Chapter 1147 - Spare a Thought for Yun Liuli
“En…” Gu Qingcheng replied.
“I won’t be disturbing you then!”
“I’m worried about having you go to the hospital by yourself!”
“Then you can get someone to send me to the hospital for my checkup. After I’m done there, they can send me to the amusement park. Is that alright?” Yun Liuli discussed the options with Gu Qingcheng.
Gu Qingcheng kept silent for a moment…
“Is that alright?” Yun Liuli tugged at Gu Qingcheng’s sleeve, her black and bright eyes appearing especially beautiful.
Gu Qingcheng gave in. “If I don’t come out after 20 minutes, I’ll get my assistant to go with you. You don’t have to worry about the things at the hospital. I’ll tell Bai Jinyu in advance and get him to take you to your checkup!”
Gu Qingcheng had been the one accompanying Yun Liuli for her checkups previously. In Gu Qingcheng’s heart, Yun Liuli was a dainty young lady, and he’d even feel nervous if she were to go for a CT scan.
Yun Liuli nodded.
Things went as Yun Liuli expected. The discussion between Fu Huai’an and Gu Qingcheng went on for more than 20 minutes.
After taking the last sip of the fruit juice the manager had brought for her, Yun Liuli wiped her mouth with a tissue. She was just about to tell the manager to help her arrange for someone to send her to the hospital when Gu Qingcheng’s assistant walked over.
“Miss Liuli, Mr. Gu told me to send you to the hospital for your checkup. After that, I’ll send you to the amusement park to meet up with Mrs. Fu and the others!” After saying that, the assistant bent over to pick up the backpack that Yun Liuli had left on the sofa.
Yun Liuli nodded, not appearing to be unwilling to leave like she did in the past. She only said, “Alright!”
The assistant was very surprised. He had prepared a lot of things to say to appease Yun Liuli, but he didn’t manage to use any of them.
In the private room.
Gu Qingcheng’s countenance didn’t seem good. He looked at Fu Huai’an with his black eyes, tapping away the ashes of the cigarette that he was holding. “You’re planning on letting me fake my death?”
Fu Huai’an nodded. “Although you’ll change your name and identity, at least your life with Liuli in the future can be peaceful.”
Gu Qingcheng didn’t reply, and Fu Huai’an pushed a document envelope towards Gu Qingcheng. “This… is the retreat path that you, Lu Jinnan, and Tang Zheng prepared for me in the past. This route is still there. You can put it to use!”
Back then, Fu Huai’an had assumed the identity of Mr. Moral. Gu Qingcheng, Lu Jinnan, and Tang Zheng had been worried about his future, especially when he had Tuan Tuan with him.
This plan had been prepared for Fu Huai’an, and the preparations had started many years ago…
However, it was also because this plan had been planned by Gu Qingcheng and the other two that Gu Qingcheng was well aware of the flaws in it.
This flaw was also the reason Fu Huai’an had decided against the proposal of having him fake his death back then.
“Then my question will be the same question you asked us back then. What will happen to the underground business after I fake my death?” Gu Qingcheng spoke up. “Previously, in order for you to retreat completely, we didn’t consider what would happen to the people in the underground business when we came up with this plan. Have you thought this out?”
Before Gu Qingcheng took over the underground business, it hadn’t been as big as it currently was…
Right now, the entire organization was a few times bigger than it used to be. What would happen to those people?
If no one took over for Gu Qingcheng after he faked his death, then what would happen if internal strife were to occur?
What would happen if they couldn’t hide Fu Huai’an’s identity anymore? Were they going to let Fu Huai’an fake his death as well?
Furthermore, if the person who took over Gu Qingcheng’s position didn’t abide by the rules that “Mr. Moral” had set back then, where they wouldn’t deal with businesses like drugs and prostitution, then how were they going to retrain the person who took over the organization?
“Or, are you going to bring up the matter of disbanding the organization again?” Gu Qingcheng’s brows furrowed tightly, and he put out the cigarette in the ashtray. “Our organization is many times bigger than it used to be. Once disbanded, what would happen to the people in it? How are we going to deal with them?”
Seeing Fu Huai’an picking up the teapot and filling his teacup for him, Gu Qingcheng spoke calmly, as if this problem was something he had asked himself many times over. He said softly, “Let them lead ordinary lives? They are people who have tasted blood. Will they be able to do that? All of them, including Mu Taotao and the others who have been sent to protect Lin Nuan, have only been ordered to play the role of another character. If we really let them lead such lives… how many of them would be able to do that? It’s not that we haven’t tried this out before, but those people all eventually came back to the organization!”
Gu Qingcheng wasn’t a man of few words when it came down to serious business. He picked up the teacup and said, “Those operation teams in our organization are what other people have their eyes on! If they were to join those people, then we’d have nurtured demonic troops for those people! If I were to back out… the cleanest way to do things would be to bury the entire organization. But Old Fu… we aren’t such people!”
Gu Qingcheng had thought about these questions many times over.
That was especially so regarding how they should deal with the people in such a massive organization.
Gu Qingcheng had never thought of himself as a good person. However, he had a baseline for his actions. Just like how things were for Fu Huai’an back then, there were also some things he didn’t wish for his subordinates to come into contact with.
“Back then…” Gu Qingcheng’s throat rolled slightly. “Yun Shoushan… and his wife were people from the United Nations. He was… my retreat path! He was the entire organization’s retreat path! But both he and his wife died…”
“Old Gu, you’ve thought about so much, but why didn’t you… spare a thought for Yun Liuli?” Fu Huai’an asked slowly.
Gu Qingcheng’s throat rolled, and he didn’t say anything. The taste of the tea spread out on the tip of his tongue. It was very bitter.
Liuli… Gu Qingcheng spared the most thoughts for her. It was because he had no idea when it started… but that young lady who often liked to stare into space had long taken up a very important place in his heart.
In the beginning, it could have been pity.
Later on, it was because of guilt…
Then later…
Gu Qingcheng started having feelings that he shouldn’t have had toward Yun Liuli.
He had thought up countless arrangements for Yun Liuli in the past…
He even thought of suppressing his feelings and protecting the young lady in the darkness. He wanted to watch over her forever, watching as she fell in love, got married, and had children!
If he could live to die of old age, he hoped that the young lady could live a blissful, safe, and beautiful life with him protecting her in the dark!
However, in the end, he seemed to be unable to hold back his true feelings. He wanted to be together with this young lady, whom he had placed at the most important position in his heart, to be her lover!
“If you have to be overly cautious and indecisive in everything you do, what can you possibly do?” Fu Huai’an’s lips curled up, appearing to be very much at ease as he looked at Gu Qingcheng. “Think about Yun Liuli. Look at how brave she is to be able to stake everything so that she can be with you!”
“I’m not her. I have too many things tying me down…” Gu Qingcheng’s frown deepened.
