Chapter 629 - Moyu, You Love Me, Right? (1)
When Feng Tianyi came downstairs with Zhang Jiren, Tang Moyu wondered what kind of talk these two had. Her husband only gave her a smile while their guest kept his impassive mask on, not giving her a single clue. Whatever their topic was, it seemed very private.
Tang Beixuan yawned big, his eyes teary as exhaustion finally caught up with him. He made a mental note to reschedule his ring-hunting for some other time.
"I'll go first. We'll have a long day at work tomorrow," he told his sister before going upstairs. He also needed to give Li Meili a phone call to check on her. It had only been days since she left with Elaine Wu in Beijing, but he was already missing her so badly.
"Are you sure you don't want to spend the night here with us, Jiren? It's raining hard outside." Tang Wanyu asked their cousin, worried that Zhang Jiren would have a hard time going home in this bad weather.
Zhang Jiren shook his head and glanced at Tang Moyu before answering.
"I'm sorry, but I need to. Although there isn't someone waiting for my return, I need to go to work early tomorrow morning," he apologized to everyone.
"Uncle is living alone?" The a.d.u.l.ts turned their heads in the direction where the voice came from and saw that the Tang twins had come back with Auntie Lu. Both were now dressed in their Pokemon onesies with Little Star wearing a pink Jigglypuff while Xiao Bao still wore his favorite Squirtle.
"Ah, yes." Zhang Jiren smiled at his niece. "But it's okay. I'm already used to it."
Little Star knitted her brows, wondering why her newest uncle was always alone. Didn't he have any family or siblings like her mommy? Would that mean that he didn't have anyone to talk to or to share food with? He must be really lonely, living and eating on his own.
Then, she remembered that her Auntie Mei also lived on her own, but at least she had Uncle Beixuan and her friends to accompany her. Uncle Jiren didn't seem like he had friends, although he was a very kind person. How could other people not like him? She didn't understand.
"Uncle, next time, Little Star and Yu Gege would invite you to eat out, okay? But until then, you mustn't forget to eat your meals on time no matter how busy you are." She spoke as if she was chastising the man.
How could she forget that her Mommy would also skip meals whenever Tang Moyu was swamped with work? Little Star had no doubt that Uncle Jiren would do the same, considering he had no one to remind him.
Zhang Jiren laughed awkwardly. How could this little girl chastise him like this? No matter how busy he was, he didn't skip meals at work. He prided himself on taking care of himself.
Because he knew, he couldn't afford to fall sick, knowing his twin sister needed him. How would he be able to protect her from afar if he couldn't take care of himself?
"Darling, don't nag at your Uncle Jiren, okay?" Tang Moyu picked up her daughter and kissed her cheek before regarding Zhang Jiren. "Let me apologize for my daughter's words. She tends to go overboard sometimes."
Zhang Jiren waived her apology and smiled. He'd never imagine that his meeting with his twin sister would turn out like this. He was happy that he was somewhat being acquainted now with his niece, but he couldn't say the same for Xiao Bao who hadn't said a word to him except for his introduction.
"It's fine. I really like Little Star," he admitted, giving the girl a pat on her head.
"I like Uncle Jiren, too!" Little Star exclaimed, pleased to hear that Uncle Jiren had taken a liking on her. See? This handsome uncle was really nice!
"Alright. I have to go now. I'll see you again next time, Little Star," Zhang Jiren told the young girl before glancing at his nephew. "You too, Xiao Bao."
"Bye, Uncle! Be careful on your way!" Little Star waved a hand at him as he turned to leave.
Feng Tianyi kept silent throughout the conversation, only paying attention to what Zhang Jiren would do. It didn't seem like the man bore bad intentions to his wife and his children. In fact, he'd seen how Zhang Jiren's features softened while talking to Little Star.
"Then, I'll go and call it a night," Tang Wanyu said. She also needed to take a rest as her long flight had made her feel more exhausted than usual. Anyway, she wouldn't need to unpack her things tonight as she would be staying with her sister's family at the Feng family's ancestral home starting tomorrow.
As her siblings left, Tang Moyu brought down her daughter who immediately followed her twin brother to the kitchen to drink her milk before going to bed. She didn't understand why Little Star was starting to religiously drink her milk at night. However, seeing the determination on her face, she didn't want to be left behind by her twin brother.
"What's with them? Suddenly wanting to drink milk these days. Do you know what they are up to?" Tang Moyu asked her husband. She briefly reminded that her little prince once insisted that he didn't need to drink his milk anymore as he was already a big boy. So what had changed?
Feng Tianyi laughed and hugged her from behind lovingly.
"Baobao said he wanted to grow up tall soon. I think our son really doesn't like it when people treat him as a child," he said in response.
"But he is indeed a child." Tang Moyu retorted. "A five-year-old is still a child."
Feng Tianyi shrugged. Anyway, there's another issue he wanted to discuss.
"Moyu, you love me, right?" he asked.
"Normally, I'd say yes without hesitation, but I feel like this is going somewhere I don't like. What is this about?"
