Chapter 551 - Even A Touch Is Too Much To Ask (1)
The figure carefully stepped on the carpet on the floor, trying not to make a sound that would wake up the person in the bed who had finally fallen asleep.
The afternoon sunlight streamed in through the gaps of the swaying curtains, resting on top of the figure and illuminating the man’s face.
If Su He was still feeling lucky that she had avoided Ye Yan, she would be shocked to find out that the man who had suddenly shown up in her room now was Ye Yan, the man who had made her waver and given her a headache not long ago.
It had been nearly two weeks since he last saw Su He. Ye Yan did not even know exactly how he got through the past two weeks.
At first, Su He was staying in a hospital belonging to him. He was still able to find out about her condition from the doctor, but ever since Su He left the hospital, he had completely lost access to the news of her.
Ye Yan had thought of visiting her house too, but he knew very well about Su Jifeng’s attitude toward him. Even if he did come to visit, he would probably end up being turned away.
He had thought about sneaking in, but the Su family’s security was notoriously tight. Not only do people who went in and out need to be screened, but even vehicles that went in and out would be searched, unless… unless the person who visited was someone particularly close to the Su family.
It was because of this that Ye Yan deliberately brought up Su He when congratulating Zhao Youlin and Mu Tingfeng, in the hope that the two would be able to visit the Su family in the near future, and he could sneak into the Su Residence by riding their car.
Zhao Youlin did not hesitate to take his hint. She took the initiative to mention that she would visit the Su family in the near future. However, as he did not know when the specific time Zhao Youlin and Mu Tingfeng would go to the Su Residence, Ye Yan had been stationed like a thief in the Mu family’s garage over the past two days and waiting for them to show up.
The good thing was that Zhao Youlin and Mu Tingfeng did not make him wait too long. On the second day of their wedding, Zhao Youlin and Mu Tingfeng walked into the Mu Residence’s garage carrying a pile of things.
He, on the other hand, had snuck into the trunk of the car before the two walked to the car and arrived at the Su Residence with them in their car.
As he expected, Mu Tingfeng’s car was not checked by those guards. That was how he sneaked into Su Residence smoothly. Then, he followed Zhao Youlin all the way to Su He’s room. He sneaked in when no one was around and hid in the closet.
He huddled in the cramped trunk of the car for several hours, and he huddled inside the closet for a long time afterwards. Ye Yan could feel his whole body aching.
However, he was not in the mood to dwell on it at the moment, as his attention had been fully shifted to the person on the bed.
Compared to two weeks ago, Su He’s complexion was much better, but other than her obviously bulging belly, she did not seem to have gained any extra weight.
She buried her face in the light-colored sheet. She seemed peaceful and serene. Looking at her made him feel calm.
At this moment, Ye Yan only realized deeply how delicate and fragile this woman in front of him was. She was supposed to be doted on and protected, yet because of him, she had been hurt over and over again.
Guilt wrapped around his heart tightly like vines. Ye Yan was a little overwhelmed by the sudden heartache he felt.
He walked toward the bed and stood by her bedside carefully. He reached out his hand and wanted to touch her face, though he stopped abruptly in the second before he was about to touch it and turned to hold Su He’s hand instead.
Su He was in such a deep sleep that she did not even notice Ye Yan was holding her hand.
Ye Yan looked at the hand in his palm and found that the hand was as small as he remembered, and he could easily wrap it inside his hand.
And this was the hand that strongly dragged him out of the bar that day, yet what did he do?
Ye Yan’s gaze slowly moved down and accurately fixed on Su He’s slightly bulging belly.
Perhaps it was because of the accident last time, even when she was asleep, she laid a hand on top of her belly as a protective gesture to protect the baby inside her belly.
Ye Yan cautiously avoided that hand and gently rested his hand on Su He’s stomach. He could feel the slight movement coming from his palm. He suddenly felt that his eyes were a little sore.
“Baby, I am daddy.” Ye Yan whispered. His voice was so soft that it could blend into the wind and go away with it.
But the child inside the belly seemed to be able to hear the call of its biological father as it gently kicked its mother’s belly.
Ye Yan was taken aback. He turned his head in a panic to look at Su He. Fortunately, Su He just moaned in discomfort and fell asleep again. It seemed that she had gotten used to the baby’s occasional naughtiness.
Only then did Ye Yan breathe a slight sigh of relief. He stared at Su He’s stomach in surprise and gently touched it again.
Their baby, their flesh and blood was inside. Ye Yan had never felt so content. This feeling of contentment was brought to him by her.
Realizing this, Ye Yan suddenly had a little gratitude for God. Although He had taken away a lot of things from him, at least, it was not cruel enough to let him completely forget the person in front of him. He let him come to his senses at the last moment. Things had not developed to the point that it was irreparable. He did not let him… lose her.
Ye Yan looked at the person lying on the bed. The tenderness in his eyes was overflowing. After a long while, it was as if he had finally gathered enough courage. He leaned over Su He’s side and whispered, “I am sorry. Thank you, and… I love you.”
A warm afternoon breeze brushed the blazing windowsill, bringing a slight coolness into the room. The white veil at the window swayed, quietly recording the warm image of the man inside the room leaning over to the woman on the bed and giving her a kiss on her cheek.
Su He had a dream about seeing Ye Yan for the first time on her birthday when she was eight years old.
At that time, Ye Yan held her hand tightly and led her to run happily inside the corridor. The splendid firelight cast a layer of faint misty light on them. They were running and laughing loudly.
Suddenly, the tiny person in front of him turned into the grown-up Ye Yan, who stared at her with a completely strange look and asked her, “Who are you?”
Su He felt her chest tighten. She reflexively wanted to turn and flee, only to find herself unable to move, while the man suddenly walked toward her, step by step, and finally softly whispered into her ear, “Xiao Qi.”
Su He’s tightly closed eyes open wide instantly. She stared at the ceiling above and panted heavily for a while.
When she finally calmed down, she murmured, “So it was just a dream?”
