Chapter 648 - How Could You Blindly Trust Him? (2)
Tang Moyu took a sip from her glass of wine as she listened to her older sister's narration of her experience living alone overseas. She was glad that slowly, Tang Wanyu was starting to recover from the trauma her ex-husband had inflicted on her. Although Tang Wanyu wasted seven years of her life being married to that impotent Han Shaohui, it was never too late for her to start a new life.
"Sis, I'm really sorry that I couldn't help you back then. I should have tried harder to convince 'mother' not to marry you off to that man." Tang Beixuan apologized to his eldest sister.
Tang Wanyu and the empress shared a knowing look before eyeing their little brother. They both knew how overprotective Beixuan was over the two of them and had always wanted to do something for the both of them. However, he didn't seem to realize that it was their responsibility as his sisters to look after him.
Tang Wanyu patted his back, giving him a weak smile.
"It's alright, Beixuan. It's all in the past. What matters now is that Moyu and I finally gained the freedom we both deserve. I'll be fine, so you better work on your own happiness too. Don't let 'mother' ruin your happiness and chances to be with Miss Li."
Their younger brother lowered his head and sighed. This would have been better if their mother wasn't an opportunist. She might see that having the Li family as her in-laws is a way to bully his Moyu Jie by using Li Meili and her family.
"I know, sis. It's just that it's hard to keep mother at bay. She's always probing into the plans I have for the future. Even if she agreed to let me marry Li Meili, I think what Zhang Jiren said would be right."
Those words instantly took Tang Moyu's attention. She didn't know that her younger brother and their cousin, Zhang Jiren, was now on good terms. She couldn't see the same guarded expression Tang Beixuan had when he talked about Zhang Jiren.
"What did he say?" Her eyes sharpened, wondering what Zhang Jiren's motive behind befriending her younger brother was, but she was reminded of what Feng Tianyi told her. It was better for them to keep an eye on Zhang Jiren.
Tang Beixuan's lips pressed into a thin line, remembering the conversation he had with Zhang Jiren and how the latter had a heated argument with his half-brother.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I heard him arguing with Zhang Liang, his older brother. Zhang Jiren has somehow ruined Zhang Liang's plan to ask for Meili's hand in marriage from the Li family."
"Oh my!" Tang Wanyu covered her mouth with one hand, her eyes widened in shock. She knew that the Zhang family had such a huge appetite, but to target, Li Meili, wasn't Zhang Liang afraid he would eventually earn Tang Moyu's scorn?
"He dares?" Tang Moyu seethed in anger. "I will make sure that he wouldn't be able to breathe the same air Meili is breathing."
To think that now that the Tang family was no more, the Zhang family was now eyeing the Li family? She wouldn't allow any of the Zhang family members to get close to her best friend.
Tang Beixuan waved his hand, realizing that he had totally ruined the night with his rumblings. Darn his mouth. This was supposed to be a special night out with his siblings.
"It's alright, sis. I think Zhang Jiren managed to stop him. Even if Zhang Liang persisted, I trust that Meili wouldn't accept him." He tried to calm Tang Moyu down but failed. He could see that his sister's gears were already moving at a fast speed.
"Calm down, Moyu." Tang Wanyu placed a hand over her younger sister's hand. "If Beixian says Cousin Jiren has already dealt with it, then we don't have to worry."
The empress looked at her sister, confused.
"How can you blindly trust Zhang Jiren like that Wan Jie? Even if you say he's our cousin, he's still a Zhang." Tang Moyu couldn't help but ask, Tang Wanyu however only gave her a helpless smile. There were just things that couldn't be explained with mere words. If she hadn't seen the kind of life Zhang Jiren had before and didn't know his personality, she would also be wary of him.
"It's okay to be wary of him, Moyu, but I suggest you give him a chance to prove himself. He's not a bad person. If I'm wrong, then I will have to apologize to you in advance."
The rest of the dinner was spent talking about their plans after Tang Moyu and Feng Tianyi's wedding ceremony. As Tang Wanyu would be staying a few more weeks before returning overseas, she wanted to take this opportunity to spend some time with the little buns.
When they left the restaurant, it was raining outside. Since the three of them had arrived using Tang Beixuan's car, they immediately slid inside and fastened their seatbelts. Following them was another car used by Tang Moyu's bodyguards. She couldn't leave home or Xiao Xing without them, so it was only natural that they would follow her even now.
"Wan Jie, Xiao Bao and Little Star love baking. I think they wouldn't be like Moyu Jie who can't work around in the kitchen. It's really good that they took after Big Bro." Tang Beixuan said, his eyes focused on the wet road as he was in charge of driving.
Tang Wanyu giggled at her siblings' reaction. "Then I'll try to learn baking with them."
When they crossed the intersection of the highway, Tang Beixuan attempted to slow down, but no matter how hard he pressed the brakes, it wouldn't work.
"Beixuan! What's happening?!" Tang Moyu asked, though she could guess what the problem was.
"The brakes won't work!" It was obvious that he was in a panic state.
"Beixuan!" Tang Wanyu held onto the handle of the door of the backseat, looking at her siblings with fear in her eyes. What's happening?
"I'm trying! I'm trying!" They heard him exclaim, attempting to pull the emergency brake next to him.
"No! Beixuan! No!" Tang Moyu was horrified when she saw what her brother did. Didn't he know what could happen if he pulled a parking brake while they were moving at high speed? She knew that Tang Beixuan was an inexperienced driver, but damn it, he should have been more careful while engaging the emergency brake.
Because his car was still moving when the rear wheels suddenly locked, the car swayed sideways and started skidding. Tang Wanyu's scream could be heard while Tang Moyu braced herself, hoping that they wouldn't crash into another car along the way.
'Damn it, why was this happening?!' She gritted her teeth.
If she knew this would happen, she would have taken over the wheels before leaving the restaurant. Tang Moyu had learned several things to avoid accidents like this, courtesy of her husband's accident.
She certainly didn't want to die tonight, neither was she willing to leave her husband a widow and her children motherless. She could see from the corner of her eyes that Tang Beixuan was attempting to regain control of his car, but failing.
Because the road was slippery, it was hard for him to make it stop and when it did, Tang Beixuan thought that they were saved. However, an oncoming truck suddenly hit the passenger's side, sending him a red alert on the gravity of the situation they were in.
"Moyu Jie!"
