Chapter 1456 - Heading Into The Motou Mountain Range

In the end, only Auretin would be left behind to wait for them.

Auretin was not a reckless person. He knew his own strength and so didn’t find it a shameful thing to be left behind alone while everyone else went forward.

It took a certain kind of maturity to understand the concept of only doing what you could and not be a burden to others during critical times.

As Elvis, Lea and Wabei were clearly unable to ascend the mountains, they went their separate ways.

Gregory carried Gu Mengmeng and flew directly to the peak of the Motou mountains, while Elvis, Lea and Wabei trekked forward into the snow.

They experienced the so-called “riding on a dead horse toward a mountain” effect: something was clearly right before you, but even after running at it all day, it appeared like you failed to make any headway at all. Add to that the fact that one’s speed would be severely restricted by the myriad of difficulties faced when trudging through the heavy snow.

Elvis and Lea couldn’t bear to let Gu Mengmeng follow them on foot and experience this suffering. So they naturally approved of Gregory’s suggestion to let him carry Gu Mengmeng straight up to the peak.

It didn’t matter even if Gu Mengmeng managed to get the Love of the Sky before they reach the Motou mountains. Anyway, Gregory had excellent eyes and would definitely be able to spot them on the return journey.

When she previously rode upon Gregory, Gu Mengmeng was still very worried about hindering Gregory’s chances of finding a bride.

But now that his status was already confirmed and it was clear that he would never get another female, Gu Mengmeng no longer hesitated. She just sprawled against Gregory’s back and instructed Elvis and Lea to take good care of Wabei, and not to let him die in the Motou mountains.

It was a rare occurrence that Wabei didn’t bristle at that. He just continued staring fixedly at that mountain.

Gregory had a massive physique and Gu Mengmeng would be well-covered by his outer feathers when riding upon his back. Meanwhile, she would be nestled in his soft down feathers and kept toasty by his body warmth—completely sheltered by the onslaught of the harsh winds.

It might just be her own mis-perception but it seemed to Gu Mengmeng that Gregory’s back felt much warmer and wider than the previous time when he carried her up the Motou mountains.

One’s feelings would naturally change accordingly to the shift in a person’s status.

But knowing that he was just a 10 year old “kid”, Gu Mengmeng still blushed from embarrassment.

Gu Mengmeng’s line of sight was restricted and she couldn’t see what was happening outside. But she could feel Gregory making a sudden shift in flight angle and was now soaring straight up into the sky.

Gu Mengmeng instinctively clutched at his feathers and called out in fright.

Gregory responded with bird cry of his own but Gu Mengmeng couldn’t understand what he was saying. Nevertheless, she felt a sense of calm descend over her. She guessed he must have said something along the lines of “Don’t be afraid, even if you fall, I will catch you”.

Gu Mengmeng chuckled. That’s right, the sky was Gregory’s domain. Nothing would happen to her even if she were to jump about.

Gradually calming down, Gu Mengmeng realized she had been clutching at Gregory a bit too forcefully, nearly tugging out his feathers by the root. Hence, she asked in a small voice, “Did it hurt? I didn’t mean to…… I was frightened just now……”

Gregory didn’t answer her. He probably realized that she couldn’t understand him anyway and so saved his breath and just concentrated on surging upwards.

Gu Mengmeng had always been rather immune to air turbulence. Even when the pilot announced that the flight was experiencing heavy turbulence, Gu Mengmeng would not feel much of anything. She would just feel like she was sitting in a car riding through a bumpy road. But this time, she could clearly feel the strong air flow pressing down on her like an unbreakable wall of pressure. Even with Gregory’s feathers protecting her, she felt like she was being submerged under the ocean and nearly drowning to death.
