Chapter 266: Enjoy Her Husbands Free Service
More reviews and pictures criticizing the company flooded all their pages. Be it their social media, company website, any retail stores and malls they were in… it was everywhere.
As she scrolled through the comments, something became relatively clear to her. Shi Yuhan wasn't working alone to get the favor of the company. She was doing this because she had been asked to create trouble.
Sophie's Secret was buying commenters and creating an army of criticizers who oppress any comments that came to the defense of Venus.
She sometimes saw a comment here or there about how shady Shi Yuhan's attitude was in the video. But the dislikes, the violent comments, and retorts shut down any rational commenter everywhere.
Everyone congregated in the meeting room.
"What's the current situation?" Qian Meng asked, looking around the room.
Ma Qui was the first to speak up. He had a hint of a smile on his face. "Boss, I spoke to Sales and they saw a huge spike in orders placed. Online stores are being flooded by people. The amount of new people who are ordering in despite the high prices is mind-boggling," he said.
Qian Meng looked at him curiously. "Obviously you know why they are buying the products. Why do you look so happy?" she asked.
"Your revenue went up."
Xiong Fen cleared her throat. "The media coverage of the trend is really driving the point home. If we look at the top 5 news outlets and the articles they published about the incident, you will get a clear view of the narrative being presented."
Li Min pulled up the article on the big screen in the conference room.
It read:
[People in Shanghai are destroying their Venus products to protest the company's ill-treatment of customers. Despite the company saying that they are looking into the matter, the people are fired up.]
The article explained what had happened and how the livestream had taken the internet by storm, going viral within minutes.
[The backlash from people escalated when screenshots of a high-ranking employee from Venus contacting the celebrity involved in the controversy.]
"They are having a field day with this, aren't they?" Qian Meng spoke. "But the tone is not critical or negative. Even the titles aren't that outlandish as last night. Are the journalists losing traction or have the talks to change titles helped?"
Xiong Fen took the lead in this. "We have contacted most of the journalists who have been publishing articles. We have talked the journalists into changing the harsh titles and reducing mentions of Venus. We have also convinced the journalists to put in some good points from our previous campaigns and how our employees are treated humanely."
Qian Meng twirled her pen in her hand. "Thank you for taking the initiative for that. The clickbait titles were bothering me." Actually, a lot of things happened in the background, things that her employees did very well that she didn't need to worry about or ask them to do. They knew how to do that. Qian Meng was only concerned with how to handle the people in the scandal. The handling of the media and public opinion? She could leave that in the capable hands of her employees.
"Just doing my work, Boss. I'll submit a thorough report later on," Xiong Fen said.
"Any advance in getting information about Shi Yuhan?" she asked.
Xiong Fen looked up apologetically. "Yes, we got confirmation about who is backing her. It's both a corporation and a person."
"Both?" This surprised Qian Meng. "Who and which company?"
She knew which company, but she needed to be sure.
"Sophie's Secret. The third son of the current CEO is having an affair with Shi Yuhan," Xiong Fen said.
"Look at that, so much scandalous content to put out into the public," Ma Qui snickered.
Qian Meng frowned. "It's not like we can use that information to get back at her. We only need to know her motivation to bring her down. If this is a personal attack on the company on behalf of her boyfriend's family business… then I don't think I have to hold back," Qian Meng acknowledged. "But how did you get the information about this relationship?"
Xiong Fen looked even more guilty. "No one in the industry seemed to know a thing about it. They must have been really discreet about all of it to keep it hidden for so long." She paused and looked around the room. "I received a message a while ago with only pictures."
She pulled out her phone and turned it to show Qian Meng.
They were selfies of Shi Yuhan with the third son. Qian Meng snorted.
"Whose number is that?" she asked.
"Restricted number. Do you want me to look into it?" Xiong Fen asked.
"There was nothing written on it?" Qian Meng questioned. Once she got confirmation, she didn't bother thinking too deeply into it. "Don't worry about it. I already know who it is."
The man took his words really seriously. Hacking into phones and posting apologies. At least he didn't post any apology from Shi Yuhan's accounts. That was a boon in itself.
This much, she could let him slide.
"You know who it is?" Ma Qui squeaked. "Let's employ them. Such a great resource."
Qian Meng broke into laughter. "Enjoy the free service. You can't afford to pay for it," she joked.
The room grew silent, people somewhat understanding what it meant. No one acknowledged what they knew. Their Boss's husband was truly powerful. Hacking into phones like nothing was the matter and not even taking credit for it.
To the few who didn't realize the truth, much was to be said about them ignoring the outright PDA of the boss couple.
"Okay, let's continue. I want to see what the narrative for destroying the products is. I don't like it as a trend," she sighed.
Li Min scrolled and the room read through the caption of the videos posted.
[@Venus, due to your lack of support for the people, I as a non-rich person can no longer support your company.]
