Chapter 289 - You Only Have One Life, Moyu (1)
Feng Tianyi took another bath after his dinner with the Tangs. Thankfully, Auntie Lu had already prepared the toiletries and clothes she'd gotten from the guest house where he was staying. After he was done, he took his cane and went out of his temporary guest room.
Before Auntie Lu left him, she said that Tang Moyu's study was at the end of the hallway, on the right side facing her own room. He knocked on her door once, but there was no response, even on the second one.
"Looking for me?" Tang Moyu's voice shifted his attention from her bedroom door towards the study. She was leaning on the door frame with her arms crossed over her c.h.e.s.t.
"Ah, I thought you were already in bed." Feng Tianyi bit his inner cheek, aware that he was lying. She couldn't probably be sleeping at this time of the night, considering how workaholic she was.
Tang Moyu was already dressed for bed in her silk nightdress, topped with a silk robe. She sighed and went back inside the study, Feng Tianyi following behind her. As expected, the empress was still working, seeing how her computer was still powered on and there were papers stacked on her desk.
"Still working this late at night?" He asked.
"Can't be helped." Tang Moyu replied as she took a seat behind her desk and wore her spectacles. "You'll probably understand, since you also need to meet deadlines for your works." She added and rested her chin on the back of her hand as she looked at her monitor. The blue light coming from it reflected on her lenses.
Feng Tianyi wanted to argue but he knew she got him there. There were times when he spent sleepless nights, in front of his computer, his fingers typing nonstop, regardless what time it was.
Still, it was incomparable to the empress, who never seemed to take a break from her to-do list that's been procreating like bunnies drugged with aphrodisiac. No matter how fast she went through them, more seemed to appear to replace the previous ones she finished.
"Still, shouldn't you be sleeping by this time? Isn't Little Star recovering well? Why are you still on the edge and forcing yourself to stay alert?" He asked. He hadn't failed to notice that Tang Moyu was momentarily stunned for a second before she resumed her work.
"Moyu." Feng Tianyi refused to ignore the obvious signs that something was troubling her.
Tang Moyu pursed her lips, looked at him for a moment and sighed.
"I'm just worried, Tianyi. I can't help but be worried every time they get in trouble or whenever they are sick." She removed her spectacles and rubbed her right eye.
Wasn't every mother like that? But Feng Tianyi could tell that there was more to it. Tang Moyu can't be this easily perturbed if it wasn't serious. There was something she wasn't telling him.
Feng Tianyi walked towards her slowly, rounding the desk until he was standing next to her. He fell on one knee, shocking the empress with his sudden action.
"What are you doing?! Get up!" She told him, holding his shoulders, gesturing to him to stand back on his feet. What was he up to anyway?
Feng Tianyi shook his head and took her hands instead.
"No, Moyu. You still don't understand, do you??You aren't alone anymore. You have friends around you who worry not only for you, but for your children as well. I'm here with you. If you keep us too long in the dark, how are we supposed to help you? Please don't wait until it is too late."
For the longest time, Tang Moyu had been dealing with her problems alone and if she needed help, it was Li Meili who always came first in her list. However, it was different now since she also now had Feng Tianyi in her life.
She still wasn't sure where this relationship she had with him would take them, but she hoped that she wouldn't wake up one day seeing him give her a cold shoulder. What if she woke up one day to him saying that he didn't love her anymore? That, like Feng Tianhua, he would shatter her heart and betray in the future.
Tang Moyu didn't think she would be able to pretend that she would be alright seeing the person she thought loved her, turn his back on her and return to being a stranger. Even if she didn't say it loud, she might have really fallen in love with him. As for when it started, the empress had no idea.
"Moyu, don't you know? Not saying anything can also be considered lying." His hold on her hand tightened as he looked at her straight in the eyes, allowing her to see his love, his frustration, his need to make sure that she and the twins would be alright.
"I know, but I'm trying, alright?" Tang Moyu looked down at their twined fingers. She'd never allowed any man to hold her like Feng Tianyi did. In fact, even when she was still engaged to his younger brother, she had kept her distance from Feng Tianhua.
Just how did she manage to change so much just to be with Feng Tianyi? Although she feared that one day he would regret being with her, Tang Moyu still couldn't deny the voice in her heart. She hoped she wouldn't regret opening up her heart to him.
"It's not only about Little Star, Tianyi…" She mumbled, but it was loud enough for Feng Tianyi to hear her. "Baobao also has the same condition as hers."
"You mean Baobao is also sick?" Feng Tianyi asked in confusion. Didn't she say Baobao was the healthier child between her twins?
Tang Moyu pursed her lips and glanced at his face before returning her gaze to their hands.
"No, that's not what I mean. Baobao and Little Star have a rare blood type."
