Chapter 339 - Meng Yanran (1)
It had been months since Meng Yanran divorced her husband. The stupid son of a bitch had brought home his child from one of his mistresses and had forced her to accept the child as their own.
Whose wife in their sane mind would accept a child of their husband from another woman that easily? He must be trying to pull her leg!
Meng Yanran knew that it was hard for her to get pregnant as her cycles were never regular in the first place. Perhaps this was her punishment for being a greedy woman when she was younger.
Years ago she was dating her husband's nephew, Xu Wenyang, who ended up marrying her cousin from her paternal side, Lin Qianrou. She heard rumors that the two were madly in love with each other and her cousin had just given birth to their firstborn son.
Meng Yanran laughed at herself. She wanted to be envious of her cousin, but she couldn't. Her choices had brought her all of this. Now, she was a divorcee with no other means of living other than to rely on someone's help to survive.
Like every other socialite, she was raised and spoiled rotten by her father. It wasn't until their family business started to go bankrupt did Meng Yanran consider to marry the wealthier uncle of her boyfriend back then. Karma had caught up with her and bit her hard on the a.s.s.
"Miss Meng, do you mind watching the bar for a moment? We need to do some shopping for tonight's event." The owner of the bar she was currently staying at caught her attention.
"No problem, Madam Rong. This is the only thing I can do to help you anyway." Meng Yanran said as she wiped the counters clean with a washcloth in her hand. The heiress who had been pampered since she was young was now reduced to this. Those people who knew who she was would surely mock her if they knew what she was doing now.
"Oh no. Please don't say that Miss Meng. You've been a great help to me and my husband these days. You don't know how happy we are having you around."
Meng Yanran had left Guangzhou the moment she signed the divorce papers, effectively cutting her ties from her ex-husband. She didn't ask for alimony, something her mother had complained about. However, Meng Yanran knew her greed for wealth to secure her future had been the reason why her life ended up so f.u.c.k.e.d up. She could only blame herself for her stupidity back then.
For weeks, she had been on the road, driving nonstop without a destination on her mind. She spent her nights at hotels and resorts until she reached the limit of her credit cards. She scoffed as she thought of how her stupid ex-husband was for not realizing that she already maxed out the card he provided for her to use.
Thankfully, she had cashed out a decent amount from it and that amount supported her for a few more weeks until she could find a job to sustain herself. However, for someone who had never done any menial job in her life, Meng Yanran was at a loss. Unlike her cousin, Lin Qianrou, she didn't have any artistic streak or had been used to work for a living.
Even now, when she had dressed down in a simple blouse and skirt with an apron wrapped on her waist and hair tied in a low ponytail, Meng Yanran was looking stunning as she stood with elegance behind the counter. She looked out of place compared to the locals living in this rural town she'd chosen to stop by during one stormy night.
"Oh, Madam Rong. I can't thank you enough for letting me stay here with you." She had this faraway look the older woman had noticed, but didn't dare to ask about. "Don't worry, I'll look after the bar. Just go do what you need to do."
It was obvious that Meng Yanran had come from a wealthy family. Her clothes and mannerism spoke of wealth and high status. Her hands were smooth and her nails well manicured like a doll. Madam Rong was certain that Meng Yanran had ran away and hadn't done any hard work in her whole life.
She and her husband had allowed Meng Yanran to stay with them for as long as she wanted too. Even if she was wearing designer clothes, Meng Yanran looked like a child who was abandoned in a busy market by her parents.
"No one's looking for me. I don't even know what to do with my life anymore." Meng Yanran had said when they asked her where she was planning to go, travelling alone.
It was dangerous for someone like her to continue living like that, hence, Madam Rong and her husband took the woman in and let her work temporarily at their bar. They were already old and their children had all grown up and chose to live in cities far from them. They were lucky if they receive a phone call from them once a month,?most of the time nothing at all.
Madam Rong, who had never had a daughter, took pity on Meng Yanran and treated her like her own. Meng Yanran had been living with them for about three months now and most of their patrons were also fond of the beautiful woman.
She might be a socialite woman, but she had never complained or shown disgust towards any people she'd met so far. For the first time in her life, Meng Yanran realized that living a simple life and being humble was something that could give her a peace of mind.
When her father lost their company and died a year later, her mother had been scared to death worrying about?what would happen to the two of them. Since then, her mother had been breathing down her neck, trying to set her up with wealthy businessmen like she was some kind of a high end p.r.o.s.t.i.t.u.t.e.
