Damn Li Meili. If she hadn't arrived… Feng Tianhua seethed in anger.

Of course, his meeting today with the empress wasn't a coincidence like he claimed it to be. He'd known she would be there to meet Ye Xiaozu and he'd been nearby. How could he waste his chance to see her and talk to her?

When he first saw her at the banquet months ago, he was too shocked to say anything to her. Years of not seeing her, Feng Tianhua thought that he'd already gotten over her, that she was no more for him.

Feng Tianhua entered the CEO's office, which was located at the top floor of the twenty-seven-floor building. This was the same office that Tang Moyu had used before he'd kicked her to the curb and cut ties with her, something he deeply regretted right now.

He'd been a fool. Blinded by rage that another man had snatched his prize from right under his nose. He'd turned his anger towards Tang Moyu, who was no doubt a victim of the circumstances. Feng Tianhua was certain that the empress wasn't a person who would purposely cheat behind his back to get even with him.

Feng Tianhua covered his face with both hands, as he let the silence of the room engulf him, hoping it would somehow settle the turmoil in his heart.

  Tang Moyu…

The first time he met her, he'd already fallen in love with her.

Feng Tianhua could still clearly remember the first time he'd met her as if it was only yesterday. Meeting a young girl just outside their garden, he stumbled upon the cold empress with a blank expression on her face. She was looking at the huge tree in their garden alone and deep in thought.

The young girl had long wavy hair, dark as midnight, her round brown eyes were cold and unreadable, not giving Feng Tianhua a chance to know what she was thinking right then.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" He demanded, diverting her attention away from the tree that had nothing to offer to either of them, well, other than to protect them from the scorching heat of the sun.

Even in Shenzhen, where the sun was always up and the weather could burn one's skin, the young empress's skin was pale and smooth like a doll. If Tang Moyu hadn't turned to face him, Young Feng Tianhua would have surely mistaken her for a doll right then.

"I'm Tang Moyu." She introduced herself before glancing back to the pair of birds flapping incessantly around a nest with their hatchlings. "You are?"

Feng Tianhua couldn't understand why Tang Moyu was interested in those birds, but he liked how her voice sounded. It was soft and mellow, cold but refreshing.

"Do you like birds? I can give you one if you like." He suggested, trying to strike a conversation with her. "A parrot perhaps? Or a cockatoo. Just name anything and I'll try to find it for you."

Was this the girl his mother mentioned earlier? The girl he should win against his older brother? No wonder his mother insisted on him making friends with Tang Moyu. She was definitely one of a kind.

Young Tang Moyu shook her head and tucked the stray locks behind her ear as the breeze made them flutter midair that afternoon.

"There's no need for that." She sighed and started to walk back inside the Feng mansion as Feng Tianhua followed closely behind her. "It isn't nice to be caged at all." She said solemnly.

Young Feng Tianhua knitted his brows in confusion. What did she mean by that? It was clear that she was interested in those birds, yet, she denied his offer to give her one.

That same day, the two were informed about their betrothal and Feng Tianhua had been over the moon knowing that this beautiful girl beside him was to be his wife. He was too ecstatic over the news that he hadn't noticed Tang Moyu's eyes glistening in tears, clenching her small fists on her side as she nodded her head in agreement.

Since then, Feng Tianhua tried his best to be on the young empress's good side. However, it was obvious that Tang Moyu was keeping everyone at arm's length, not allowing anyone to get close with her except for that unruly young heiress of the Li family.

His thoughts were interrupted when he heard a light knock on his door.

"CEO Feng? The board meeting is about to start in an hour. Just reminding you." His assistant said before leaving him alone once again.

He stood up from his seat and strode towards the floor to ceiling window overlooking the cityscapes of Shenzhen. No wonder Tang Moyu had preferred this office compared to the others. There was something in the scenery that made him aware of the reality.

  A painful reality.

It was obvious by their meeting today that Tang Moyu was still mad at him, which only made sense after all the stupid things he'd done to her. She couldn't even stand being in the same place with him.

Her file… her life for the past five years of her exile was kept in one of his drawers. She'd given birth to a pair of twins and a part of him wished that they were his. Alas, that unknown bastard, who had touched what was supposed to be his, had given Tang Moyu the children that she loved the most.
