“Alright, Xiao Qin, that’s enough. You’ve said too much!”
“What do you mean I’ve said too much?! This type of person is only asking for a scolding! She doesn’t even properly look at herself in the mirror!”
Amid the two front desk clerks’ bickering, Pei Ge’s phone call finally got through.
She was already a bundle of nerves by the time the line finally connected.
This was her first—and probably her last—time calling this number.
“Hello.” Ji Ziming’s distinctive clear voice soon came through the receiver.
For some reason, she instantly calmed down when she heard this familiar voice.
“CEO Ji,” she called out. A few days ago, when she jumped off his car and slammed its door in his face, she thought that that would be the last time they would have any interaction with each other.
Who knew that she would contact him only after a short period of time, and that it would be her initiating the contact?
A bitter smile formed on her lips.
“Tsk! This woman is so shameless. She’s even pulling this old trick of pretending to be in a conversation with CEO Ji. Her skin is really so thick.”
These mocking words jostled her out of her thoughts, and she quickly regained her senses.
She swept a cold gaze across the rude receptionist and then directed her attention to the person on the other end of the line.
“Where are you? Why is there a woman’s voice?”
She was unsure if it was her hallucination, but she felt that the man’s voice seemed to be frostier than usual.
“I…… am at the lobby of your company.”
“At the lobby of my company?” he repeated, his voice tinging with surprise.
“Yes, Qitong told me that you are here, so I came over to look for you,” she affirmed.
“Then, why aren’t you coming up?” he snorted.
“I can’t because I don’t have an appointment with you,” she helplessly explained.
“So that woman just now was talking about you?” he suddenly popped this question that did not seem to make sense.
“Mhm, that’s right. She’s talking about me.” While she did not know why he had asked her this, she still answered him truthfully.
“Wait a moment; I’ll have someone bring you up.”
He then cut the call without waiting for her reply.
The busy tone from the phone instantly made her feel like laughing.
“Hur hur. Let me tell you; this move doesn’t work on me. We won’t let you in, so hurry up and get lost,” Xiao Qin shooed her away with much disdain.
Once the phone call ended, she gave the rude receptionist an icy look and demanded, “Apologize.”
Perhaps, because she had lots of pent-up frustrations and complex emotions, she did not have the patience to tolerate the woman.
“Huh? Apologize? You are not only ugly, but your brain is also wonky.” The rude receptionist gave her a ridiculing look as she continued to mock, “You want me to apologize to you? Do you think you are worth it? Hur hur……”
“I will repeat it once more; apologize, or don’t blame me for not giving you face,” she warned with cold eyes.
“Xiao Qin, just apologize to her,” the kind receptionist urged. She suddenly felt her heart clenching when she was met with Pei Ge’s cold eyes, which reminded her of the eyes of their company’s CEO Ji.
“Is this type of ugly woman deserving of my apology? I will apologize to anyone except her. She’s feeling too smug about—” A fair and smooth palm smacked her face before she could finish speaking.
The crisp sound stunned both receptionists.
“Since you won’t apologize, I’ll teach you proper manners on behalf of your parents. In the future, you’ll know what to say and not to say.” Pei Ge slowly retracted her hand as she shot the rude receptionist a frosty glare.
“Ahhh!” The front-desk clerk regained her senses then, and she screamed while covering her face with her hand.
“How dare you slap me?!” she screeched, rage burning in her eyes.
“Ah, I shouldn’t have slapped you. A person like you is undeserving of my hand,” she mimicked the rude receptionist’s words with a calm expression.
“You b*tch! How dare you speak to me like that?! I’ll beat you to death today!” the front-desk clerk screamed maniacally as she moved to rush toward her.
“Xiao Qin, it is still the working hours now! Don’t act rashly; don’t act rashly!”
The rude receptionist was about to rush out to Pei Ge from behind the front desk, but a stern voice suddenly echoed in the lobby, “What are you all doing?!”
“Ah! It’s Secretary Xu!”
The ruckus at the front desk was instantly extinguished following this new arrival’s voice.
Meanwhile, the rude receptionist stopped in her tracks and settled on giving Pei Ge the death glare.
“What kind of ruckus is going on here?” Xu Li narrowed her eyes at the two receptionists and sternly questioned.
Her imposing demeanor resembled a discipline mistress more than a secretary.
Furthermore, not only was her demeanor similar to that of a middle-school discipline mistress, her looks and fashion style resembled one, too.
She was donning an extremely conservative, black business suit – a black formal top was paired with a pair of black suit pants and black leather kitten heels.
Her hair was tied into a neat bun, and there was no stray strand in sight.
She also had a pair of rimless glasses on. Standing there with a poker expression on her fair face, she looked extremely square and stern.
“Secretary Xu, we apologize. We will take note of it in the future,” the kind receptionist quickly apologized with her head lowered, not voicing out any complaint.
As for the rude receptionist, she continued to speak indignantly, “Secretary Xu, we are not to blame for this.”
With that, she pointed to Pei Ge and bellowed, “It’s this woman who started the fight! She tried lying to us by claiming that she has an appointment with CEO Ji. After we saw through her lie, she struck us. I was so angry that I—”
Pei Ge gave the front-desk clerk, who was accusing her, an icy look and snorted. “I have finally seen with my eyes what it means to lie without blinking. Your skin is really so thick.”
“Secretary Xu, look; look! This woman doesn’t have an appointment but is still behaving so arrogantly.”
Xu Li, who had been reprimanding the two receptionists ever since she arrived, suddenly turned to face Pei Ge.
Just as the rude receptionist thought that the secretary had believed her words and was about to scold Pei Ge, something really unexpected happened.
“Are you Miss Pei Ge?”
