Chapter 209 My Whole Life Is a Lie 1
Just what did her sister mean that she wasn't her mother's child? All of her legal documents named Zhang Wuying as her mother, so why would her Wan Jie say otherwise? She was aware that the reason her parents had adopted Tang Wanyu was because Zhang Wuying had trouble getting pregnant.
But why would her Wan Jie claim that Zhang Wuying wasn't her birth mother?
"Moyu…… I suppose by now, you knew that our parents were only bound together because of a marriage arrangement." Tang Wanyu hesitated. She wasn't sure if this was the right time to come clean and let her sister know the truth about her birth. No doubt, their mother would be furious at her once she found out that she told Moyu about what she knew.
"Yes, I'm fully aware of that, Wan Jie. But what does it have to do with me not being our mother's daughter?" Tang Moyu couldn't stop her whole body from trembling. She was forced to take a seat before her legs failed her.
Was this why no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't win their mother's approval?
"Then… you should know that Father didn't intend to marry her at all, and was ready to disregard their engagement." The elder Tang sibling paused for a moment and tried to gauge Moyu's reaction. "Father was in a relationship with another woman even before they got married."
Tang Moyu felt like someone poured a bucket of frozen ice on her entirety. She could only assume what that could mean for her.
"I don't know all the details, Moyu. But whenever she was drunk, Mother kept saying that you should have died along with your…" Tang Wanyu wasn't sure if she should filter the words their mother used to insult her or not. "In her words, the slut who seduced her man." She gulped and looked away. "She said you should have died along with your birth mother and twin brother."
Tang Moyu felt that her whole world was spinning and crashing down at the same time. All the nasty, sharp words her mother had subjected her to, all the memories she had with her father kept replaying in her mind.
Something inside of her cracked down and she was already on the verge of breaking down at any given moment.
"T-twins?" She stuttered in disbelief. She was part of a set of twins?
Tang Wanyu nodded and wrapped her shawl tighter around herself. Since her younger sister was willing to step up for her against their mother and her husband, this could be the only way she thought she could repay Moyu, by telling her the truth.
"Yes. I was told that you were the older twin, Moyu."
When Tang Wanyu met her sister's little buns for the first time, she had thought that Tang Moyu was able to give birth to twins because she also came from a set of twins herself.
There were so many questions plaguing Tang Moyu's mind. She still couldn't believe that her twenty-nine years of existence had been a lie all this time. Most of all, she felt completely betrayed by her father, frustrated to have been fooled for a long time by Zhang Wuying. It all made sense to her now why the woman had always looked at her with animosity and disgust.
The empress closed her eyes as she tried to rein her swirling, conflicting emotions. This was too much for her to take. The truth of her not being Zhang Wuying's child had yet to sink in her mind.
Since she was young, Zhang Wuying had forced her to become detached from her emotions and even went as far as locking her inside her own closet for days, refusing to feed her or to give her anything to drink at the young age of eight.
Not even Auntie Lu could convince Zhang Wuying to release and have pity on her. It was only after she promised not to cry again or show weaknesses did the awful woman release her from her confinement.
Since that day, the innocent, adorable child that Auntie Lu loved the most became emotionally detached from anyone, not showing interest in anything nor giving away any clue as to what she was thinking. All this had happened even before young Moyu met Feng Tianhua for the first time.
Tang Wanyu could see how her little sister struggled to accept her confession. She could understand that this was all too much to accept. Since she was young, she'd known that she was only an adopted child and didn't have much standing within the family. She was neither as smart and capable like Moyu, nor was she incomparable to Tang Beixuan, the true heir of the Tang family.
"Moyu, I'm sorry. I shouldn't keep this from you for too long, but I'm sure if I don't do this, Mother would continue to attempt to use you in the future. I can see how happy you are with Mr. Qin and your children. After all the things you've suffered in the past, you deserved this little heaven you've got here, with them." She told her sister with sympathy.
Tang Wanyu knew better than anyone the depth of Zhang Wuying's manipulative mind. That so-called mother of hers didn't care if anything she did would hurt her daughters in the process. She'd grown up beside her mother and had witnessed her mother's extreme selfishness firsthand.
She was just an adopted child, and Moyu was a daughter who came from their father's long time lover. This was why Zhang Wuying didn't care about what happened to her or Moyu. They weren't blood related anyway and were only good as pawns to gain advantage in getting whatever she wanted by using them.
