Chapter 122 Once in a Lifetime 2
"As long as you stop bothering me and forcing me to marry someone I don't like, I think we're good, grandpa." She hissed at him. She couldn't believe that this old man thought that the devil would be a good match for her.
Even if they were distant relatives, she would never get romantically involved with Feng Tianyi!
Elder Gu nodded in agreement. He could do that as long as she would stop running away and would inform him of her whereabouts.
"I won't force you to forgive me and your parents. I know you need time for your pain to heal, but will you at least accept the inheritance your father left behind for you? He'd worked hard for it, hoping to give you a better life. At least take it, Yaoyao. We would be at peace knowing that you aren't struggling to sustain yourself."
Gu Yuyao stared at him and pursed her lips.
"Money cannot and will never change anything, grandfather."
"I know but think of it as giving me and your father a peace of mind." The old man insisted. "As I look at you right now, I can see your father and brother, whom I've also lost. I don't have many years left, Yaoyao. I could only be at peace knowing that you're provided for."
She sighed, knowing that she wouldn't win this round against her grandfather.
"Give me time to think about it." She rubbed her temple in frustration. At least this talk was better than the last one they had, and her grandfather was willing to work things out with her even though her own family wasn't around any longer.
A small part of her regretted knowing that it took him a long time to realize that she was in pain and not just being a rebellious and independent daughter. She needed a family who truly loved her after losing the only person who treated her right.
The old man smiled, his face lightened up as if the burden over his shoulder was lifted up.
"You're a tough girl, Yaoyao. You are truly a Gu for persisting this long to avoid us."
The woman only shrugged and crossed her legs, wondering what He Lianchen and the other two were doing right now.
"Now, tell me about the Second Young Master He who came here with Tianyi and Tang Moyu."
Her lips twitched at the sudden turn of their conversation. Was this old man planning to break them apart or what?
"What about him that you do not know yet? Didn't you say that he's not worthy?"
For someone as influential as her grandfather, it would be impossible for him not to know about He Lianchen, especially if she was involved with him.
Gu Yuyao groaned. This was definitely one of those topics she didn't want to talk about with him.
"Grandpa, I don't want to discuss my private affairs right now," she bit out. It was one thing that he wanted to set her up with Feng Tianyi. Gu Yuyao definitely didn't want He Lianchen to get involved in her family problems.
"I'm not trying to pry. I'm just curious." Elder Gu laughed, "You've already dumped him ten years ago, but he still waited this long to be with you once again. Yaoyao, it's about time you have someone who truly cares for you and loves you. The love and care that we couldn't give you over the years. Considering that he chose to come here with the devil to retrieve you, I could tell that he's one of those rare gems you shouldn't lose."
She nodded. He Lianchen was truly someone incomparable to all the other men she'd been with. For the love of God, she couldn't even understand why he was willing to put up with her, considering she'd hurt him so badly before.
"People like him don't come along in your life every day. I can see that he's devoted to you. You'll only meet a person like him once in a lifetime, so don't worry about what people would say about you."
She scoffed at that. She'd never give a damn about what people thought of her. Most people weren't aware that she was a Gu heiress anyway. There were a few who managed to find out, and Tang Moyu, being one of them, wasn't one to use her identity against her nor take advantage of her.
"I'm not planning to run away anymore, and I definitely don't have plans on breaking up with him." She gave her grandfather a suspicious look before pulling herself back on her feet to leave the study. "Don't be harsh on him, grandpa." She reminded him before stepping outside, releasing a sigh of relief.
Feng Tianyi said that he was striking a deal with her grandfather. She wondered what the deal would entail. Was He Lianchen the one who proposed it, or was it her grandfather?
Shaking her head, Gu Yuyao decided to find her friends downstairs and wasn't surprised to see them eating lunch without her. Her stomach grumbled loudly. Now that everything was alright, the pang of hunger for not eating properly for days finally hit her.
"Yaoyao, come here and join us." Tang Moyu said, while He Lianchen stood up and rounded the table to push Feng Tianyi towards the study with him.
Gu Yuyao looked at her man worriedly but He Lianchen only gave her a reassuring smile.
"They'll be fine. Whatever it is, it will be fine." Tang Moyu wiped her lips with the napkin and saw the two men enter the elevator across the dining area where they were in.
