Chapter 379 - Driving for the First Time
“I’ll go to the hospital.” Deng Yang answered calmly as she sent Yun Xiangxiang out.
“Brother Wei, you should go with Sister Yang. I’ll drive back on my own.” Yun Xiangxiang thought that that was a part of her responsibility as someone in charge.
She couldn’t help with the daily dealings, since she didn’t know the rationale behind every operation. But now that she knew something wrong happened, she couldn’t ignore it.
Even though she was not internationally famous, she had a modicum of fame. To not arouse unnecessary conjectures from the media, she had He Wei go for her. She didn’t want the media to muddy the waters.
“Will you be fine? He Wei thought Yun Xiangxiang’s arrangement was fine, but Yun Xiangxiang technically hadn’t driven a car before. “Did you bring your driving license?”
Yun Xiangxiang took out her driving license. Her license was recognized in China, as well as some states in the US. But the US was a complicated state, so some states wouldn’t acknowledge her license, while some would dispute its legitimacy and some even needed auxiliary translated files.
The state she was in right now recognized her license. Besides, there weren’t any dangerous roads here. “It’s not far away.” Yun Xiangxiang nodded. “I’ll drive slowly.”
“You’d better send Xiangxiang back first. I’ll tell you guys what’s going on later.” Yun Xiangxiang was just eighteen, and she rarely came to the US. Deng Yang was worried Yun Xiangxiang might not know the traffic laws here.
She might break the law if she wasn’t careful. Deng Yang didn’t want to be the cause Yun Xiangxiang was in the police station.
“Aw, show me some faith. Get to the hospital, you two. It’s an emergency. I don’t want something to happen just because you worry about me, Sister Yang,” Yun Xiangxiang insisted.
Yun Xiangxiang knew Deng Yang had come across all kinds of problems as an experienced designer. She would never use any fabric that could trigger allergy reactions.
Deng Yang would ask her client if they were allergic to anything, so it was improbable for this to happen. This could be a conspiracy, and the most suspicious person here was her ex-husband.
They knew each other. Yun Xiangxiang asked He Wei to go, just in case Deng Yang would get into trouble. This was also something she should do as a shareholder.
He Wei understood her reasons, but he was still worried about her. “I’ll go to the hospital with Sister Yang. Why don’t you call Song Mian to pick you up here?” he suggested.
“I’m not someone who needs your help for everything.” Yun Xiangxiang was amused.
Yun Xiangxiang would have waited for He Wei here if it wasn’t for her having an appointment with Austin at night. She didn’t want him to worry.
She didn’t want to call Song Mian because of what happened in the afternoon. If she called him now, she would feel awkward about it.
“Drive safely then.” Since Yun Xiangxiang insisted, He Wei gave her the car keys as a compromise.
He let her drive his car back while he drove Deng Yang’s as they went to the hospital.
“Stop if you come across any school bus. No matter how long it takes, wait.” He Wei buckled Yun Xiangxiang, who was in the driver’s seat now. “Also, if you hear any sirens blaring, any siren at all, quickly pull over to the right,” he reminded her with concern.
“Okay, I understand.” Yun Xiangxiang made a note about it.
He Wei said nothing further, and she drove away.
She was fine with driving, but she was unfamiliar with New York’s traffic laws. If it weren’t for her following them around a few times, she wouldn’t dare drive if she knew nothing about the law.
Worried she might forget the directions or that she couldn’t find the place because the return trip took a different route, he even installed a GPS for her. The GPS he installed wasn’t the one they used in China, but it was a real-time app that showed the traffic.
Yun Xiangxiang drove steadily and carefully. The road she started on was wide. There were little cars, but when she kept on driving. Soon, the number of vehicles increased.
After driving for five more minutes, Yun Xiangxiang heard a siren blaring. Following what He Wei said, she quickly pulled over to the right.
But Yun Xiangxiang was unlucky. All the cars pulled over to the right, but when it was her turn to find a spot, the curb displayed: NO STOPPING AT ANY TIME.
Yun Xiangxiang was annoyed.
She had no choice but to pull over to the right. She would have to break some rules, but she couldn’t get in the way of any vehicle with a blaring siren.
She chose the lesser of two crimes as she was left with no choice, so she only hoped the traffic cops would understand her predicament.
Soon, an ambulance zipped past her, and when she drove away, nobody came to a stop her.
When she got home, Song Mian noticed she came down from the driver’s seat alone. “Where’s He Wei?”
“Something came up……” Yun Xiangxiang told the story to Song Mian. I’ll take a shower and change.”
They were treating someone, so Yun Xiangxiang had to tidy herself up as a show of respect.
Song Mian had Song Yao reserve a spot in a very private restaurant adored by the famous.
They had a delightful dinner as she and Austin talked about the stones. She would retrieve the Star of Peace on the next afternoon before going to the airport. As for Yun Xiangxiang’s diamonds, she would send them here the next day to be put in MonRoe’s restricted area.
“When will the black jadeite be here, Yun?” Austin asked.
“Are you in a hurry, Mr. Austin?” Yun Xiangxiang was curious.
“Yes. There’s going to be a grand jewelry event in November. We are among the companies that will go to the exhibition. The event this time gathered all the top jewelry companies in the world. It’s going to be judgment hour for us jewelry companies,” Austin was forward.
Yun Xiangxiang thought about the time. “Can I give you the answer by early October?”
She didn’t know how long Qian Yongnian needed. He was done with the bigger ones, but he needed some time for the smaller ones. She unlocked her phone and selected the finished product pictures before giving them to Austin to look at. “These are the finished ones.”
Austin and Percy were astonished by the pictures, heightening their anticipation for the real deal.
Yun Xiangxiang looked at Song Mian before she took his hand and placed it on the table. “I can let you take everything for the event, Mr. Austin, but not this one. Even if it is also a part of the black jadeite.”
Yun Xiangxiang could lend the accessories she gave her parents and the studs for Wei Shanshan to Austin for the exhibition. Even so, she didn’t want anyone to know about Song Mian’s bracelet.
She promised Austin about the jadeite, but she didn’t mention this, so she thought she had to be clear with him today.
“I’m very content with what you are willing to give me.” Austin didn’t mind Yun Xiangxiang keeping the bracelet, but he was curious about the bracelet. “Can I shine on it?” Austin asked Song Mian politely.
