Chapter 536 - Unforgivable (2)
Zhang Jiren was nervously waiting for the private investigator to arrive at their meeting place. It had been two weeks since he met the young empress personally and he was eager to know the truth about Yan Qiuyu and how he was related to her.
He arrived at the cafe an hour earlier. He was eager to find out the truth, no matter how bad it was.
He tuned out the sounds around him as he thought about his next steps after this. What if he was really Yan Qiuyu's son? And why was Tang Moyu's striking features resemble that woman?
It didn't take long for him to wait, as the person he hired to run a background check on Yan Qiuyu came right on time and handed him a thick manila envelope that would confirm or deny his suspicion over his identity.
"Everything I could find out about Yan Qiuyu is in here. I can say her sudden death was quite suspicious, in my opinion. Some of the details don't match. It didn't make any sense." The old private investigator told him.
Zhang Jiren stared wide-eyed on him. He had already suspected that Yan Qiuyu might be dead, but to hear such information, he wasn't sure how he should take the news.
He swallowed the invisible lump in his throat and opened the envelope. For the first time in his life, Zhang Jiren spent an enormous amount of money for this thing, but he didn't care.
There was nothing more important than finding out about his real identity and who his biological parents were.
As he took out the papers and scanned the details on the papers, he read the basic information about Yan Qiuyu. The second page entailed her family relations, which told Zhang Jiren that this woman had given birth to a pair of twins eighteen years ago.
This… how could this be possible?
Zhang Jiren gripped the paper tightly on his hands. He couldn't stop the shiver that ran down his spine.
"So this Yan Qiuyu is Tang Lixue's lover? Tang Moyu isn't my aunt's daughter?" He asked the man sitting across him.
"Most likely." The man nodded. "During their time together, Tang Lixue made several attempts to break his betrothal with Zhang Wuying, but he failed each time. Even now, there are rumors about Tang Moyu not being Zhang Wuying's daughter and is suspected to be a child from Tang Lixue's lover, but the Tang family kept in under the wraps."
Tang Moyu wasn't Aunt Wuying's child? Zhang Jiren covered half of his face with one hand as he stared at the photo of the smiling Yan Qiuyu in the picture included on the report.
That would make sense to him. No wonder his aunt treated Tang Moyu unjustly and was able to say nasty words against the young empress.
The last page indicated Yan Qiuyu's death, and like what the private investigator said, there were missing details on it.
He also didn't miss the date of Yan Qiuyu's death. It was a day before he was brought into the orphanage. In the report, it was stated that the younger twin brother was also killed with her.
The more he thought about how unfair his life and Tang Moyu's was, the more the rage in his heart rose.
Zhang Jiren laughed at the absurdity of his life and how fate was too cruel for him and Tang Moyu.
He'd always thought that his family didn't want him and abandoned him. Now, he knew that wasn't the case.
If he was right, the younger twin brother of Tang Moyu that should have been dead along with Yan Qiuyu was none other than him.
Wasn't this what Zhang Xianzhe had said in his drunken state? That he was able to save Yan Qiuyu's son but not her daughter?
Still, was throwing him in the orphanage, tearing him away from his father and twin sister was the right thing to do?
Zhang Jiren's eyes were rimmed red. It was the Tang family and the Zhang family who'd taken everything from him! Zhang Wuying even went as far as bullying his twin sister!
Unforgivable! Unforgivable!
He couldn't imagine the pain and sorrow Tang Lixue had to endure, losing his lover and his son at the same time. Tang Lixue had no idea that he survived and was now living as a Zhang.
Zhang Jiren, who had always been calm and preferred to have a peaceful outlook in life, couldn't contain the rage that was now flowing through his veins. He felt betrayed by everyone and deceived by the family that raised him.
What pained him the most was knowing that his twin sister had been enduring everything on her own. The sorrow she felt as she grew up, being played and deceived by Zhang Wuying.
"Mr. Zhang, are you okay?" The private investigator asked him, bringing him back to reality.
Mr. Zhang? What Mr. Zhang? There was no doubt that he wasn't Zhang Jiren, because he was Tang Lingjun all these time!
"I'm fine. Thank you for your cooperation. The bill has been settled, so I'll go now." He said before turning to leave, leaving the private investigator confused by his actions.
When Zhang Jiren came home and went to his bedroom, he read the report for the last time, confirming his assumptions about his origin, before burning the evidence one by one.
His eyes stared blankly at the papers that were being devoured by the fire.
