Jing Yichen walked down, one step after another with Shangguan Ning in his arms.

  He looked cold but couldn’t help but ask her after they reached one floor lower. “Hurt anywhere?”


  Shangguan Ning was very anxious, fearing that Jing Yichen would really have shot Ji Bo dead. But judging from his expression, she understood that he had been merciful enough not to put two more bullets into Ji Bo.

  With arms around Jing Yichen’s neck, she shook her head softly. “No, I am fine. Ji Bo and Shangguan Rouxue held me captive. She wanted to kill me but he stopped her.”


  Jing Yichen’s expressions didn’t become any better after hearing what she said.

  He knew that Ji Bo would have defended Shangguan Ning. He knew Ji Bo’s real feelings too well!

  But Jing Yichen was not very happy at the sight of Shangguan Ning’s worried face. He said in composure, “That was not a fatal shot. He won’t die.”


  The worry on Shangguan Ning’s face disappeared all of a sudden. Then she looked up and kissed Jing Yichen on the cheek as she said with a smile, “You are the best!”


  Jing Yichen finally looked happier but he felt depressed again when he thought that he got the kiss because of him showing mercy towards Ji Bo.

  But Shangguan Ning felt incredibly assured.

  His arms were warm and comfortable and she wanted to stay in them forever.

  Shangguan Ning knew that Jing Yichen had wanted to kill Ji Bo. He would show no mercy to anyone who treated her badly.

  She said with a soft voice, “Ji Bo is a part of what happened today but he didn’t hurt me right from the beginning. He even defended me. I won’t let you kill him. This bullet is already serious enough for him to learn the lesson. He doesn’t have to die. Family Ji would surely take revenge from Family Jing if he does and that won’t be good.”


  Jing Yichen said nothing and carried her out of this building. He placed her in the car carefully and then sat in.

  Jing Yichen made a call to Jing Zhongxiu and told him that Shangguan Ning had been found. Then he hung up and took Shangguan Ning into his arms.

  Jing Yichen had almost used up all of his efforts in the search that lasted for more than an hour.

  With Shangguan Ning in his arms, Jing Yichen finally let out a sigh of relief.

  He was exhausted but he held her in his arms tightly, fearing that she would disappear again.

  Shangguan Ning also felt quite frightened for what had happened tonight. It had been a dangerous situation with Shangguan Rouxue threatening her. She might have lost her life if she had not managed to fool her.

  Shangguan Ning was not scared of being injured. What she worried about was the baby in her belly.

  It was still early in the pregnancy and the tremendous change of emotions was not supposed to be great for the child’s growth.

  She also held Jing Yichen tightly and leaned her head against his strong arms. Then she finally said what was on her mind. “I am so happy that you are here. I was so scared and had only been pretending to stay calm.”


  Jing Yichen felt his heart ache tremendously. Ignoring the driver in the car, he lowered his head and kissed her fiercely as if trying to absorb her into his own body.

  “I am sorry that I was late, baby, sorry that you had to suffer.”


  Jing Yichen spoke in a low voice, sounding guilty and heartbroken.

  Shangguan Ning accepted his kiss generously and shook her head. “No, you are not late. I was so happy to see you. You are always there when I am in the most vulnerable state, right from the time we met.”


  He must have searched every corner of the neighborhood like hell that he ended up finding her so quickly.

  “I was worried that you fell for their trick. Judging from what Ji Bo said, they were trying to use the same trick on you, which they used against dad years back. So I was anxious.”


  With one hand on Shangguan Ning’s waist and the other under her chin, Jing Yichen talked in a very gentle yet firm way, “Ning, don’t worry. That trap would never work on me. I will never fail to tell others apart from you. I will always know if you are next to me, even when I have lost consciousness!”


  “Yes, I know. I didn’t think that you would ever confuse me with other women. I trust you.”


  When they got back to the hotel, Jing Yichen and Shangguan Ning shifted to another room. The presidential suit had been cleaned up, but he didn’t want Shangguan Ning to stay there any longer.

  The wedding gown was moved to the new room, too. After a shower, Shangguan Ning stopped feeling nervous, especially after seeing the wedding gown hung in front of her eyes.

  She was finally at peace.

  Although she had been through a life and death situation, not long ago, she still felt that she was going to spend a happy life with Jing Yichen, despite all the trouble.

  Coming out of the bathroom, Jing Yichen found Shangguan Ning staring at the wedding gown with a happy expression on her face.

  It felt as if the past hour never occurred. The scene in front of his eyes was exactly as it was one hour ago when he went to deal with Jing Yiran.

  Jing Yichen felt his heart calm down.

  She was looking forward to this wedding so much that she kept caressing the wedding gown.

  He had been right. He knew that Shangguan Ning couldn’t have possibly gone to bed so early.

  He came to Shangguan Ning and felt her pulse to make sure that she was fine apart from feeling shocked. Then he bent down to pick her up and placed her gently on the bed.

  Shangguan Ning chuckled. “By now, you have felt my pulse eight times. I am fine!”


  She was surprised that Jing Yichen had learnt to feel the pulse to make a diagnosis.

  And he seemed to be confident that he could do it well enough not to bother Mu Qing. Jing Yichen’s rejection had startled Mu Qing as well.

  “Doesn’t hurt to feel the pulse several times. I am just a bit worried about you. But both of you are doing well.”


  Jing Yichen finally had a light smile on his face. He took Shangguan Ning into his arms and said softly, “Baby, go and sleep now. These clothes would be here when you wake up. No need to stare at them anymore. You will spend an entire day with them tomorrow.”
