Chapter 395 - Lan Yunru (3)
"Huh? You don't have a daddy? How come?" Little Star asked Lan Yunru who was now fidgeting the edge of her shirt again.
"I don't know… I have never seen or met him. My mommy won't talk about him too." She responded.
"Oh just like me and Yu Gege before." Little Star blinked, while Baobao cast her a glance before shaking his head.
"But didn't you say you two have a daddy?" Lan Yunru was confused.
"Ah, that was before!" Little Star corrected herself. "When we came here with our mommy from New York, we didn't have a daddy, but my Yu Gege and I found him." She grinned widely, proud that she and her twin brother had hit the jackpot by taking a handsome uncle home for their mommy only to find out later that he was their real daddy!
"Really?" Lan Yunru's eyes widened in surprise. Was that even possible?
"En! Maybe you'll be able to meet your daddy too if you are lucky like me and Yu Gege. Your mommy might have a reason why she isn't telling you about him." Little Star affirmed.
Lan Yunru lowered her gaze, sadness apparent in her eyes. She only has a mommy, and unlike Little Star, she didn't have a brother or a sister to accompany her either. It had been so lonely staying at home, with only a nanny to accompany her while her mommy was busy at work and always coming home late at night.
Perhaps going to school wasn't a bad idea at all. Now, she had a new friend and classmates to play with.
"Do you really think I can meet my daddy too?" She asked Little Star in a low voice.
"I'm not sure." The younger Tang twin replied. "Maybe we were just lucky that we've met ours. But don't lose hope yet. My mommy said that it's a mommy's job to be worried about her babies, but that doesn't mean we should give them a reason to, right?"
Thinking about it, Lan Yunru also didn't want her mommy to be sad because of her. Her mommy was already having a hard time keeping her busy schedule and she didn't need to cause more trouble for her mommy.
"Okay. I'll listen to you." She nodded in agreement.
"If you are free this weekend, why don't you come and play with us? I usually visit Feiyu and Little Star on Saturdays to play with them. Their daddy cooks good food and their mommy is really pretty." Huo Yunhao suggested to her.
"Oh, I don't know about that." Lan Yunru then glanced at the Tang twins. "Is it really alright?"
"I don't think my mommy would mind. She said it's alright to bring friends home, but you must have permission from your mommy first before anything. My mommy would give your mommy a call to make sure she was okay with you staying with us." Little Star answered for her and her brother. She made a mental note to ask her mommy later once she was home. Didn't her mommy say that she needed to make friends?
"Okay, I will tell my mommy later." Lan Yunru made up her mind. She would stay awake no matter how late it was so she could talk to her mommy. Most of the time, she would already be asleep when her mommy comes home and they only talk via phone calls whenever her mommy has time to check on her.
Distantly, they heard their teacher calling out after Little Star and Baobao, telling them that their daddy had arrived and was waiting for them. Tang Feiyu's face lit up and immediately took his bag from the bench.
"We'll see you tomorrow, Yunyun~" Little Star hurriedly picked up her backpack and ran towards her brother, waving a hand to her new friend. "Don't forget to tell your mommy, okay?"
Lan Yunru blushed shyly and nodded in return. She waved goodbye to her new friends and sat down next to Huo Yunhao as they waited.
"So not only me and Feiyu, eh? Your mommy works too?" Huo Yunhao asked her. His speech was improving, courtesy of Tang Feiyu's help. Now, he was able to speak a few words to their classmates, though not as fluent as the Tang twins.
"En. My mommy works and comes home late." Lan Yunru replied. "But she's really nice and pretty too."
She made a promise to her mommy not to tell anyone what her work was. Lan Yunru couldn't even tell Little Star that her mommy frequently appeared on the television these days. Her mommy said it was for their own safety, so Lan Yunru didn't question her mother anymore.
"Yun'er, ready to go home?" Lan Yunru blinked, turning her head on one side when she heard her nanny's voice.
"En!" She beamed up a smile before waving goodbye to Huo Yunhao.
"So how was your first day of school?" She heard her nanny ask as they walked out the school compound.
"It was fun!" Lan Yunru answered. "I made some new friends."
"Oh?" Her nanny's eyes curved into crescents as she smiled back at the little girl. "Your mommy would be so proud of you, Yun'er."
"En! Little Star gave me chocolates, Auntie. Look!" She presented different kinds of chocolates with glee. They looked expensive and were ones that couldn't easily be bought from local supermarkets. "She said her daddy knows where to find the good ones and she was right."
Lan Yunru removed one from the wrappers and ate one. Her old nanny only laughed at her eagerness. At least the girl wouldn't sulk at home while waiting for her mother's return. The old woman took time to convince her mother to allow Lan Yunru to attend school, and it was all worth it seeing the little girl's smile today.
"Don't eat everything in one go, Yun'er." She said adoringly.
