Wang Yao was a bit disappointed by the response from the system. He opened the control panel and found that neither of his two missions had been completed. It indicated on the system that he had cured three people with conditions difficulty to treat. The three people were Wei Hai, Yang Haichuan’s mother, and Zhou Xiong’s son. Sun Yunsheng and Su Xiaoxue were getting better. Chen Ying’s brother also seemed to be better. However, Wang Yao hadn’t seen Zhou Wuxing, Zhou Xiong’s uncle for a long time.

It was pure luck to come across patients with conditions hard-to-treat.

Should I wait for patients or try to find patients?

After all, he could wait, but time wouldn’t wait.

Inside a household in Lianshan town center, a man was talking to his father.

“Dad, what are these things you bought home?” asked the man.

“Can’t you see they are herbs? They are used to treat my legs,” said his father pleasantly.

“Do these herbs work?” asked the man.

“Of course, I still feel warmth in my leg and have had no pain up till now,” said his father.

“Really? What treatment did you get?” asked the man as he held his father’s hand.

“As for the treatment, the doctor just massaged my leg,” said the man’s father after thinking for a moment?

“What? Just a massage?” asked the man with surprise.

“Exactly, just a massage.” The man’s father just realized that Wang Yao gave him a simple treatment. However, the effect was wonderful.

“But the way he massaged me was quite different, and more effective,” said the man’s father after thinking for a moment.

“The best massage treatment is still just a massage treatment. I’ve never heard that the coldness in one’s leg can be cured by massage. By the way, Dad, how much did he charge you?” asked the man. He started to suspect that his father had been fooled.

“He charged me 100,” said his father.

“100, not too bad then,” said the man.

The 100 yuan just covered part of the cost of the herbs. Wang Yao didn’t ask him to pay for Qi therapy. It was hard to set a price on Qi therapy as it was quite unique.

The same thing happened in another household.

“Dad, have you been fooled by the so called doctor? These herbs are worth 300 yuan?” An old man’s son apparently thought his father met a fraud. He didn’t believe those bags of herbs were worth 300 yuan.

All those herbs were actually wild and very effective to the old man’s condition. They wouldn’t be able to buy the same herbs with 300 yuan.

“He’s a well-known doctor,” said the old man.

“Well-known? I really doubt his medical skills. I heard he is quite young,” said his son.

“Right, he seems to be around 26,” said the old man.

“What can a doctor in his 20s do? I guess the only thing he can do is fool old people like you. Listen to me, don’t go back to him. Consider this a lesson,” said his son. “Time for dinner, Dad, I made your favorite braised pork with preserved vegetable.”

“The doctor asked me not to eat meat,” said the old man.

“What? Don’t take his words seriously,” said his son.

The old man hesitated before having several piece of pork.

“Hmmm, the meat tastes really nice.” The old man completely forgot about Wang Yao’s instructions in front of his favorite dish.

Wang Yao had seen six patients in the village in one day. They all went to see him because of word of mouth.

“The doctor is so young!” All the patients made the same comment when they met Wang Yao.

“He’s a highly skilled doctor, very capable.” That was the comment from patients who were cured by Wang Yao.

“Is he really good?” This was the doubt from patients whose condition hadn’t improved yet.

“I know he’s a fraud, look how young he is! He just fooled me!” That was the comment from patients who hadn’t been cured by Wang Yao.

Of course Wang Yao didn’t know these comments were going around. Even if he heard of the comments though, he wouldn’t mind.

At the moment he was sorting out the medical notes of his patients. The notes were valuable as they were his experiences in treating different conditions. He could pass his knowledge and experience onto the next generation after accumulating a good amount of notes. He was able to control the herbs he used. He would try not to use licorice roots and Qi therapy unless he really needed to.

Wang Mingbao returned to the village from Lianshan town center when it was close to dusk.

He seemed to have lost a lot of weight and didn’t look well. Wang Yao was just away from the village for a week.

“How was everything going in Beijing?” asked Wang Mingbao.

“Good, let me make you a cup of tea,” said Wang Yao.

  “Thank you,” said Wang Mingbao.

The two of the sat down and started to chat.

“You seem to have lost a lot of weight. What happened?” asked Wang Yao.

“Nothing, I was just away for a while,” said Wang Mingbao with a smile.

“Hey, you are like a brother to me. You can tell me what happened,” said Wang Yao.

“I’m really fine. I visited Shangjun,” said Wang Mingbao.

“Shanghjun? What did you go there for?” asked Wang Yao.

“I went to visit someone there,” said Wang Mingbao as he lit a cigarette.

“Went to visit a person?” said Wang Yao with surprise, “Who did you see?”

“A boy who quit school,” said Wang Mingbao.

“What?!” said Wang Yao with surprise, “A boy who quit school?”

“Yes. One day I saw a news about supporting poor students on TV by chance. Then I phoned to ask them for details of how to support a student. So I went there after I have gotten the information. You know, I wasn’t in good mood at that time. I needed something to distract me. After I arrived at that place, the living condition there really shocked me,” said Wang Mingbao.

“Is the place in the mountain area?” asked Wang Yao.

“Yes, the place is surrounded by mountains. I really had no idea there could be such a poor place existing in China,” said Wang Mingbao with a sigh. “The children there have never drank milk.”

  Wang Yao didn’t say anything.

“I stayed there for two days and gave all the cash I brought with me to the child I support. His family was really appreciative. I suddenly found it’s nice to help people, especially those kind people in need,” said Wang Mingbao.

“Take me there to have a look when you are available,” said Wang Yao.

  “Okay,” said Wang Mingbao.

Wang Yao and Wang Mingbao were not short of money. They both lived quite comfortably. They both felt they needed to do something meaningful, especially after they’ve earned some money. They needed to do something good for the society. Of course a lot of rich people were never bothered to help others, but there were still some rich and powerful people who were keen to engage in charity. They just tried to keep a low profile.

“By the way, the boy I support doesn’t seem to be doing well. He’s sick all the time,” said Wang Mingbao.

“I’m not surprised. He lives in a poor village that is likely short of food and goods. If he starves frequently, he wouldn’t get adequate nutrition to keep healthy. So he’s gonna be ill often,” said Wang Yao.

“Actually I didn’t leave much money for him. It won’t make too much difference,” said Wang Mingbao.

“You’ve tried your best. After all, you are not a billionaire,” said Wang Yao. “We can go there together when you are available. Maybe I could start fundraising for them.”

He could donate some money to the residents there, and could also ask his friends to donate some money. It could help, depending on the residents’ situations.

“Do you want to have dinner at my place?” asked Wang Yao.

“No, thanks, I’ll eat with my grandparents. They’ve cooked dinner,” said Wang Mingbao.

“Okay, next time,” said Wang Yao.

They chatted for a short while before leaving the clinic together.

“Yao, are you available tomorrow?” asked Zhang Xiuying while having dinner.

  “Yeah, why?” said Wang Yao.

“Can you go to your grandparent’s place with me tomorrow?” asked Zhang Xiuying.

  “Yeah,” replied Wang Yao.

While he was eating back at home, he received a phone call from Wang Ru.

“What? Okay, I see. I’m on my way now,” said Wang Yao on the phone. “Mom, I need to go to the town now. I might not come back tonight.” Wang Yao stood up.

“You haven’t finished your meal,” said Zhang Xiuying.

“I have to go now,” said Wang Yao.

“Okay, drive safe,” said Zhang Xiuying.

  “I know,” said Wang Yao.

Wang Yao drove to the town center in a rush. His sister told him on the phone that she was in a motor vehicle accident, and asked him not to tell their parents. Wang Yao called Pan Jun immediately after he had left home because his sister was in the town hospital. Pan Jun was having dinner when Wang Yao called him. He put down his chopsticks and went to the hospital without hesitation.

“What happened? You had an accident,” asked Wang Yao.

“Nothing too serious, you should have finished your dinner first,” said Wang Ru.

When Wang Yao had arrived at the hospital, his sister had seen the doctor. She was talking to Pan Jun on a pair of crutches.

“How is she?” asked Wang Yao.

“She’s fine. Just had some scratches to the skin and muscles. Her bones are fine,” said Pan Jun.

  “What happened?” asked Wang Yao.

“It was absolutely horrendous. I was walking on the footpath with my friend. A car just came out of nowhere and came right towards us. Fortunately we ran fast, otherwise we would have been run over,” said Wang Ru. She was still upset about the event.

“What about the driver of the car?” asked Wang Yao.

“Drunk driving, and he’s escaped,” replied Wang Ru.

“Drunk driving under such strict traffic laws? Where is your friend now?” asked Wang Yao.

“She had a fracture in her arm. The doctor is still putting a plaster on it,” replied Wang Ru.

“Have you guys called the police?” asked Wang Yao.

“Yes, the police is still looking for the driver,” replied Wang Ru.

This was considered a hit-and-run. Even though no one died, the driver could be put in jail according to the law, because he had injured two people.

“Well, I’m glad you are fine,” said Wang Yao.

“You didn’t tell our parents, did you?” asked Wang Ru.

  “No,” replied Wang Yao.
