Chapter 199: Ask the Neighborhood Dog for Permission
"You could brag about how you put her in her place. Your son would inherit the business, too. How fun!" She felt anger rise in her stomach.
"He wouldn't get the company," Mo Qingchen said casually. Qian Meng looked at him questioningly, but he didn't respond.
"What do you know? Why are you even here?" Yun Sui Bo asked.
"I was going to come tomorrow, but you thought it was okay to call Qian Meng late in the night to lecture her and drive her into the corner."
"For the family dinner?" Jiang Xin gasped. She turned to Qian Meng. "You know that no one is allowed to come to our family dinner. Why did you invite him?"
Qian Meng rolled her eyes. "You two invited the Bais and stuffed them in my life. I wasn't even married to their house, but you did it. Now that I have a man who I am really marrying, you'll bring up some bullshit custom!" What a joke.
"The man you will be marrying? Who gave you the permission?" Yun Sui Bo barked.
"I don't need your permission. I already don't consider you in the decisions I take," Qian Meng lied. She had bought a company that was in shambles to make a point. To get her father off her back. How was she unaffected by him?
"Then why did you bring him here? To get my blessings? Let me tell you, Qian Meng, you will get no such thing." Talk about a conservative outlook. It was only there because it benefited him in some way.
"Blessing," Mo Qingchen scoffed.
"We are here to inform you. When I publish the news, people will call you and congratulate you because your daughter married her worthy match." Her eyes flickered to Chen Yue, the look taunting.
"Are you calling my Ye Qing unworthy of you?" she asked. She was ignored.
"I know how you hate to be blindsided. That's why I am doing you a favor," she told Yun Sui Bo.
"Doing me a favor? I dare you to marry. I'll ruin you. Do you understand?" Chen Yue shook at this threat.
Qian Meng was unbothered. "You have made these threats before. And I told you every time that I don't care. I would like to see you try."
Mo Qingchen frowned. "I'd like to see him try," he said.
"Young man, don't taunt me. You might think you have some power, but in front of me, you can do nothing," Yun Sui Bo said lightly. Now, he felt a little more in control.
Mo Qingchen looked at him curiously. "Do you really believe that? By marrying me, she will be the wife of the oldest Mo son. My father hates when others bully his family members." He smiled.
The smile on Yun Sui Bo's face slipped. He looked at Mo Qingchen for a second. "When they call me about your wedding, I will tell them that I didn't say yes to it."
"Do you think this is Ancient China and by not getting your permission, we are eloping and disgracing ourselves?" Qian Meng burst out into laughter.
"Sure. While I try to get your permission for this wedding, I should also ask the mailman and the neighborhood dog about it. How will I marry Qian Meng if I don't get their permission?" Mo Qingchen said without looking at anyone.
His eyes were fixed on something else. Yun Qian Meng followed his gaze and found her brother at the entrance, eating something while he watched the scene unfold.
He laughed nervously when he was caught.
The people in the room turned.
"When did you go out?" Jiang Xin cried.
"Earlier. When father was calling sister over, I went out to buy some food." He scampered over, knowing there was no use in standing on the sideline.
"Sis, look. There is a new mochi place around the corner. I bought some for you," he offered her the box. He plopped down beside Yun Qian Meng and latched onto her arm.
He peered at Mo Qingchen and smiled widely. "Brother-in-law, nice to meet you!"
He sounded too enthusiastic.
"Qing Yuan!" Yun Sui Bo warned. "He is not your brother-in-law."
"Of course, he is!" Qing Yuan said without regard. "The whole country knows. Father, did you not know?" he blinked.
"You knew about this?" Jiang Xin gasped. Qing Yuan nodded. "Why didn't you tell us?"
He blinked in confusion. "Everyone knows. How should I have known father's secretary didn't tell him?"
Mo Qingchen watched the younger brother. He analyzed every move and every word he said. If Qian Meng was treated well, she wouldn't see through the fa?ade. But Mo Qingchen was not the same. So, he bid his time and watched.
"You should have told us," Jiang Xin said mildly.
Qing Yuan shrugged. He turned to Qian Meng. "Have some mochi," he urged. "All the influencers are eating here. It's all over social media!" he said proudly.
Qian Meng nodded, now calmer. She propped the box open and took a ball out. She bit into it and held back a moan.
"Have this!" she said immediately, turning to Mo Qingchen and waving it in front of his mouth. Mo Qingchen glanced away from Qing Yuan's face and saw the bitten mochi that she was shoving in his face.
He lowered his head and took a small bite. Qian Meng watched as his eyes glittered. She shoved it into his open mouth and then took another one in her hand.
"Not bad," he said after chewing for a long time.
"If the store is open while we go back, let's buy a box," Qian Meng suggested. Mo Qingchen hummed.
"Are you two showing off your love in front of us?" Chen Yue said, her voice raised.
"Yes," Qian Meng said sweetly.
"You ruined my son's life and you are showing off?" she asked. She turned to Yun Sui Bo. "You said you would take care of this. I am sitting here and I only see that your daughter is taking advantage of you!" She huffed.
