She had been in love with him for so many years, and Lin Nuan had always thought that he was beyond her reach. Yet, he confessed to loving her deeply when he went on the show. How could Lin Nuan not feel aggrieved?
If he did indeed love her deeply, why didn’t he say so earlier?
He knew how much Lin Nuan loved him and yet he broke her heart when he chose to be with Gu Hanyan.
Saying ‘I love you’ was supposed to be a warm and sweet way to confess to someone, but it didn’t have any effect on Lin Nuan at this moment. Instead, this only gave Lin Nuan mixed feelings and ignited all the grievances she had been burying deep down.
She felt sick, both physically and emotionally, and she didn’t wish to continue reading her messages. Her phone kept vibrating, and Lin Nuan decided to switch it off. She turned her head to the side and stared at the pouring rain outside the window.
Back when she was still in love with Wen Moshen, she had fantasized about him saying these three words to her. She imagined herself crying tears of joy, hugging him, and them living happily ever after.
But now, her love and passion for him had fizzled. Wen Moshen had married someone else, and Lin Nuan was married to Fu Huai’an. Wen Moshen couldn’t have chosen a more awkward moment in time to confess his love for her with these three words.
Now, Lin Nuan only felt hurt by the words, ‘I love you’.
Wen Moshen had claimed that Lin Nuan was engaged then and that the age gap between them was just too much.
Weren’t things the same now? There was still a huge age gap between them.
It was even more impossible for them to be together given the current circumstances, compared to before, when only Lin Nuan was engaged.
Lin Nuan tossed her phone into her bag. She rubbed her eyes and took out a piece of tissue to wipe her nose.
The flu became a perfectly good excuse for Lin Nuan to disguise her sorrow. She rolled down the windows a little more. As the rain and wind hit her face, she felt her blocked nose clearing up, and she could breathe more easily.
“I’m sorry, today was the first time I met your friends for a meal…” she muttered.
The silence was deafening, and Lin Nuan was trying to make small talk.
“It’s okay. You’re one of us, nobody minds! When you’re feeling better, we can have a meal together again… To connect better!”
Fu Huai’an didn’t seem to be bothered by the constant phone calls and messages from Lin Nuan’s ex-love. He even had a slight smile as he spoke.
When they reached home, Tuan Tuan was already asleep. Auntie Li had prepared supper and was waiting for Lin Nuan and Fu Huai’an to return.
It was still pouring. As Lin Nuan and Fu Huai’an stepped into the house, they could hear the rain becoming heavier.
Lin Nuan didn’t have an appetite for supper. She told Auntie Li that she was feeling sick from the flu and went upstairs to rest. Auntie Li was worried that Lin Nuan might have caught a cold, and she decided to prepare some ginger soup.
Fu Huai’an brought the ginger soup upstairs for Lin Nuan. He watched as she drank the soup and took her medicine. Then, he kissed Lin Nuan’s reddened eyes. “Turn in first, I have some work to do, so I’ll be back later…”
Lin Nuan nodded her head. “Okay…”
Fu Huai’an went to the study. Lin Nuan tossed and turned in bed, but she couldn’t fall asleep.
It was too uncomfortable… She got up to get a change of clothes and went into the bathroom to take a hot shower.
Lin Nuan felt much better after the shower.
She stood at the sink as she dried her hair with a hairdryer. She suddenly recalled what Fu Huai’an had said—Lin Nuan only needs to love me one-tenth of how much she loved Wen Moshen, and even my life will be hers…
She switched off the hairdryer and looked at herself in the mirror. Her heart was racing, and her eyes were teary.
She questioned herself: Lin Nuan, are you even deserving of this?
She couldn’t give Fu Huai’an anything…
Fu Huai’an had been expecting Lin Nuan to make the first move; he was waiting for Lin Nuan to love him in the same way she had loved Wen Moshen!
