on the bridge and looked in the direction the pillar of light had disappeared. She heard footsteps behind her but did not turn around as she heard this familiar voice.
“If there is affection, there is affection, if there is none, there is none. Double sevens, double eights, double nines, what is the use? It is just believing one’s own lies,” she said coldly without looking back.
Dressed in deep red robes yet still giving off a sense of loneliness and a rotten presence, Bureau Chief Chen looked at her back and smiled inexplicably. “I am complete when I stand behind you and see you.”
Ye Celeng did not respond but she did not leave either, just looked up at the night sky from the bridge.
Bureau Chief Chen also did not speak. He looked silently at the night, a hundred feet away from her, but there seemed to be a faint smile on his pale lips.
**
“With the Nine Death Silkworm present, she and Yuanwu will not be happy. But if she and Yuanwu do not die, I will not be happy.”
After Ding Ning spoke, Zhangsun Qianxue’s voice did not sound. Just like their habit in Falling Parasol, this meant the two had finished their conversation.
Yet Ding Ning did not return to his bed, and walked towards Zhangsun Qianxue’s room in the darkness.
“What do you want to do?” Zhangsun Qianxue’s voice sounded with an unspeakable cold.
Ding Ning said, “Help me heal.”
A surge of murderousness appeared ahead of his hand that stretched out to push the door.
“Not because tonight is Double Sevens.” Ding Ning shook his head and whispered seriously, “Just to live.”
Zhangsun Qianxue stood outside the door. Her expression was calm but her eyelashes flickered. She suddenly felt evil inside and could not help but say, “Tell me what you think Yuanwu and Zheng Xiu are doing today?”
“Sharing the same bed with different dreams.” Ding Ning smiled faintly. “There are many who are doing the same. Why care about this adulterous couple.”
Not caring may be the attitude Zhangsun Qianxue needed. The lack of caring represented another kind of care.
Ding Ning pushed open the door with his hand and entered.
