Chapter 617 - Compensation (3)
This wasn't the first time for Tang Moyu to be here in Feng Tianhua's place. Several times before, she had paid a visit here with her 'mother' in the past. During those visits, she was only allowed to look around the courtyard house and the garden; she was never allowed to see past the high railings that separated the place from the ancestral house of the Feng family.
As she now stood in front of the mansion next to her husband, Tang Moyu wondered if this was the place where Feng Tianyi lived after his parents divorced. His past was something she didn't dare to question, the same with him never asking her about the abuse she suffered from Zhang Wuying.
She knew that she and Feng Tianyi didn't have many good memories from childhood so they were currently treading carefully when it came to Xiao Bao and Little Star. They didn't want them to suffer from the same thing their parents had in the past. As their parents, it was Feng Tianyi and Tang Moyu's responsibility to make sure their little buns were provided properly and safe from harm, even if from their relatives.
"Master Tianyi, welcome back." An old butler, who seemed already in his seventies, welcomed the couple.
"Old man. So you are still here…" Feng Tianyi smiled genuinely this time. "Moyu, this is Butler Ji. He's the one in charge of the Feng Estate since I was young. He's also the one who raised me and looked after me when my mother isn't around.
"Pleased to meet you, Sir. I'm Tang Moyu," the empress said, giving the old man a firm handshake.
This was the same old man that raised him while his own father had chosen his mistress and his bastard over him and his mother. Feng Tianyi couldn't help but feel moved that, in spite of him running away from this place, there were still people like Old Man Ji that were still waiting for his return.
The old man laughed before turning to greet Tang Moyu.
"It's good that you are able to bring the newest lady of the house, Master Tianyi. Welcome, Madam. We're expecting your arrival today." He told the empress, his eyes giving her a good look, pleased that his young master had managed to find a woman he could get along with.
Tang Moyu was certainly different from the other women Butler Ji had met in the past. Her name and reputation within the business community alone were enough to make them run for their money. Her warm smile as she greeted him made Butler Ji feel like this dreary day became brighter.
Feng Tianyi helped Butler Ji to go inside the Feng Mansion. With his old age, the butler should have retired a long time ago, but he insisted on working, intending to spend the rest of his life serving the Feng family.
Aside from Uncle Yang whom she had met before, this was the second time Tang Moyu saw her husband being respectful to his elders. To some people, he might be the devil, but for those who knew him growing up, he was a boy who was abandoned and betrayed by his selfish father.
As they joined the old man for late lunch, Tang Moyu paid attention to how her husband acted around the old butler who he respected the most.
"Old man, the reason Moyu and I came here is to let you know that we are moving here. I know this is so sudden, and you might need to make arrangements in a short span of time," Feng Tianyi told the old man.
"No, it's alright. I'm sure most of our people are eager to know that you are coming back. We keep everything tidy and neat here while you aren't around because we know you will eventually come home." Butler Ji held his cane, the wrinkles on his face becoming more prominent as he laughed. "When are you planning to move back?"
"In about two weeks. I'm just waiting for that woman and Feng Tianhua to leave my property. I don't want them spoiling my wife and my children's mood by just looking at their faces." Feng Tianyi took a slice of cake and placed it on Tang Moyu's plate, earning thanks from his wife.
"Here. Try this, Moyu. Butler Ji's cakes are the best. He's the one who taught me how to cook." Feng Tianyi told his wife, who already indulged herself in the cake given to her.
Tang Moyu blinked and looked astonished at what he said. Well, that would make sense, right? Given how close Feng Tianyi was to the butler, it was no wonder he would pick up some skills from the man himself.
"Ah, I see. No wonder the taste seems familiar. You got a very good mentor, Tianyi. I'm sure Baobao and Little Star would also enjoy trying these desserts in the future," she said in response.
"Speaking of the children…" Butler Ji slightly narrowed his eyes on Feng Tianyi. "So it was true that you already have one… no,"—he corrected himself—"I heard they said you have twins."
"Ah, yes. I only recently found out about them. You don't have to look at me suspiciously, Old man." Feng Tianyi frowned. "They are turning five soon. Don't worry, you would be able to meet them. You can see for yourself if they are really mine or not."
Tang Moyu nudged her husband's side to get his attention, chastising for the way he talked with Butler Ji.
"Sorry about that, Butler Ji. It's not Tianyi's fault that he didn't know. It was me who ran without knowing who I spent the night with," she apologized to the old man.
