Chapter 43 Cinderella in a Golden Cage 1
Lin Qianrou sat with her legs pressed together and ankles crossed while waiting inside her gynecologist's office. She was also waiting for Li Meili to arrive to accompany her for this appointment.
The waiting room was painted with soft hues of yellow and blue and the walls were decorated with posters about various dangers and illnesses a pregnant woman may encounter during her pregnancy. Across her, the wall had paintings that she assumed may have cost millions of yuan, something that her husband's associates and circle would like to own.
Before she married Xu Wenyang, Lin Qianrou rarely visited a private doctor. Unlike her husband, she wasn't born with a silver spoon. She squirmed on her seat in frustration. Why was Li Meili taking too long to arrive?
Her beige chiffon dress with matching stilettos cost more than what a regular employee earns in a month. It should be enough to make her happy, like she belonged into Xu Wenyang's world, but her whole wardrobe was brought by a professional stylist to ensure that she looked and presented herself accordingly as Madam Xu.
For Lin Qianrou, she would never spend such an amount of money for something she would only wear once or twice in her life. However, her personal stylist had made sure that she wouldn't repeat any clothes she'd already worn and it drove Lin Qianrou insane.
She wasn't sure if it was because she'd refused her stylist's assistant to have her clothes custom made and decided to bring something new every other day to add in to her wardrobe.
Her eyes then landed on the clock on the wall. She mentally counted the seconds that passed as she waited for the doctor's return. What was taking them so long? Was it really hard to determine if she was really pregnant or not?
A few minutes later, the doctor walked in and took her seat at the desk. She was wearing a white lab coat on top of her casual attire. The woman was already in her late fifties but she was still one of the most sought gynecologists in the city, especially within the socialite circle. She was considered one of the best, and that was why Xu Wenyang insisted that the doctor should be the one in charge of her feminine matters.
"Congratulations, Madam Xu. You're pregnant." The doctor passed the lab results to Lin Qianrou. "I'm sure that your husband would be thrilled to hear about your pregnancy."
"T-thank you…" Lin Qianrou didn't bother to check the results as she already knew about her pregnancy even before she came here. She just needed to make sure that she was pregnant and her baby was healthy. As for her husband, she didn't know how Xu Wenyang would take the news.
They'd been married for three years, but she and Xu Wenyang had never discussed having children. They'll be celebrating their third anniversary on Friday, maybe she could discuss it with him if he could spare her some of his precious time.
"Thank you, Dr. Huang," Lin Qianrou felt a little better now.
"I'll see you in two weeks' time for your next appointment." The doctor added.
After ten minutes, Lin Qianrou stepped out of the room and saw Li Meili waiting for her outside.
"Qian, I'm so sorry for being late. I had to drop the papers Moyu asked me to on the way here. How is it? Are you sick? Why did you need to see Dr. Huang for a check up?" Li Meili bombarded her with questions.
"You are really close with the empress, aren't you? We've been friends for a long time, but you've never bothered to introduce me to her. Such a good friend you are, Meili." Lin Qiarou pouted. She was dying to meet the empress and she was sure as hell that Tang Moyu wasn't as bad as some socialite women painted her to be.
Li Meili laughed and hooked an arm on her friend's and dragged her away from the hospital. Lin Qianrou had met her during one of her exhibits. The fashion designer was kind enough to buy some of her paintings at a high price while everyone ignored her passion. Since then, they'd become good friends.
Within the social circle, filled with wealthy women who came from prominent families, she only knew Li Meili. A commoner like her had no place in their circle, yet Li Meili had never looked down on her since she'd met her. Li Meili was that one person she could call anytime to listen to her complaints and accompany her when she was alone.
"Aww, poor baby. Don't worry, one of these days, I will bring Moyu with me so you can meet her. She's definitely better than those socialite women you've met before." Li Meili beamed a smile at her. "Her little buns are also irresistible. No doubt you will fall in love with them at first sight."
