Chapter 397 - Not Giving Her Face (2)
While Tang Moyu waited for the meeting to start, Zhang Wuying arrived early at Tang Enterprise to look for her son, who she hadn't seen for weeks. Since Tang Beixuan's return, he rarely showed himself to her and had refused to live with her at the Tang Estate.
Zhang Wuying could only assume that this was all Tang Moyu's doing to get even with her. The woman had been a pain in her a.s.s ever since the fallen empress returned. And now, nine months later, her name had regained its reputation she lost five years ago.
However, it was also clear that the Tang Moyu who came back from overseas was far from the puppet she had raised for years. Tang Moyu now had the audacity to talk back to her, giving her problems, one after another.
Finally, she found Tang Beixuan, working under the finance department as a regular office worker. Imagine Zhang Wuying's disappointment and rage when she heard that Tang Moyu assigned her little brother to the lowest rank instead of giving him a managerial position in the company.
Someone with an MBA on his name shouldn't be working like that, in Zhang Wuying's opinion. She didn't raise and allow Tang Beixuan to get his MBA abroad only to come home to be treated like this.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Tang Beixuan frowned once he heard from his colleagues say that someone was looking for him. He initially thought that Li Meili had come to give him a surprise visit, only to see his mother waiting outside in the hallway.
Zhang Wuying pulled his arm and brought him to a corner, out of everyone's earshot.
"I should be the one asking you such questions, Beixuan! What do you think you are doing? How could you let your sister treat you like this?" She complained in a low voice, her face sank as she noticed that Tang Beixuan didn't seem bothered by his current situation.
"Mom, what's wrong with being a regular employee? Moyu Jie is right. How can I be able to understand how our employees work when I have no idea how the company operates?"
"But isn't that why we sent you to school to learn?" Zhang Wuying countered.
"Mom, what I learned in school is different than when you are in an actual work environment." Tang Beixuan was starting to get annoyed with these constant bantering between him and his mother. They always argued about the same thing over and over again.
No wonder his Moyu Jie refused any invitation to sit with their mother, no matter how the latter insisted she should come home to Tang Estate to have a word with her. This was also the reason why Tang Beixuan chose to live on his own, away from their mother's influence.
As to why Elder Tang was allowing Zhang Wuying to poke her nose in their family business, Tang Beixuan had no idea. He also couldn't understand why their mother wanted to oust his sister, when in fact she was doing a great job keeping the family business afloat.
"You don't know your sister well, darling. I allowed you to study abroad to get an MBA degree so you can inherit the company." Zhang Wuying patted his arm gently, his smile faltering at her words.
"Now that your father is gone, the company is in a chaotic state. Look, your sister had betrayed you and took over the company. Beixuan, you would regret this later. It's not too late for you to demand your rightful place in the company from your sister."
Tang Beixuan didn't say anything in response and only looked at his mother like she was talking nonsense. If it was before, Tang Beixuan would have overlooked his mother's attempt, but right now, it was clear to him that she was trying to make him go up against his sister.
"Mother, please don't say that. She's my sister and she's a Tang. How could you say that to your own daughter?" He retorted.
Zhang Wuying had no idea that the three Tang siblings were already aware of the truth of their origins. As for Tang Beixuan, he was still clueless as to where he came from and how he ended up as a Tang, courtesy of this old woman.
He had no other lead to find out the truth about his parents except for Zhang Wuying. He could ask his Moyu Jie for help, but Tang Beixuan was aware that his sister had so many on her plate right now and wouldn't have time to help him even if she wanted to.
He needed to be discreet in this investigation. If Tang Lixue and Zhang Wuying weren't his parents, then who?
"She's not my daughter!" Zhang Wuying suddenly snapped out. "That woman will never be my daughter!"
For the first time, Tang Beixuan finally saw the unconcealed disgust their mother had against his sister. Judging by the old woman's reaction, it seemed that his Moyu Jie was correct. The reason why she was treated badly by their mother was because she was a daughter of their father from an old flame.
Still, Tang Beixuan didn't think it was fair for his sister to be treated that way. No child had a say in who was going to be their parents and they shouldn't suffer and take the blame for their parents' sins.
"Calm down, Mom. You wouldn't want rumors to spread around from your outburst." He said through his clenched teeth.
"Don't pretend you care about me, Beixuan. I could see that Moyu has already poisoned your mind and you aren't filial to me anymore. If you really don't want to see me worry, then quickly get started working to obtain what's truly yours so people wouldn't think of me as a joke for raising you as the next heir of the Tang family." Zhang Wuying insisted.
