Chapter 295 - I Know the Moment I Saw You (1)
While her little buns were staying at home with Feng Tianyi and spending the whole day playing with Huo Yunhao, Tang Moyu tried to avoid the crowd as she strode towards the room next to the banquet hall to take a break from conversing with people.
She didn't understand why she was suddenly thrown into the spotlight. The event was supposed to celebrate the inauguration of the project her company had recently completed, but people fawned around her for attention.
Some were even the ones who looked down on her during her rift with Feng Tianhua five years ago. Tang Moyu shouldn't have been surprised at how people can easily be swayed to change their minds when the situation was profitable to them.
If there was something that the empress despised most in this world, it was the ugly truth that people were greedy and extremely selfish. This was something she learned the hard way. The people you thought were your 'friends' only knew you when they could gain something from you, but would be the first one to spite you when you are down.
Five years ago, weren't these the same people who'd taken Feng Tianhua's side and talked behind her back? So why were they pretending that they were good acquaintances now? Tang Moyu wanted to puke from the horrible acting they were displaying.
It was a good thing that she attended this event with Lu Tianxin. Too bad Gu Yuyao couldn't come with them, as she was busy checking the last stretch on her wedding preparation with Li Meili right now.
Lu Tianxin and Ye Xiaozu were busy conversing with other guests back at the banquet hall. Tang Moyu hoped that she wouldn't be needed there as she had already given her short speech earlier.
Tang Moyu leaned her shoulder on the wall as she looked outside, watching the media flocked around the area, taking photographs of celebrities arriving one by one.
"I didn't know this place was already taken." She suddenly heard a familiar masculine voice behind her. "You're still good at hiding, Moyu."
The empress glanced over her shoulder and saw Yun Zhen coming her way. Yun Zhen was wearing a dark blue retro suit that was surely customized and cost a fortune.
Being the Head of Yun Group after five years, since they last met, the empress could tell that time had been good to him. He still looked as dashing as she remembered.
She said nothing and continued to look outside.
"Still as cold as ever I see." Yun Zhen chuckled lowly, burying his hands inside the pockets of his pants as he followed her gaze outside.
"Is there something you need from me, President Yun?" Tang Moyu asked nonchalantly, her?gaze never leaving the commotion outside the building.
"Hn, I wonder if your promise still stands. It's been years, don't you think, Tang Moyu?" Yun Zhen said with a hint of familiarity, his eyes never leaving her beautiful face.
"Since when did you know?" The empress asked, turning her head to face him, her expression unreadable.
Yun Zhen smiled. This time, he was the one who broke their gaze.
"I know the moment I saw you five years ago. Unlike you, Moyu, my eyes can see perfectly well. I also don't forget things and people who hold value in my life."
There was a long silence between them as neither said a word to each other. Yun Zhen waited for her response, but it seemed like the empress was not interested in discussing it with him.
Tang Moyu wasn't sure why he brought up this topic with her. In fact, she'd long forgotten about it. But a promise is a promise, right? The empress was one who tried her best to fulfill her promises, but she didn't think she would be able to do it this time.
"I didn't think you would take my words seriously." She said with all honesty. In fact, thinking about it, Tang Moyu thought she wasn't thinking right when she made that promise.
And to think that Yun Zhen still remembered it to this day? Did he really believe that she would do what she promised him several years ago?
Tang Moyu didn't think that this germaphobe man would want to associate himself with her. Wasn't he afraid that people would misunderstand them? She was certain that Yun Zhen wouldn't hold it against her if she failed to fulfill her promise.
"They are here." She heard him say, pulling her out from her thoughts. Who? She wondered. Was he waiting for someone?
Her eyes followed his gaze and saw Feng Tianhua and Xing Yiyue alighting the car together, taking everyone's attention. Xing Yiyue smiled brightly and waved a hand towards the photographers who seemed to love her.
The couple posed for a few photographs while Xing Yiyue took her sweet time signing autographs for the crowd of fans that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Tang Moyu rolled her eyes at Xing Yiyue's too cheery persona. Didn't Feng Tianhua and her mother-in-law teach her how to act in public? She was obviously trying to be the center of attention.
"Madam Feng is really something." The empress heard the man beside her chuckle.
When Yun Zhen saw her confused expression, he laughed a little louder this time.
"Don't look at me like that, Moyu. You and I knew what happened that night. There's no way she isn't involved in it, right?"
"You knew and yet you still ask me if my promise still stands? I think you're the one who's really something here, Yun Zhen." Tang Moyu replied, her eyes narrowing at him.
Yun Zhen shrugged but his eyes were expressive, making the empress uncomfortable.
"Do you think you would be able to fend me off with a cheap trick like that?"
Tang Moyu shook her head then turned around, intending to leave.
"Yun Zhen, in this lifetime, I've only been interested in one man and that isn't you."
