Chapter 440 - As Long as They Have Each Other (2)
"Will they be alright?" Meng Yanran asked. The three of them were actually her superior at Xiao Xing and she was mostly acquainted with Song Fengyan compared to Feng Tianyi and He Lianchen.
She only knew Feng Tianyi as the officer-in-charge at Xiao Xing and as Tang Moyu's lover. On the other hand, this was the second time she had met He Lianchen in person, but she could tell the three had a very close relationship with each other.
"They will be fine. As long as they have each other, they will be fine." Tang Moyu said before taking a sip from the newly brewed cup of tea her husband left for them.
Those three had been friends for years, and it's impossible for them not to overcome this problem Song Fengyan was currently facing. Tang Moyu could only hope that Lan Yunru would be spared from heartache once the truth was revealed.
Xu Wenyang had left the table and joined Li Meili and his wife in the living room, leaving the empress in Li Yuanyi and Meng Yanran's company.
Looking at her best friend's brother, Tang Moyu hoped that Li Yuanyi would make up his mind and just talk to Meng Yanran instead of pretending to be a good samaritan who refused to reveal his identity.
"Miss Meng, I suppose you already know Meili's brother. This is Li Yuanyi." She introduced the man instead.
Li Yuanyi almost choked on his tea when he heard the empress's words. He now understood why his little sister had easily got along with the empress. They surely know how to annoy the hell out of him!
Meng yanran smiled bashfully at Tang Moyu before glancing at Li Yuanyi.
"Actually, Miss Tang… I already know Mr. Li. We went to the same school when we were younger. He was our senior." She explained.
"Ohh…" Tang Moyu was at a loss for words at her statement. Li Meili had not mentioned much about Meng Yanran, other than the bits of detail she told her before.
Glancing at Li Yuanyi's stiff expression, she wondered what happened and why he never pursued Meng Yanran. Was it already too late for him though? Tang Moyu wondered.
While she was left in Meng Yanran's company, Feng Tianyi sat at the gazebo and waited for He Lianchen's report about Lan Xiyan and Lan Yunru.
As promised, Song Fengyan didn't attempt to confront his ex-lover regarding the supposedly child who appeared out of nowhere in his life.
He Lianchen pulled out his phone and read the contents of the preliminary background check they ran on the mother and child.
"Lan Yunru, age 4. Born on November 14. Registered mother: Lan Xiyan. Father is unknown. She was born prem.a.t.u.r.ely at seven months in Beijing." His eyes then swept a glance at Song Fengyan, who stilled on his seat, his mind blank as he listened to He Lianchen's report.
"November?" Feng Tianyi rubbed his chin. "Say, Fengyan. What month did you break up with Lan Xiyan?"
"End of June." Song Fengyan said in a low voice. Even the coldness of the night wasn't enough to numb the pain in his heart. The information only heightened the possibility of Lan Yunru being his child.
Song Fengyan had been mourning for his child for years, and now, after finding out about Lan Yunru's existence, he wanted to scream at how unfair his life was.
Years ago, he only wanted to propose to Lan Xiyan, but what surprised him was the receipts she had left on her purse from the hospital where she supposedly aborted their child.
He had slapped her out of rage, but he deeply regretted hurting her once his anger subsided. He went back to their shared apartment, only to find her along with her things gone, completely out of his life.
"I did what you told me, Tianyi, and I'm glad you said it. There was an usual transaction that came in and out of Lan Xiyan's account a month before her father died in a surgery."
"Where did the money come from?" The devil asked.
"Not where, but who." He Lianchen corrected him before passing the phone for Feng Tianyi to see the statement of account his private investigators had managed to obtain.
Feng Tianyi's eyes narrowed when his eyes caught a familiar name of a company printed on it.
"I see…" He hated it when he knew he was right. It wasn't just a simple case of breakup. Someone had instigated and forced Lan Xiyan to leave his cousin.
"What is it?" Song Fengyan's voice came a little too rough. He needed to know what else had Lan Xiyan hid from him.
Feng Tianyi and He Lianchen looked at each other before the devil passed the phone to his cousin.
"See to yourself and tell us why in the world would your elder sister's company just deposit three million dollars into Lan Xiyan's personal account."
Song Fengyan furrowed his brows and snatched the phone from the devil's hands. What did his elder sister have to do with it?
He and his sister hadn't spoken to each other for a long time due to their differences, so naturally he would never expect Song Xingji would get between him and Lan Xinyan.
His eyes widened at the familiar name printed on Lan Xiyan's account statement and his hands shook when he finally realized what could have happened.
Lan Xiyan's troubled expression in the last weeks she'd been with him. Her unusual silence… the sleepless nights where she couldn't stay in bed next to him.
Song Fengyan hated that she was willing to throw away the years they were together.
Did he mean nothing to her? Was her love so cheap that she was willing to sell him for only three million dollars?
Anyway, what happened between him and Lan Xiyan couldn't be fixed by a simple apology. He could only hope that Lan Yunru didn't inherit the golden blood from him.
