Chapter 264 Don’t Treat Me Like a Child 2
Hadn't he already waited enough?
When he confessed to her five years ago in her drunken state, they ended up tangled in her bed, which led to Meili panicking the next morning upon realizing what they had done. She was mortified at the thought that she'd slept with him, but Tang Beixuan hadn't regretted anything between them.
He'd been in love with her for a long time. Tang Beixuan had a long time crush on her ever since he met her through his Moyu Jie. Why wouldn't Li Meili believe him? Was it because he was too young back then?
Li Meili was about to leave his sister's home when he followed her outside and held her wrist just when she was about to unlock her car, catching her off guard.
"Meili, let's talk." He told her.
"What's there to talk about? Do you need something?" Li Meili immediately recovered from shock and replied casually.
Tang Beixuan's mouth turned down. He was furious that she was keeping him at an arm's length again. Had she already forgotten about him? Impossible!
Meanwhile, Li Meili tried so hard not to react to his presence, under his intense stare. Gone was the teenage boy who had a huge crush on her. The boy who used to greet her with a boyish grin dressed in jeans and black shirt like a rock star.
Instead, Tang Beixuan turned into a charming, handsome young man, dressed casually like those models one could see in magazines. Unlike Tang Moyu who had pale white skin, Tang Beixian had a slightly tanned skin, courtesy of being active in sports when he was younger.
He had a pair of eyes that reminded Li Meili of Little Star's mischievous glint. His facial features were sharper and more mature compared to the last time she'd seen him. Five years ago, Li Meili was sure that he was yet to become a man and still had hints of his innocence from his childhood. None of those were visible to her now.
"Why? I just wanted to talk to you? Is it really wrong?" He scowled, refusing to release her wrist.
Li Meili pulled her wrist from his hold but he only tightened his grip on her.
"Beixuan, we should not see each other like this." She insisted.
"Why? Because you don't want my sister to know about us? Are you really that ashamed to be with me? You're quite ruthless to me, Miss Li. Do you know that?" There was a hint of disappointment in his voice that Li Meili hadn't failed to notice.
"It was a mistake, Beixuan. Please don't make this hard for me." Li Meili begged him. Not only would her heart be at stake if she allowed herself to acknowledge what she felt for him, her friendship with Tang Moyu might be in jeopardy as well.
She could see his jaws hardening, his eyes flashed with frustration over her rejection.
"For you it was a mistake, but for me it was one of the best things that happened to my life, Meili. Please… don't do this to me." He begged her, laying his heart bare for her to see, hoping she would accept it.
Li Meili stared at him for a moment before shaking her head.
No. Whatever they had in the past should remain in the past.
"You were too young back then, Beixuan. As your elder sister, you should listen to me and move on. This for the better." She said before pulling her wrist once more, this time Tang Beixuan released her, too shocked from her words.
"But I'm not a boy anymore, Meili! Don't treat me like a child who cannot decide on his own!" He countered.
"That's irrelevant. You should know better. It was clearly a mistake."
Li Meili didn't give him a chance to respond as she immediately slipped inside her car, turning the engine on and driving away from Peach Blossom Garden. Her hands tightening on the steering wheel. She did the right thing, right? Then why did she feel awful when she was the one who turned him down?
Pearls of unshed tears rolled down her cheeks as she realized how foolish she had been.
Shit. She'd fallen hard for Tang Beixuan without knowing it.
The boy—the man had been persistent in sending flowers to her office for the past five years, not missing a day since their last meeting. Such effort that Li Meili had never seen from anyone else. Up to this day, there would be a bouquet of flowers waiting for her at her desk every morning.
Three years ago, when she returned to Shenzhen to confront her parents about the marriage arrangement they had set for her, she hadn't expected Moyu's brother to come after her.
When Tang Beixuan heard that she was getting engaged, he took the first flight he could get and flew from New Jersey just to beg her, convince her not to marry and wait for his return.
Tang Beixuan had wasted one semester, staying close to her in Shenzhen. His elder sister, oblivious that he was chasing after her best friend.
Had she been waiting for him all this time? Was this the reason why no matter how many men she dated, at the end of the day her thoughts would always stray towards him?
It took sometime before Tang Beixuan recovered from his shock and could only see Li Meili's car disappearing from his sight. No. This can't be. There was no way in hell would he allow her to get away from him!
