Chapter 456 - Lan Xiyan Betrayed You (1)
Since the couple were in a meeting with Yang Huan that afternoon, Feng Tianyi had called his cousin Song Fengyan to ask for favor of picking up the little buns from their kindergarten.
"Fengyan, are you busy?" He asked, as he glanced at his wife, who was conversing with his godfather as they followed the old man to the publishing company, he was trying to catch up with the two.
Yang Huan was asking Tang Moyu some questions, which the empress easily answered. Because Feng Tianyi had lost track of time, they would be able to pick up the twins on time from their school even if they decided to leave now.
"No, I'm still at home why? Is there any problem?"
"If you aren't busy, can you pick up Baobao and Little Star? Moyu and I are with Uncle Yang right now and we wouldn't be able to get to them on time." Feng Tianyi explained, completely forgetting the possibility that his cousin might see Lan Yunru or her mother along the way.
"Fine. I'll be there soon." Song Fengyan said blankly before glancing at the time. He would be just in time if he hurried.
He pulled his coat, took his keys and drove off. However, because of the bad traffic leading to the kindergarten, Song Fengyan came a little later than what he expected. By the time he reached the kindergarten, he found the little buns sitting inside their classroom, with Lan Yunru next to Little Star.
He was momentarily shocked upon seeing the girl. How could he forget that Lan Yunru was in the same class as the little buns?
"Feixiu, Feiyu, your uncle is here for you!"
Since this wasn't the first time she'd seen Song Fengyan, she already knew that he was related to the Tang twins.
"Uncle Yan!" Little Star beamed a smile and ran towards him with glee when she spotted him at the doorway.
"Did you come here to pick us up? Where's my Mommy and Daddy?" She demanded as Song Fengyan lifted her up from the ground while Xiao Bao took his and his twin sister's bags from the floor and picked up their things to stuff inside their bags.
"They're running a little late. They are meeting with someone, so your Daddy asked me to get you and Xiao Bao." He lightly pinched his niece's cheek earning a light frown from the little girl.
"Uncle, don't pinch too hard!" Little Star chastised him. "My cheek will sag and I will be ugly if you keep on pinching it!"
Song Fengyan entered the room and placed his niece down before helping his nephew tidy up their things. He then glanced at Lan Yunru, who was looking at him with curiosity. She was wearing the same uniform Little Star was donning, but her hair was tied up in braids.
"Hello, Uncle Yan." She said shyly, and Song Fengyan felt his heart clenched painfully in his c.h.e.s.t. What would he give just to hear his daughter call him daddy? He had been yearning for it ever since they managed to confirm that she was truly his, the child he thought was dead, the child he had mourned for these past few years.
"Hi, Yun'er. Your nanny isn't here to pick you up yet?" He asked.
As he looked at his daughter, he noticed that she looked paler than usual. Was she sick? Song Fengyan prayed in his heart that she didn't have the golden blood like him.
Because those who had were susceptible to frequent anemia. Good thing the empress and the devil were very particular about what the little buns were eating, and had diligently been giving them supplements to prevent it.
Lan Yunru shook her head, her lips turned down.
"No, Uncle. My Auntie Yu is sick and wouldn't be able to get me, so my mommy is coming here to pick me up instead." She replied with innocent eyes, looking at Song Fengyan.
Song Fengyan stiffened at that. It seemed that his meeting with Lan Xiyan was bound to happen whether he liked it or not. Since Lan Yunru was now in the picture, he cannot pretend that he and Lan Xiyan had nothing to do with each other anymore.
He came back to his senses, but his gaze continued to linger at Lan Yunru, who resumed playing with Little Star.
"Uncle, is it alright if we wait for Yunru's mommy before we go home? Little Star doesn't want to leave her on her own."
Despite the inner turmoil he was having at that moment, Song Fengyan smiled and patted the little boy's head.
"S-sure." He wanted to avoid unnecessary drama, but he and Lan Xiyan needed to have a talk about their child. Of course, Song Fengyan also didn't have the heart to leave Lan Yunru on her own.
The three cousins continued to play while Song Fengyan sat against the wall, waiting for Lan Xiyan's arrival. Was she really coming here today? How would he explain to him that he already knew the truth about Lan Yunru?
A few minutes later, Lan Yunru tugged at Song Fengyan's sleeve to get his attention.
"Uncle Yan, I'm hungry." Lan Yunru told him and his heart melted.
"Me too, Uncle Yan!" Little Star chimed in, patting her small tummy. "I'm hungry."
Hearing the two little girls' complaints, their homeroom teacher excused herself to find something the children could eat while waiting.
"Uncle Yan, I still have an apple in my lunch bag. Mommy put it in there!" Little Star exclaimed when she remembered it. She hurriedly took her small bag and pulled out a huge apple.
"Ahh, I need to cut this." Song Fengyan said before asking the homeroom teacher if they had a peeling knife he could use. Fortunately, they have one, so he was able to peel and cut the apple into small pieces, which the little buns and Lan Yunru could eat without a problem.
