Chapter 55 - Human Language
"Stop! No! Don’t!" Xiu Mei screamed as she grabbed Lu Chen’s shirt with all her might, clinging onto him like her life depended on it.
Fear and panic came over her as Lu Chen slowly tried lowering her to the ground, letting her go. A few minutes ago, Xiu Mei would’ve felt happier if he did that but right now, all she wanted to do was glue her arms around Lu Chen’s neck just so he wouldn’t be able to separate from him like he was doing right now.
It’s not like she was left with any choice aside from clinging onto him. It’s better than being closer to the other wild animals that were surrounding them right now.
Yes, other wild animals. Specifically a lion, jaguar, gorilla, zebra, and many more than she could name of. She suddenly felt like she was in some children’s animation where they go into a wildlife adventure.
"You’ll be fine." Lu Chen whispered to her ears, his lips curling up showing evidence of his amus.e.m.e.nt right now. He understood that right now, Xiu Mei was too fearful of the animals that she was seeing right now.
She must’ve thought that they would be attacking her but what she didn’t know was all the animals in here were all taken care of when they were still infants by Lu Chen and his other subordinates. They were taken care of as pets, but they also trained them to attack to protect themselves and their caretakers.
And right now, all the animals here clearly understood that the person he was with right now is a friend. Lu Chen even went to rub his scent onto her, as seen as how he had suddenly hugged her up when entering the personal zoo.
Lu Chen smiled in amus.e.m.e.nt. Xiu Mei would’ve surely doubted that it was the real reason if he had explained this to her, and maybe she was right. After all, there are a lot of ways to transfer his scent onto her but right now, since he was courting her and desperately chasing after her, he needed to be shameless.
If he has to be aggressive with his techniques, that he will.
"No!" Xiu Mei retorted as she wound up her arms around Lu Chen’s neck, unaware of their intimate position right now.
"It’s fine. I’ll be here." Lu Chen slowly let go of his hold on her legs, lowering it to the ground. But he did not dare distance his hands from her. What he did was snaking his free hand to her waist making it look like that they are both hugging each other. Which they really are.
"Xiu Mei." Lu Chen whispered, trying to soothe Xiu Mei with his voice. With that, Xiu Mei’s stiff body faintly relaxed in his arms yet he could still feel that nervousness she was having.
"I won’t let anything happen to you. Trust me." He was sincerely promising. Lu Chen himself only knew that he was promising this not just for now, but for all the days to come. He knows that once Xiu Mei promises him to spend the rest of her life with him, he’ll have to be honest with her.
And that includes the dark side of himself.
Yes, he is quite selfish. Too selfish to just let Xiu Mei peacefully lead her life.
Xiu Mei bit her lip as she carefully thought about his words.
"Okay." She faintly said, believing his words. If ever Lu Chen ever lies to her and suddenly leaves her alone here, then he’ll be damned.
She slowly removed her arms from his neck, then one of her hands went straight to attach itself on his arm.
"MOM!"
A voice behind called. Xiu Mei immediately recognized the owner of that voice and turned to look behind her. Her eyes went wide seeing Lu Qiang approaching her.
He…… was sitting on a lion.
A damn. Fudging. Lion.
How do you even get to sit on a lion?! That’s the king of the jungle you know!!
But no voice escaped from her mouth as she gaped in shock. Lu Qiang finally reached her side and hastily climbed off from the lion’s back to run to her side.
"Mom, meet my pet and friend, King." Lu Qiang merrily said as he pointed at the lion that he came with. Her eyes automatically followed the side he was pointing at and saw the said lion that seems to be looking at her as well. More precisely, she felt like she was being scrutinized by the said lion before letting out a huff.
Weirdly, she even saw that he lightly bowed his head to greet her.
Her brows creased. Shit, do the animals here understand human language?!
Did she weirdly stepped into some fantasy world where animals can understand and talk to humans???
She whipped her head to look at Lu Chen, asking for enlightenment. She tried signaling at him that she needed some explanation as to why Lu Qiang have a lion as a friend and how in the world did he train all of these animals.
She’d noticed it for quite a while that the animals here seem to be keeping a certain distance from her, like they are in fear of agitating her too much. They hadn’t made any single sound or growl at all ever since they’ve surrounded her.
What Xiu Mei had vibed from these animals is that they seem to be more curious about her rather than pouncing on her as their dinner.
"How……?"
"Because they can understand you."
"……what?"
Lu Chen repeated. "They can understand what we are saying." And then he roamed his eyes to all the animals that were surrounding them.
"Because they were trained to understand it. Our language. Every single word that you say, they can understand it."
Xiu Mei blanked out.
Oh gawd, she must’ve really stepped into a dream world, a fantasy one that is. Because she had actually heard Lu Chen say something ridiculous that she would’ve never imagined in her entire life.
