Chapter 444 - Selling the Empress (2)
The empress was glad that she was able to secure and register her marriage with Feng Tianyi yesterday. So, no matter how the Tang family pressured her to marry Yun Zhen, or any other man they deemed being useful for the family, Tang Moyu wouldn't be able to fulfill their wish as she was already married in the eye of the law herself.
She could already imagine how disappointed Zhang Wuying would be because she ruined her plans again. Tang Moyu refused to become like the other daughters of the Tang family, whose only known purpose in life was to be married off to other wealthy families to establish the Tang family's connection with them.
The empress refused to lower herself like that. She would never bet her happiness on a man that her own family had chosen for her to fulfil their own greedy d.e.s.i.r.es. She learned her lesson when Feng Tianhua betrayed her and ruined her reputation for another woman.
"Moyu, please be nice to our guest." Elder Tang said before leaving her alone with President Yun, while Zhang Wuying gave her a curious look and smiled to herself. In the end, the empress was nothing but a woman that could be sold off to a willing man for a fair price.
Tang Moyu hardened her jaw and led Yun Zhen to the sitting room where they could talk privately. She lounged on the couch and rested her head lazily on one hand.
"Talk." She demanded Yun Zhen, who took a seat on the other side of the couch, looking at her curiously. He had spotted the diamond ring on her ring finger earlier and he couldn't help but feel troubled about it.
A rumor reached his ear and said she was spotted in a hotel late at night with her ex-fiance's brother, Feng Tianyi. Yun Zhen never thought that the empress was acquainted with the devil.
"Don't overthink, Moyu. It's your grandfather who invited me today. He wanted to hear from me if the rumors about us are true or not." He said.
"If you really want to help me, you should help me explain to them that there's nothing to it. You aren't really pushing this, are you?" The empress replied nonchalantly.
"Does it? What if I really want you, Tang Moyu?" President Yun dared her.
Tang Moyu cracked an eye open and gave him a pointed look.
"I thought that I've already made it clear that I'm not interested to be with you. At. All."
Yun Zhen let out a low laugh at the remark.
"You are really ruthless when it comes to me, Moyu."
"Tang Moyu." The empress said flatly. "We are only business partners, President Yun. Please don't forget. We are neither friends nor enemies."
"Why are you telling me this?" Yun Zhen frowned. It seemed that the empress had made up her mind and he wouldn't be able to change it no matter how hard he tried.
"Because I want to spare you from unnecessary heartache and drama, Yun Zhen. Stay away from the Tang family. You don't need to trouble yourself, trying to win me over."
Yun Zhen fell silent. He looked at the ground as if he would be able to find the answers he needed there. This wasn't the first time the empress denied him, but he wasn't willing to raise the white flag yet.
If someone asked him what was the biggest regret he had in his life, Yun Zhen would say that he wasn't able to save the woman he swore with his heart to protect.
"Is it really impossible for me to win your heart?" He asked, out of the blue, catching the empress off guard.
Tang Moyu recovered a moment later and pressed her lips together. She wondered how many times she needed to turn Yun Zhen down before he understood that they could never be.
"My heart, you cannot have it. I've already given it to someone else for safekeeping." She said with all honesty.
Yun Zhen opened his mouth to say something, but he was already at a loss from what Tang Moyu confessed to him. There was no hesitation in her eyes. In fact, he could only sense a hint of contentment in them.
He lowered his head and laughed to himself. So in the end, another man had already taken his dream woman. Another man had already won her heart and she wouldn't allow anyone to get between them.
"Did he know about what happened to you five years ago? Was he able to accept everything that happened?" What he meant were the children that resulted due to that fateful night.
Tang Moyu glanced away and remained silent for a moment, pondering how she should answer that. Of course Feng Tianyi knew. In fact he was the same man she had ended up spending the night with. She hadn't discussed it with Feng Tianyi yet and she wasn't willing to let the public know about her little buns.
In the end, she could only confirm it to Yun Zhen. The man deserved to know her answer and why they could never be together. In her heart, Tang Moyu knew that there were things she still couldn't understand, but she was sure of what she felt for the devil.
"Yes, he knew and he accepted it. All of it. It wasn't easy, but we are trying to work it out."
The empress pulled herself back to her feet and took her belongings with her.
"If there's nothing else to discuss, please excuse me, President Yun." She bid him goodbye, effectively turning down Yun Zhen. As Feng Tianyi's wife, she cannot allow this issue to drag on any longer.
"What if I tell you that I know what happened that night?" He suddenly said, stopping Tang Moyu in her tracks.
Yun Zhen lifted his head. Complex emotions flitted through his heart, but his face remained calm on the surface.
"What if I tell you I'm the father of your twins? Will you consider me, Tang Moyu?"
