  Shazi Sultan

  ~ Many years ago ~

  “There’s another spirit being born!” A young boy shouted with joy as he ran across the village, barefoot, his long brown hair flowing behind him. This news brought a smile onto the faces of all the people.

  There were not more than fifty people in the small village, and the fact that another one of them would be born soon brought great satisfaction and happiness. In one of the houses situated in the centre, a handsome man looked out to the young boy, his silver white hair coming down to his ankles, eyes as cold as steel.

  He scoffed, looking at his wrists where, just for a second, dark red and blue bruises appeared. He fell to the ground, heart pounding and breaths quickening.

  “So what if there’s a new spirit being born?”


  He stood up, pouring tea in a ceramic cup. Even though he tried to calm his thoughts, it was useless. Unpleasant memories had already emerged, spawning vicious dark thoughts in his mind.

  “Those alive are so selfish……”


  He sighed, eyes already vacant as he stared at the tree right in the mid of their settlement with a twisted trunk and gnarled roots. The leaves were a healthy green and seemed to glow with a golden luster, there were many flowers blossoming this season, making the tranquil picture even more heavenly.

  “It is better if no one were to be born into this cruel world.”


  Saying this, the man with the silver hair was about to take a sip of his tea, but instead noticed the baby pink petal which had floated in through the window into his cup.
