Chapter 294 - Huo Yunhao (2)
As he got older, Huo Zhenghui was known to have a bad temper. Not only did he not get along with his sons, but he was also strict on his people. It turned worse when, one by one, his sons died from illnesses and accidents that left him without a successor.
His eldest son died at the age of forty five, leaving a childless wife behind. Three years later, his youngest son died in a car accident, leaving him with the second son, who he'd kicked out years ago from the company and later became Huo Yunhao's father.
Huo Yunxi married a german woman named Irina Augenstein as he settled for work in Europe, away from the Huo family. Although more talented and smarter compared to his two brothers, Huo Yunxi had no passion or interest to run their family business, infuriating his father.
Huo Zhenghui believed that with his talent and outgoing personality, Huo Yunxi would be able to keep their company flourishing. When two of his sons died, he sent someone to seek after his only remaining son in Europe, but he was already too late as Huo Yunxi also lost his life a week before the family lawyer arrived. They only discovered Huo Yunhao's existence then.
The five year old boy and his widowed mother, Irina Augenstein, were brought home, but because of the old man's stigma against westerners, he decided to take custody of the boy, taking him away from his mother.
Feng Tianyi looked at the boy with amus.e.m.e.nt. If it was another boy, Huo Yunhao would have blamed the old man for separating him from his mother, but he could tell that the boy adored the grumpy old man.
"Yun'er, have you seen your mother recently?" He asked the boy once He Lianchen and Song Fengyan left. He was working in the kitchen, preparing for lunch when the three children decided that they were already tired playing outside and chose to watch him cook instead.
"Yes." The little boy beamed a smile from his seat. "Grandpa let me visit my mommy yesterday because he was too sick to accompany me."
Being born and raised in Europe, Huo Yunhao mostly spoke German and English, but it was obvious that he was more proficient in German. What surprised Feng Tianyi was that Tang Moyu's twins were able to speak the language at such a young age. Just what kind of teaching had she been giving these children?
"Ah, no wonder you're in a good mood right now." Xiao Bao said in fluent german, which made Feng Tianyi think the boy had it as his native language. He was obviously more fluent than his younger sister, who only spoke short responses to Huo Yunhao.
"How come you and Little Star can speak German?" He couldn't help but ask the little buns. "Did your mommy teach you?"
"En." Xiao Bao took a huge bite on his apple then glanced at his twin sister, who was struggling to peel the orange in her hand. "Mommy and Auntie Mei taught us. Auntie Mei said that if we want to tag along when Mommy travels, we should learn a few words."
A few words he said… but did he and Little Star just devour both the grammar books and dictionary? Even Feng Tianyi had taken over ten years to be able to speak fluent German, but these two little buns only took four years?
It must be because the little buns' first language was English. When English speakers learn German, they will have consolation in finding a lot of words that are similar in both languages.
"Why isn't she living with you anyway? Did your mommy and grandpa have a fight?" Feng Tianyi heard Little Feiyu asked.
Feng Tianyi was also curious to know the reason why. Although he didn't mind the twins befriending the Young Master of the Huo family, he certainly didn't want them to get involved in their family issues.
"I'm not sure…" Huo Yunhao said in a low voice. "My mommy said I should listen to grandpa and try to take care of him. Mommy said Grandpa doesn't have anyone right now and he is alone, so it's alright if I stay with him for the meantime."
Feng Tianyi was impressed by Huo Yunhao. His parents had raised a good son who never held a grudge against anyone at his young age. He also needed to give Irina Augenstein some credit for teaching her son not to be angry with his grandfather, even though what Huo Zhenghui did to the mother and child was despicable in Feng Tianyi's opinion.
Huo Yunhao was still a child that needed his mother's love and attention. The old man depriving the child of it made him despicable, not only in Feng Tianyi's eyes, but to Tang Moyu as well. She ran a quick background check on Huo Yunhao the moment she was sought by his bodyguard to confirm his visitation to Peach Blossom Garden.
"He will soon find out how wrong he was by taking Huo Yunhao from his mother." The empress commented after he read the file on the boy.
"Are you talking based on experience?" Feng Tianyi asked curiously.
Didn't the Tang family take her in after her birth mother's death, and yet she was the one who gave them trouble these days? Was this what she was implying?
Tang Moyu hummed but said nothing in return. She and Huo Yunhao weren't the same, but she had no doubt that the boy would be able to thaw the cold hearted old man soon. Huo Zhenghui would have no other choice but to allow Irina's return in her son's life sooner or later.
He was lucky that the boy had a good mother to look after Huo Yunhao, but Tang Moyu was different. She was thrown to a pack of wolves, forcing her to shed her innocence as a child as the Tang family allowed Zhang Wuying to exploit her from a young age.
A puppet. A very good puppet on top of that.
