After Wind and Rain Mobile launched S1, all major mobile phone manufacturers received first-hand news. They even sent their representatives to the product launch.
The attitudes of the major mobile phone manufacturers are different after seeing how powerful the S1 features are.
Nokia CEO is calm about this. Since Wind and Rain Mobile wants to target the high-end market, he will show them what is called a real high-end phone. Nokia had planned to introduce a high-end mobile brand, and it’s the cheapest phone cost more than 2,500 USD. It can also be customized, and a customized phone might cost more than 100,000 USD!
The phone’s casing is using aerospace materials, and the keypad is made from gold. Diamonds and other precious stones are embedded in the casing and have strong signals. It is specially designed for those tycoons.
The high-end market will belong to Nokia!
For smartphones, Nokia must work with other companies, and Symbian must merge with other companies. Currently, the Symbian system is divided into three versions for Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson. This was agreed upon when they developed Symbian. The core system is the same, but there are minor differences for each company.
The companies that entered the smartphone market later are Samsung, LG, Panasonic, etc. They are using one of the three versions. The three Symbian system versions are developing in different directions, and it limited the overall development.
After everyone saw the features of Wind and Rain Mobile’s operating system, Nokia’s CEO decided to discuss with Motorola and Sony Ericsson. He wants them to give up upgrading their operating system and let Nokia’s Symbian become the mainstream. They will beat Wind and Rain Mobile’s HOS with it!
Motorola is the market leader of the North and South American markets. When Wind and Rain Mobile host their product launch in New York, Motorola was the first to attend and know Wind and Rain Mobile’s advantage.
Smartphones’ hardware and software are equally important. Motorola is not worried about the hardware, but their software, which they are so proud of, could not stop Wind and Rain Mobile’s advancement. Motorola had not expected Wind and Rain Mobile to develop their operating system with more powerful features.
Symbian was developed to monopolize the smartphone market and stop other mobile phone manufacturers from entering. But Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Nokia are too ambitious and want to be mobile phone leaders.
Motorola and Ericsson were the leaders in the mobile phone market, but they are overtaken by Nokia now. Motorola is currently in second place, and Ericsson becomes fourth, and this was after they merged with Sony. Samsung will soon overtake Sony Ericsson’s fourth place.
If Ericsson had not owned lots of telecommunication patents, they would have lost money on their mobile phone business. Even with the patents, they had to merge with Sony, or else, they would have suffered massive losses.
Sony Ericsson had started developing smartphones earlier than Motorola, Nokia, and Blackberry. Blackberry and Nokia control the smartphone market, and Motorola and Sony Ericsson are behind them.
Now, Wind and Rain Mobile had entered the smartphone market suddenly, and Sony Ericsson is furious. Wind and Rain Mobile had overtaken their third place, and they are trying to invade into their smartphone market now!
Once the smartphone market is overtaken by Wind and Rain Mobile, Sony Ericsson’s mobile division must consider if they should continue with this brand or focus on technology development.
Sony and Ericsson are strong and advantageous in technology developments. Selling patents is also profitable, and they will have fewer worries. Also, they can cut any unnecessary spending and increase their profits.
The simplest solution to stop Wind and Rain Mobile from entering the smartphone market is to develop a better smartphone.
Symbian had already suppressed Blackberry, and they thought Symbian would be the most powerful operating system for smartphones. But now, a HOS system, which is better than all three versions of Symbian systems and Blackberry, appeared in the market.
A Smartphone system must be easy to operate with powerful features. This is just like the PC operating system. Most of Microsoft’s operating systems can be operated by a mouse.
Sony Ericsson and Nokia want to upgrade their operating system to overtake Wind and Rain Mobile. With their branding, they can easily suppress Wind and Rain Mobile.
Of course, they also want to make their upgraded Symbian system become the mainstream operating system for smartphones.
Before Nokia and Sony Ericsson CEOs could decide, Motorola’s CEO and President contacted them to talk about Symbian system upgrades.
Both Nokia and Sony Ericsson will not object to this idea. Still, Motorola wants to take the lead, which both disagreed.
These three companies are the first supporters of the Symbian system, and the Symbian system can be considered developed by them.
The first Symbian phone is Ericsson, and the most popular phone is Nokia’s. Both felt Motorola has no right to compete with them.
All three companies felt each other are trying to suppress them, and the negations failed.
But Wind and Rain Mobile are coming to snatch their market share, and they must take some measures. At around the same time, Motorola has a great opportunity.
Microsoft had approached Motorola to persuade them to switch to the Microsoft system. Look at HTC. They are using our Microsoft system and are selling well in Asia.
Samsung and many Korean companies are also using our system, and they are doing well. Also, we are prepared to increase our investments into developing this system, and our system will get better in the future.
When that happens, Blackberry, Symbian, or HOS, will be beaten by us because we are Microsoft!
Maybe Microsoft has a brand advantage, or Motorola believes in Microsoft’s capabilities. Motorola announced they would be switching to Microsoft’s smartphone system!
Blackberry started to panic when they heard Motorola is joining Microsoft. The competition in North America will become stiffer, and they must upgrade their systems to compete.
