Chapter 608 - Moving Forward (3)
Meanwhile, the man Tang Moyu and Li Meili were talking about was busy, neck-deep in his own work inside his office. This was a usual day for Zhang Jiren, and he wasn't expecting a peaceful day that would come to him at the rate he was going.
His schedule for this month was fully packed, not giving him enough time for himself. He was starting to wonder why some people aimed to become a CEO or a president of a huge company like Zhang Corporation. If he had a chance, he would rather choose a simpler life than this. However, he also had to admit that he admired those people who could balance their career and private life like his twin sister, Tang Moyu.
Ah, it had only been days since he last saw his sister and Little Star, but the need to see them again was getting stronger each day passed. Zhang Jiren knew he shouldn't raise suspicion from the Zhang family, but Tang Moyu and her children were the only family he had in this world. He wasn't sure if he would have a chance to meet them anytime soon after the inauguration banquet of Xiao Xing.
The Zhang family still had no idea that he was protecting Tang Moyu from afar. Ever since the empress's return, he made sure not to oppose Tang Enterprise during her reign at the management. He simply avoided making trouble against his twin sister, and thankfully, his impeccable performance had clouded and diverted Zhang Xianzhe's attention from Tang Enterprise.
Anyway, if his twin sister had chosen to remain in New York, Zhang Jiren was willing to destroy Tang Enterprise on his own after he was done with Feng Tianhua. Touching Tang Enterprise so soon would also put him in suspicion, and Zhang Jiren wasn't quite ready yet to reveal his real identity to the whole world.
Zhang Wuying could only blame herself later. She should have made sure that he was dead decades ago along with his mother. If the Zhang family lost everything, they had no other people to blame but themselves. In fact, money and the Zhang family's destruction would never be enough to compensate for what Zhang Jiren and Tang Moyu lost before.
Still, this didn't mean the Tang twins wouldn't be able to move forward. Hadn't Tang Moyu proven that she didn't need the Tang family or the Tang Enterprise to get what she wanted? In the end, the family that had repeatedly forsaken her ended up living in poverty now.
However, this would never be enough for her and Zhang Jiren, especially when the one responsible for their mother's death was still out there, living freely. Zhang Jiren wasn't sure how much Tang Moyu knew by now, but he'd suspected that the sudden move by the empress to sell out Tang Enterprise might have been triggered by something.
"Boss, as per your request, we stationed men to look after Miss Tang and her children," he reported to Zhang Jiren.
Liu Kai didn't understand why his boss was so invested recently in the fallen empress of Shenzhen. Was his boss enamored by Tang Moyu? Liu Kai didn't think so, but he couldn't think of any reasons or any motives why Zhang Jiren was keeping an eye on her.
"And?" Zhang Jiren asked without breaking his focus from the paperwork he was doing.
Liu Kai cleared his throat and felt a cold sweat forming on the side of his face.
"Tang Moyu is being tailed." He reported, instantly and effectively halting Zhang Jiren from whatever he was doing at that moment. Liu Kai had somehow expected this reaction from his boss, which confused the hell out of him.
Zhang Jiren slapped the pen against his desk, his eyes narrowing sharply. F.u.c.k. He really hated it sometimes when his instincts were right. The moment his sister's marriage to the devil was known to the public, he knew that he needed to do something.
"Who is it?" He asked at once while cursing Feng Tianyi repeatedly in his mind. He couldn't blame anyone at the moment, but the devil who put his sister and the twins in the spotlight.
This was something he considered that might happen after Feng Tianyi announced his marriage with Tang Moyu. Obviously, the devil wasn't a good man, and he made a lot of enemies in the past. It was only natural that those people he wronged would view Tang Moyu and their children as weaknesses on Feng Tianyi's part.
As a precaution, Zhang Jiren had sent some of his trusted men to tail after his sister. If something bad happened to Tang Moyu and the twins, he would hold Feng Tianyi liable in the future.
Tang Moyu and her little buns had just come back to Zhang Jiren's life, and he refused to allow them to get hurt again—under his watch. He didn't care if he needed to play the role of the villain as long as the past wouldn't repeat itself. He failed Tang Moyu once, but this time, he would protect her from everyone—even from her own husband.
"We couldn't identify their identities yet, Boss. Give us some time. We are already working on it," Liu Kai said nervously. Were the air conditioners turned up too high today, or the temperature inside Zhang Jiren's office had always been this low?
Zhang Jiren nodded, his eyes flashing with a coldness that was comparable to what Tang Moyu could harness.
"Don't leave them out of sight. Apprehend them if you have a chance, and don't let Tang Moyu know she was being followed. The less she knows, the better."
"Yes, Boss!" Liu Kai accepted his orders and left Zhang Jiren on his own inside the office.
Zhang Jiren leaned forward and rested his forehead against the back of his clasped hands.
"Mom, Dad. I'll protect Moyu Jie this time. I won't fail again."
