Chapter 303 - If You Aren’t Our Daddy (1)
The little buns watched as their Uncle Yan and Uncle Number 2 left their home in a hurry. They still couldn't believe that they were able to find their real daddy and it was really Daddy Ji! How lucky!
"But what if we're not your babies?" Little Star suddenly asked, her tone a little solemn at the possibility that Daddy Ji wasn't their father.
Feng Tianyi smiled and patted her head lovingly.
"Does it matter? It wouldn't change anything that I love the two of you. But for the meantime, don't tell your mom about it, alright? We need to make sure first." He told her.
Xiao Bao and Little Star didn't want to lie to their mommy but they both understood that they needed to be sure first rather than to make her worry over nothing.
"But…" Little Star wanted to argue. Daddy Ji needed to be their daddy.
"Let's worry about that when the results come back, okay?" Feng Tianyi said, hoping to dispel the uneasiness in the young girl's heart. Even he wished that they were his.
"Okay…" The little girl agreed, knowing there's nothing else for them to do but to wait for the result of the test.
Feng Tianyi spent the whole day with them, playing all the games they could think of.
"Daddy, you aren't going to work today?" Xiao Bao held his ball and looked at Feng Tianyi with curiosity.
"En. Daddy's gonna play with you today." He grinned at the twins.
Hours later, it was already four in the afternoon when Feng Tianyi returned to the living room after taking a phone call on the porch. His eyes softening as he found the little buns curled next to each other on the couch, sleeping peacefully.
Smiling to himself, Feng Tianyi pulled out his phone again and snapped several pictures of the twins. His phone's gallery was already filled with their pictures, even before he suspected the paternity of the little buns. But the thought of having them as his children somehow warmed the devil's cold heart.
Was it a leap of blood he felt the first time he met these two at the cafeteria downtown? Was it the reason why he, Feng Tianyi, in spite of hating children, didn't feel indifference when he met Xiao Bao and Little Star?
Once he had enough pictures, Feng Tianyi sighed softly. He wasn't surprised that these two managed to knock themselves out of exhaustion. Not only did they tire themselves out, this day was also emotionally taxing for children like them.
Their heart must have already set to disregard the father who abandoned them and their mother and sought after him, not knowing that he might be the same father who'd been absent all their lives.
The thought made Feng Tianyi feel guilty. Regardless of what happened to him in the past, he shouldn't have abandoned the idea of finding the woman he spent the night with. Perhaps, if he persisted a little longer, he would be able to find out that it was Tang Moyu all along.
Feng Tianyi spread the sleeping mat the twins usually used during their naps. They probably wouldn't be comfortable on the couch, sleeping in that position. He slowly slid his arms under the little girl, taking her from the couch and gently placing her on the sleeping mat on the floor, making sure he didn't wake her up.
Little Star only made a small noise before curling on her side, wrapping her small arms on the bolster pillow Feng Tianyi placed on her side to make sure she wouldn't roll away from the sleeping mat.
Then it was Xiao Bao's turn to be moved. Just like he did to Little Star, Feng Tianyi slid his arms and hoisted the boy up, but this time, Xiao Bao cracked an eye open.
"D-daddy?" He mumbled.
"It's alright, Baobao. You can sleep more. I'll look after you and your sister." Feng Tianyi smiled softly at the little boy who rubbed his eyes.
"M-kay," Xiao Bao easily conceded but just like his twin sister, there's a question nagging on his mind. "Daddy?"
"Yes?" Feng Tianyi responded after placing the boy next to his sleeping twin sister.
"What if you aren't our daddy? Will you hate me and Little Star?"
The devil was stunned by the boy's question. Just where did he get the idea that he wouldn't want the two of them?
His hand reached out and lovingly rubbed his chubby cheek.
"Baobao, even if I'm not your daddy, I still love you and Little Star." He paused as he considered the possibility that they weren't his. "But if you aren't really mine, I promise I'll do my best to help you find your real daddy, if you want me to."
Xiao Bao shook his head and glanced at his twin sister.
"No, Daddy Ji." He said with finality. "If you aren't our real daddy, then we don't need to know or to find out who he is. You are our Daddy now and I'm sure Little Star would agree with me. We don't want another daddy if it isn't you."
These little buns keep on surprising him with their smart responses. He would be lying if he said he wasn't touched by the little boy's words.
"But I hope you are really our daddy." Xiao Bao admitted.
"Why is that?" Feng Tianyi pressed.
"Because you are nice." Xiao Bao yawned, indicating he was still sleepy. "And you looked like you really love our mommy. Little Star won't accept a daddy who doesn't love our mommy. Even if you are our real daddy but don't like Mommy, then… Little Star and I wouldn't press our mommy to find us a daddy."
"You really think that I love your mommy?" Could they really tell? Were children at this age aware of the treatments and feeling their parents had for each other?
Xiao Bao yawned again, his eyes starting to droop back into slumber.
"En…" He replied before he dozed off.
