Chapter 466 - Tang Lixue’s Pride (3)
Obviously, the Tang family, especially the Zhang family, vehemently went against Tang Lixue's wish to take in his daughter as part of the family. The Yan family had no interest in raising his daughter and Tang Lixue couldn't just abandon his daughter while he sought revenge on those who harmed his family.
His estranged wife had taken in a girl and let her bear the Tang surname, then why the hell wouldn't they let his little Moyu join the family? Eventually, they had no other choice but to allow Tang Moyu to live with them temporarily.
He and Zhang Wuying were trapped in a deadlock for years, and hadn't seen eye to eye with each other. He knew that she despised his daughter and couldn't accept the fact that she'd been forced to accept his daughter from another woman to save face. Zhang Wuying, a prideful woman like her, would never allow her reputation to be tarnished by Tang Moyu's existence.
This was the only condition Elder Tang enforced on him in exchange for them to accept Tang Moyu in the family. However, their impression about his daughter had started to change when Moyu reached four years old.
Her quiet and cold temperament was the perfect replica of him, while her cute face was enough to stun the hearts of those people who saw her at first glance. There was even this one time, an insolent little boy had attempted to kidnap his Little Moyu, much to Tang Lixue's chagrin.
Just remembering that boy who dared to trick his little girl irked the hell out of him. If he could, Tang Lixue would teach that boy a good lesson for daring to corrupt his Little Moyu's mind.
Tang Lixue prided that her daughter was a rare prodigy that hadn't been seen for generations in the family. However, his relationship with his daughter wasn't good at all. Perhaps it was because work had consumed most of his time that he barely had time to check on how she was faring.
He had neglected his daughter and allowed Elder Tang and Zhang Wuying to raise her. He didn't know what Zhang Wuying was telling Moyu, but from a young age, his daughter had never been close to him and treated him as a stranger.
Even if he was home, he was too exhausted to face another argument and holed himself up in his study, avoiding his wife, who wouldn't let him divorce her. Zhang Wuying was causing him a lot of distress. He wanted so much to be separated from her, but he had no other choice to proceed with this marriage.
During those rare days that he was home, he had to wait for night to fall before he was able to sneak into his daughter's room and watch after her until dawnbreak. His little girl was growing too fast and yet here he was, too consumed by his drive to find the culprit behind her mother and brother's death while trying to keep the company afloat.
Because of his prolonged absence in his daughter's life, the relationship between father and daughter had been estranged from the beginning. It also didn't help that Moyu's face only brought sadness to him whenever he saw her.
Since he and Zhang Wuying had never consummated their marriage, as Tang Lixue's only child, Tang Moyu was named as the next successor of the family. It added more reason why he and his wife often argued.
His insolent wife had even gone as far as convincing his family to allow his precious daughter to be betrothed to Feng Zuyi's bastard son. It would have been better if his Little Moyu had been betrothed to the first young master of the Fengs, but Tang Lixue immediately rejected the thought.
No man would be worthy enough to have his daughter's hand for marriage!
He wanted his Little Moyu to lead the life she wanted and for her to never be pinned down by anyone unlike him! He might be fighting a losing battle against his own family and the Zhangs, but there would be a day that they will be dead meat, sooner or later.
His little girl was able to speak three foreign languages, albeit not fluently at the age of four. At six, his Little Moyu had already mastered basic multiplication and division at her young age. Tang Lixue also found out her disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e of music lessons that were enforced on her.
In front of other people, he was always proud of her, but towards his daughter, Tang Lixue was lost on how he should deal with her. These were the rare times that he hoped Yan Qiuyu was alive and with him. She would certainly know how to deal with their daughter.
Elder Tang checked his son's study for the last time before leaving the Tang Estate. He'd avoided this place since his son died from cancer. He didn't understand back then why he didn't want to get treatments. It was as if Tang Lixue couldn't wait to die sooner.
When Tang Lixue was diagnosed with cancer years ago, he refused to get treatments and allowed his sickness to spread. However, he made sure to make preparations before his death. He wouldn't leave his only daughter behind with nothing.
His resentment to his family remained, even though years had passed between them and only rose to peak when he heard how the Tang family and his wife kicked his daughter out after her nasty fallout with Feng Tianhua.
The pictures of Tang Moyu from toddler, to competitions she joined and won, rehearsals that she begrudgingly attended, up until she joined Feng Conglomerate were kept neatly in one of the photo albums on the bookshelf next to the huge window of the room.
"They say you were a terrible father, but they never know how much you yearn to be a decent one." The old man started to talk to himself as he placed the photo book back on the shelf.
