“Your father’s death shouldn’t be due to an accident but a meticulously planned murder, right?”
Qiao Jingyun looked at her with a queer smile on her lips and eyes.
Alas, Pei Ge found the gentle and affectionate smile in her eyes to be scary.
She felt as though an immobilizing amulet had been stamped on her by the woman as she could only blink her eyes and gape in shock at her.
“What? Pei Ge’s father is dead?”
“Should be. I didn’t see her father when she and Ji Ziming got engaged.”
“Didn’t someone hold her hand to the engagement podium initially? Wasn’t that her father?”
“It’s not. I heard that that’s her uncle, but they’re not close.”
“To think it’s like that!”
Pei Ge finally returned to herself when she heard the murmurs of those around her.
She sucked in a deep breath and stared at the woman with blazing eyes from inexplicable fury.
“Ge Ge, you should be able to answer this question, shouldn’t you?”
The latter acted as though she did not notice the fury in her eyes as she continue smiling at her…… radiantly.
“What kind of stupid question is—” Seeing that the atmosphere was going in the wrong direction and noting Pei Ge’s fury, Qin Qitong also felt her temper rise. She stood up and got ready to move toward Qiao Jingyun, seemingly intending to start a catfight with her.
However, just after she took a few steps, Pei Ge quickly pulled her hand.
“Sister Pei Ge……” She turned to look at the other with her lips pursed and eyes full of confusion.
The latter did not speak, though, and just kept staring at Qiao Jingyun. With a tug, she pulled the girl back to the sofa.
“Ah!” The girl exclaimed in shock but quickly saw Pei Ge standing up.
One step, two steps, three steps……
Her ineffable aura caused these rich socialites to halt their breathing and chattering.
She stopped in front of Qiao Jingyun.
Her carefully drawn features were expressionless as she stared down at the woman elegantly seated on the sofa. All sense of friendliness and cordiality disappeared from her face.
“Miss Qiao, you have gone overboard. My father isn’t someone a person like you can speak of as a joke.”
Her fists balled up as her eyes blazed and her tone became laced with fury.
“Of course, I know that the dead shouldn’t be used for jokes.”
The woman did not seem to care about her anger as she continued smiling at her widely. The only change was that, unlike before, her demeanor seemed more serious now.
“What do you mean?!”
This time, Pei Ge did not bother adding an honorific to her surname but opted to calling her by her full name, instead. It could be seen how furious she was at the moment.
“What I mean? I didn’t mean anything. I was just a little curious.”
The woman blinked her eyes as her pretty features displayed innocence.
“Curious—”
She was stopped mid-speech by the woman.
“I was curious of how it says on all newspapers that your father died from a car accident when he’s clearly murdered.”
The woman finally sat up straight with her hands propping her chin as she smiled at her.
However, for some reason, she found her voice to be filled with vicious intents.
“What do you want to say? Get straight to the point!”
Now—no, ever since she asked this question to her, the originally light-hearted game of truth or dare had come to an abrupt end.
Now, the atmosphere was charged with unprecedented tension.
Everyone placed their gazes on the two women involved.
“I already said everything I wanted to speak about. Your father…… truly is……”
Pei Ge pursed her lips together at Qiao Jingyun’s queer smile. Her eyebrows subconsciously knitted together as well.
–
Qiao Jingyun’s lips curled upward upon spotting her complex yet lost expression.
She got up off the sofa and smiled at the other before walking past her and out of the door.
It was only after the woman had left that she regained her senses.
“Ge Ge, are you okay?”
“Ge Ge, don’t listen to that woman’s nonsense. She must’ve said that on purpose. She must have a—”
Before Qin Qitong and Lily could finish speaking and reassuring her, she had already chased after the woman with an abnormal expression.
“Ge Ge!”
“Ge Ge!”
Her two friends tried chasing after her when she started running, but as they stood up and took a few steps, Ji Lelin stopped them.
“Alright, you two should stop contributing to the trouble. This is between them, so let them settle it once and for all. Don’t bother Pei Ge anymore. Do you guys think that she is a little white flower who needs the help of others?”
They hesitated at her words and subsequently nodded.
Amid the dark night scene, the loud and crisp clacking of high heels against the floor sounded in the dim corridor.
There were two distinct footsteps present: one was slow and elegant, while the other was frantic and hurried.
“Qiao Jingyun, stop right there!”
Pei Ge shouted when she spotted the woman ahead.
In front, the woman obediently halted her footsteps.
“What did you mean by those words moments ago?!”
