Chapter 253: The Lady Boss Bribes the Employees
Qian Meng nodded. She looked at the sample bags and then signed off on the order. "Thank you so much. I'll have someone unload all the things," she said with a grin.
As it turned out, the whole process took hours.
She already asked Li Min to make a schedule. The white packets of wedding candy were stored in the canteen's pantry. According to the schedule, every department would come in and take their packets.
Doing the same in Mo Qingchen's office was another thing altogether.
She left him a message while they were unloading the Venus share of packages.
He called her immediately. "Candy? What are you talking about?" he asked. She could hear that he was walking.
"Wedding candy. It's a tradition. I am giving one to each of my employees at the headquarters. So, yours should get them too, right?" she told him.
"Have they arrived already?" he asked.
"Yes. I was wondering if you could help out with unloading everything."
Indeed, Mo Qingchen came out and when he saw the truck waiting for him, his jaw went slack.
"For every employee?" he asked.
She nodded. "I am trying to score points as the boss's wife. I already made a fool of them that day. I need to compensate in some way," she shrugged.
He blinked and then sighed. "I'll get some help." He was busy making calls. But some employees had already come out of their building and were waiting eagerly for their share of wedding candy.
Qian Meng followed along, accepting congratulations and taking compliments on how good they looked together. She even handed out some candies with her own two hands.
"Sorry for taking up your time," she said when she reached the health club. She had realized that it was the gossip hub and the people she had duped were all congregated inside, their heads together as they hyperventilated.
They looked up immediately and gave her weak smiles. "Miss Yun… Mrs. Mo…" They didn't know what to call her.
"Ah, don't worry about formalities. I felt bad for being on the sly and getting such information about the boss from you. So, I brought all of you something special."
She ushered Mo Qingchen in and a few people after that.
The black satin bags came out with the notes and candy. They were shameless to take it from her. Qian Meng couldn't stop laughing.
"You were working for the enemy all along!" Peng Huo commented. His eyes widened and he slapped his hand over his mouth when he remembered Mo Qingchen was there.
Actually, Mo Qingchen was busy looking at the packets and wondering why he wasn't getting any. There was a lot of care put into these packets and he wasn't getting one? Preposterous!
"I was. But I could be a double agent, for all you know," Qian Meng countered. "Thank you for contributing to his company. It was part of your contribution that brought it where it is. For taking care of my husband and doing your job despite your feelings… thank you." She bowed a little, her eyes twinkling.
She was trying to create a bridge between the employees and Mo Qingchen. A little less fear would do them good and increase productivity. At least, they shouldn't be scared of voicing their problems if they had any. And if she, as an outsider for the company but the closest person to their boss could help the matters, she couldn't see why not.
Cai De was the next to speak up. "You really stumped us for words. Gu Rong nearly delivered her baby from the anxiety."
Qian Meng looked at the secretary in disbelief. "Tell me that's a joke."
She waved it off. "They are just exaggerating. Nothing like that happened." She smacked Cai De's arm. "Thank you for the present. You didn't have to…" she said politely.
She, as a secretary, knew how much work must have been put into this.
"Wedding candy is for family and friends. I have always believed that my company and employees were part of that group. Though the social relationship is different, everyone deserves it." She smiled. "Go along, I know you want to eat a candy."
She urged them on.
She didn't speak more, knowing it would make them feel awkward, so she left, tugging Mo Qingchen along.
"Why do they get wedding candy but I don't? You didn't even offer one to me?" he asked.
"I have the sample packets. I could give you one," she shrugged. "I ordered enough for all the employees at your office. Only for the headquarters, though," she corrected quickly.
"I get a sample?" he looked affronted.
"It's the same thing. Come on," she tugged him along. Once inside his office, she pulled out the bag and gave it to him.
"What did your employees get?" he asked. She just showed him a picture.
"Oh, you put in a lot of thought into it. Why the white lace and black satin?" he asked as he opened the bag and peered inside. "It has a variety of candy, too."
"I didn't want to go with the usual red packets people give. The bride wears white and the groom black. I went with the best materials that suit the color in this case. I spent a pretty dime on all of it."
"You really didn't have to," Mo Qingchen said. "But thank you for trying." He patted her head. He took out the note and squinted his eyes to see. "What is written on this?" he asked.
Qian Meng frowned and took the card away. "Excuse me, don't criticize my handwriting."
Mo Qingchen burst out into laughter. "This chicken scrawl is your writing?"
Qian Meng huffed. "I penned it and sent it to the company to put it on the cards. Don't laugh." She smacked him on the shoulder.
"Okay, read it out to me, please. Because I can't read whatever you wrote." He pressed his lips together to bite back the smile. She looked a little offended so he tried to hold his reaction back.
