  Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Ye Sui absently thought that how could someone knock at the door in the middle of the night? But the very next second, she suddenly woke up and instantly reacted, remembering Chen Shu sleepwalking again.

Ye Sui didn’t even wear shoes. She got out of bed, barefooted on the floor, opened the door, and walked out.

The living room was very dark, with no lights turned on. Ye Sui pressed the switch, and the place was illuminated with a click. The darkness dispersed, but the anxiousness that she felt was still there.

The closer Ye Sui approached Chen Shu’s room, the clearer the sound of knocking at the door. It also reminded her of his gloomy mood before.

Ye Sui looked at Chen Shu’s room.

As long as he pulled the doorknob, he could walk out in the next second. But Chen Shu did not do so. He just raised his hand and knocked at the door repeatedly and mechanically, one after another.

The depressing knocking sound rang in the quiet night from behind the closed door. Chen Shu’s weak and fragile voice also came along with it. “Open the door! Don’t shut me in!”

Chen Shu knocked on the door over and over again, accompanied by the same words. The world outside was only a few steps away from him, but he could not walk out.

He was closed in by that door and trapped in the shadow of his heart.

Ye Sui quickly walked past, took a deep breath, and pushed open the door carefully. The door opened, widening bit by bit as Ye Sui looked over.

Chen Shu was standing in the darkness, his outline blurred. The light in the living room poured inside and lit up a corner through the opening.

But Chen Shu seemed to be standing behind the lamp. His eyes were dull and still. His whole body was surrounded by darkness as if the light could not cast away his shadows.

Chen Shu was like a still statue in the dark and appeared somewhat lost. Obviously, Ye Sui was standing in front of him, but he was unaware of it, and his eyes were wandering.

Ye Sui suddenly felt her eyes pricked. She took a sniff, stepped forward, entered Chen Shu’s room, and walked into the darkness.

Chen Shu stopped knocking at the door, but he still mumbled, “Open the door. Don’t lock me in.”

When entering the door, Ye Sui felt the despair of Chen Shu. When she really heard this sentence up close, her heart was suddenly pulled apart.

She did not dare to imagine what Chen Shu had experienced.

Ye Sui suddenly remembered that when Chen Shu received a phone call from his mother, he was indifferent at that time. After he hung up the phone, though, he became more silent.

And tonight, Chen Shu sleepwalked again and showed his helplessness. Ye Sui couldn’t help wondering whether Chen Shu’s strangeness was perhaps related to his mother?

Ye Sui looked at Chen Shu. She stepped forward and looked into his eyes. The room was poorly-lit, but she didn’t turn on the lights at the moment. She was afraid the brightness would disturb him now.

Ye Sui didn’t know what to do. Despite raking her mind, she could only try to get Chen Shu back to normal. Hence, she called softly, “Chen Shu, it’s me, Ye Sui.”

In the silent darkness, the voice of Ye Sui sounded soft.

Chen Shu stood there stiffly, not responding. He seemed to hear a familiar voice, but it was very far away and soon dispersed.

When Ye Sui saw Chen Shu did not respond, she spoke again in a softer tone, “Chen Shu, it’s me, Ye Sui.”

Chen Shu’s hand moved slightly. He seemed to be a little sober but still immersed in his emotions.

Ye Sui was very patient. She called him over and over again. In the silent cold night, her voice clearly reached Chen Shu’s ear.

A seemingly ordinary sentence for him; however, was bright and radiant like the sun, shining bit by bit into his dark world.

“Chen Shu, it’s me, Ye Sui.”
