Chapter 416 - To Be With You (2)
"I didn't know you also knew how to play a piano." Tang Moyu commented as she sat next to him on the bench facing the piano, his fingers hitting the keys with familiarity.
Feng Tianyi hummed and glanced at her face on the corner of his eyes. He was trying to see if she was getting bored, but there was no trace of it on her beautiful face.
"You don't know how? Your oh-so-great mother hasn't taught you?" He asked as his hands continued to play and moved over the keys of the grand piano they were facing.
Tang Moyu was too tired to continue dancing with him, so he opted to pull her by the arm and drag her to the vacant piano in the restaurant.
The notes coming from the piano had somehow eased the awkward tension between them. It sounded familiar to her ears.
As she looked at him, Tang Moyu noticed that the uneasiness on his face had already vanished. Now, he was content being there, sitting next to her. She had known that Feng Tianyi could be impulsive at times, but she had never seen him being jealous over someone.
She only shrugged at his question. Of course that old witch did. Zhang Wuying had made sure that she would be proficient, or at least capable, of doing basics so she wouldn't lose face in front of everyone once she became Feng Tianhua's wife.
The old woman had made sure that she neither slacked in her studies nor ignored her physical appearance as she grew up.
"It's been ages since I played one. I doubt I can remember any of it." She'll let him play for the two of them instead.
"Moonlight Sonata." Tang Moyu said as it dawned to her where she had heard the familiar tune. She heard Feng Tianyi laugh on her side. "You know all the three movements?"
Feng Tianyi cast her a challenging look.
"You doubt me? Of course, I do. You?"
She shook her head in response. For Tang Moyu, the Moonlight Sonata was a complicated piece and she was never able to complete the third movement.
Feng Tianyi continued to play, snatching Tang Moyu's full attention this time. Even the orc.h.e.s.tra, that had stopped playing moments ago, had stopped conversing with each other to see their guest playing the piano once they heard the familiar piece.
The first movement had an unspeakable mystery and tragedy, which finally resulted in rage in fury in the last movement. Those who had been able to finish listening to the devil's playing of the piece, including Tang Moyu, were amazed at how fast his hands could switch from one key to another.
"Should I teach you?" Tang Moyu heard him say moments later, when he was done with the third movement.
"To play? I know how to play Tianyi, but not as good as you. I've never been able to play this piece." She responded.
"Then how about another piece?" The devil continued to press her.
Tang Moyu looked down at the keys. It had been years since she played one, and unlike Feng Tianyi, she wasn't good at playing classic masterpieces.
"I can play another piece for you if you don't mind." She finally conceded, knowing that he wouldn't let her off easily.
"Then please…" Feng Tianyi stood up, allowing Tang Moyu to sit in front of the piano.
She rolled her sleeves up to her elbows and tested the tune of the row of keys before her fingers hovered over them and played a melodious tone that also sounded familiar to the devil and to those who were listening to her.
Then the empress started singing along the tune. Feng Tianyi was momentarily stunned when he heard her sing. This was the first time he had heard her melodious voice. What's more, Tang Moyu was singing in korean. He initially thought that she was only proficient on English and German, but it seemed like she had more in her arsenal.
It wasn't long before he realised that the contemporary piece Tang Moyu was playing actually had lyrics to accompany it. Her voice was smooth, clear and quiet, yet powerful. Soothing in a way that came as a welcomed surprise to the devil.
He couldn't recall a time when he had heard a person sing as beautifully as she did. It had a profound effect on him and a promise of tomorrow. It was beautiful and he wished that she would never stop.
Unlike his performance, Tang Moyu's playing was shorter and she was done even before Feng Tianyi noticed that the music had already stopped. It was only when he heard her question did he realize that she had been waiting for his reaction.
"Did you not like it? You are awfully quiet, Tianyi." The end of her lips turned down as she scowled at him, which he found endearing and cute at the same time. The empress was trying to win his approval? Now that was rare.
"I do like it." But when her eyes narrowed dangerously at him, Feng Tianyi sweatdropped. "I was too engrossed in your playing. I didn't even notice you were done." He defended himself under her scrutinizing gaze.
When she didn't say anything, but turned her head to look away, he smiled. His hand reached out to cup the side of her face as he leaned forward to kiss her cheek.
"That was amazing, Moyu. You keep on surprising me." He murmured next to her ear.
Tang Moyu only nodded and pretended that she wasn't happy with his praise. The empress would never admit that she wanted to gain his approval. Since Feng Tianyi was basically her first boyfriend and this was the first time she went on a romantic date, she was worried that her inexperience would make him unhappy.
