Chapter 465 - Tang Lixue’s Pride (2)
Tang Lixue had always felt guilty towards his only daughter, Moyu, knowing that he hadn't been a good father to her. He also knew that in Moyu's heart, he was just a stranger. Father in name, but a useless one.
Tang Lixue admitted that he really owed Moyu too much. If it was just him, he would never marry his fiance, Zhang Wuying. Perhaps if he'd been careful, his beloved as well as Moyu's twin brother would still be alive now.
Their marriage was one of convenience, and he never felt any love towards her. Not to mention that he had already fallen in love with Yan Qiuyu and had decided to dissolve his engagement with Zhang Wuying.
Alas, the Zhang family wouldn't easily let him and the Tang family off. His predecessor had made a bad investment, leaving the Tang Enterprise experiencing cash flow problems at the time, almost risking bankruptcy.
His father forced him to marry Zhang Wuying, while his mother cried, begging him to reconsider his options. But at that time, Yan Qiuyu was already pregnant with his twins. How would he be able to abandon his beloved in such a delicate state?
Elder Tang understood his own son. Tang Lixue was a stubborn person. Once he decides on someone, it will be for a lifetime. It was just a pity that he fell in love with a commoner, who can offer nothing to him and the Tang family.
Tang Lixue had no other choice but to break up with his pregnant lover in tears. He didn't want to be separated from her, from them… but Yan Qiuyu had insisted that her children wouldn't be safe if they remained in the city and she decided to return with them to her hometown.
He begrudgingly married Zhang Wuying, but made it clear that he would never share his bed with her and she could only be his wife in name. He never bothered to spend time with his new wife since he needed to to save the Tang family's business.
Tang Lixue spent the days he was separated from his little family busy at work everyday, leaving no time for his wife. When he heard Yan Qiuyu had given birth to a pair of twins, he'd been ecstatic.
His first born was a girl born, with the same shade of hair and eyes as Yan Qiuyu, while the younger twin was a boy, who inherited more aspects from the Tang family. Regardless of his relationship with their mother, Tang Lixue insisted that they should bear his family name. He swore in his heart that they would only have them as his heirs.
"Tang Lixue! Why are you doing this to me? I'm your wife! You are deluded if you think that I'll divorce you so that you can marry your mistress and be with your bastards!" Zhang Wuying yelled at him, but he only shrugged at her words. He knew it wouldn't be easy for him to force this crazy woman to divorce him, not when she had a strong family backing her up.
"Do as you wish. Just stay away from me. I have nothing to do with you." He said, turning his back on her, ignoring the curses and insults that had followed.
Tang Lixue didn't care how his family perceived him. Now that he had twins, he made sure to make time to travel and see them once in a while, hoping for a day that he would never be parted from them.
Alas, his happy days came to a sudden end when a tragedy fell on his small family. It was a sudden curveball that he never expected to occur. Tang Lixue had lost his strength the moment he heard the news of Yan Qiuyu and his son's death. Stabbed to death in the middle of the night.
He didn't know how he was able to force himself to fly and to see it with his own eyes. Grief and sadness washed through him as he held Yan Qiuyu's cold hand as he wept helplessly beside her lifeless body. He didn't even look at his dead son's body for too long, but it had been enough to torture him in the following years.
To lose what he cherished the most in a blink of an eye, Tang Lixue felt like his world had come crashing down. He had no one to blame but himself. If things hadn't ended up as messed up as it did, he wouldn't have to abandon Yan Qiuyu and his children.
"Mr. Tang?"
In the hallway of the hospital, Tang Lixue lifted his head and looked blankly at the person who called him. An old woman came forward with a confused little girl staring at her with her round brown eyes. His daughter.
"M-Moyu…" He was frozen in place. His daughter's scared and curious face painfully reminded him of his beloved.
The toddler in the old woman's arms had no idea what terrible thing had just happened. Tang Lixue accepted his daughter from the old woman and they were left alone together.
"Do you miss your mommy?" He asked. His eyes brimmed with tears as he held his daughter tightly, while his heart had been shattered into a million pieces because of his own carelessness.
His daughter said nothing in response, and only dozed off against his c.h.e.s.t. Tang Lixue looked at her sleeping face, guilt filling his entirety. His Little Moyu was so cute, so beautiful, just like her mother, but she never smiled at him, not even once since the first time he'd seen her.
"Moyu, mommy and Lingjun won't be coming home with us. We only have each other from now on. Daddy will take you from here." It pained him to know that he'd lost his beloved and other child. He only had Moyu now.
He decided then that he would find the ones responsible for murdering Yan Qiuyu and his son. He wouldn't stop until he was able to send those people to the afterlife.
