Chapter 718 - Ancient Text
“Young Master Min, I wasn’t expecting to see you here. What brings you all the way out here?” said Huo Yulin calmly.
Min Yu remained warm and polite. “I’m just here to visit Old Madam Yang.”
Huo Yulin glanced at him without saying a word.
Did he have to come when his little sister happened to be visiting Old Madam Yang?
Humph!
The two of them went quiet and the atmosphere felt strangely weird.
After Huo Yao put down their luggage and came downstairs, she could sense that something was wrong. She looked at the two of them and could tell there was something amiss with their expressions.
Huo Yao narrowed her eyes.
Old Madam Yang told everyone to start eating when she came out with the bowls and chopsticks and the intense atmosphere finally disappeared.
Huo Yulin was an introvert, so he spent most of the time listening to Old Madam Yang talk. Min Yu was not a talkative man either, but he would chat with Old Madam Yang every now and then.
Each time Old Madam Yang chatted with Min Yu, she was very happy. It was clear that she genuinely adored him.
Huo Yao felt surprised when she saw this. Old Madam Yang had just mentioned that Min Yu was a good guy. Huo Yao wondered when they started becoming so close.
After lunch, Huo Yao didn’t let Old Madam Yang do the chores. She automatically cleared the crockery and took them to the kitchen.
There was a dishwasher with a sterilization function in the kitchen. She had bought it a long time ago. This smart device made their lives easier.
After putting the crockery into the dishwasher, Huo Yao pressed a button to activate it and left it to do its job.
Min Yu walked into the kitchen and placed the leftovers in the fridge. Huo Yao turned sideways and looked at him. “When did you come back?”
Min Yu closed the refrigerator door. “Yesterday.”
He paused before he looked at Huo Yao and knew what she wanted to ask, so he continued. “Old Madam Yang called me a few days ago telling me you were visiting. Since I hadn’t seen her in a long time, I decided to tag along.”
Huo Yao raised her brow. “Tag along?”
Min Yu cleared his throat before he nodded. “Uh huh.”
Huo Yao smiled ambiguously. “When are you going back?”
“In a few days. Perhaps we can go back together.” Min Yu straightened his back and spoke softly.
Sure.
Huo Yao signaled okay with her hand and stopped talking.
Before long, they walked out of the kitchen.
Huo Yao heard Old Madam Yang telling her third older brother about what she did when she was young when she went back to the living room. She couldn’t help rubbing her forehead before she interrupted. “Granny, where did you store my books?”
Old Madam Yang stopped talking to Huo Yulin. She pointed to a hallway towards her bedroom. “It’s all inside the cabinet in my room. The key is in its usual spot, so help yourself.”
She proceeded to continue talking to Huo Yulin.
Huo Yao acknowledged her grandmother before heading to the bedroom.
Old Madam Yang’s bedroom was rather small and only contained a bed and a cabinet. The cabinet looked very 70s and was made of wood and came with two doors and had a lock on it.
There was a pot of flowers on the windowsill by the side. Huo Yao went over to retrieve a key from under the flowerpot before she walked up to the cabinet and unlocked it.
The cabinet consisted of a top and lower shelf. On the top shelf, there was neatly stacked clothing. An average-sized storage box was kept on the lower shelf along with other miscellaneous items.
Huo Yao took the storage box out of the cabinet. It contained a few thick ancient texts with yellowed pages. It was clear that these books were very old.
